Unfortunately, I had many bad experiences at this particular church. While in many Catholic Churches homophobia is latent, at St. Paul they are quite comfortable with blatant homophobia. They recently (January 2021) started a chapter of Courage International, a pray-the-gay-away type organization. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit legal group that specializes in civil rights, has referred to the Courage International as "one of the ten most prominent 'ex-gay' anti-LGBT organizations". Yikes.
For a week of programming aimed at the students in the parish, they invited a speaker that was there to give a talk on apologetics, which turned into an hour long rant about what he perceived to be the greatest evil facing the modern world: relativism. What resulted was a torrent of hate against LGBTQ folks, people who practice other religions, indigenous people, etc. After his talk, he allowed time for the Q and A, during which time the priests in attendance praised his ideas. I never felt at home or welcome in the church after that incident.
Overall, would not recommend. Hopefully deep reforms are made in this church to truly serve people at the margins. read more
