I was immediately impressed by the worship team and slide shows that went along with the service. The visiting preacher was funny and light hearted and preached directly from scripture. I think if you were theologically moderate or a little conservative this is probably a good fit for you. However, they have great children's ministries and a Hispanic service and tons of college outreach so there's definitely great ministries for everyone. There is complementary coffee upon entering and age-appropriate areas for little kiddos and older kiddos. I haven't heard the main pastor preach yet, so I will let you know later. We plan on coming back at least once a month. Overall, mainly, I will return for the fabulous worship music and to worship with family.

We figured we needed to get the car washed anyway, and this way we could support whatever local group was holding it.We had no idea who the Car Wash benefited at first, they offered us water as we waited for our turn. There were some very adorable little kids helping that were cute to watch. When they were done with our car a gentleman approached the window. As we were about to hand him $5, he handed us a dollar and a card thanking us for letting them serve us. It was a crazy experience that has still stuck with me. Instead of raising money for their church they were out there serving their community. It seems like a great group of individuals.

I got weird and bad vibes from this place and just an overall looming negative energy. Thankfuly that was the extent of my experience and I have only been there twice and had no desire to go back there again. The biggest thing you will notice that is different at High Rock Church compared to other churches, is the friendly feel. You cannot attend on a Sunday morning without making a friend. The people in this church are the friendliest. If you're interested in learning more about Jesus from friendly educated people, then you might try out this church. The church mostly focuses on helping people follow Jesus, training disciples and outreaching to Indiana University students. High Rock's vision is to be a diverse and intergenerational church and it is becoming more so. But currently it is comprised of mostly young adults and families with young children, with some of the elders a little older. There are also a lot of international students and people of all races, but it could use some more elderly wisdom and diversity of age. My wife also loves this church and feels that although she has considered herself a Christian and attended churches her whole life, she has grown tremendously in what it means to experience God and follow Him in the last ~3 years that we have attended High Rock.

However, as time went on, it became apparent that the senior pastor of the church cannot keep her personal political viewpoint out of her sermons. The pastor is very biased and partisan in her political beliefs.

The lead pastor Dr Rev Jack Skiles is talented, but doesn't take himself too seriously which I think is an underrated gift in ministry. The Congregation has a nice mix of age, culture, political opinions, & ethnicities. They bring Community involved to a whole new level because I see them setting high standards for radical Christian hospitality in many areas. Their choir and music is a bit old-fashioned but beautiful no less. Don't expect any projectors or praise music but the hymns and the talent in the choir are wonderful. If you are moderate or left of center, I highly recommend this church! Their strong civil rights history can be read online at their website. They have many members with American Baptist or you UCC identities. Peace be with you as you look for a great church!

ECC allows room for differences of opinions, and doesn't split hairs over issues that aren't fundamental to the Christian faith. It leans toward being an intellectual church, striving to gain a better understanding, while making a social impact on our community. Don't be scared off by the "Evangelical" word in the title; ECC does not fit the evangelical stereotype.

The music and the service are almost unmatched for their beauty. A large proportion -- probably a…read moremajority -- of the choir is affiliated with the Jacobs School of Music, so you will hear world-class, CD-quality music every single Sunday. Trinity has a REAL commitment to serving the poor, the homeless and the disadvantaged community of Bloomington. On the flip side: unfortunately, Trinity has cliques. Both my partner and I have observed Trinity can be a rather chilly church. He got tired of being ignored; and after I had played with Trinity's bell choir for eight months (and even composed music for them), and then left the group because I finally got a job in Indianapolis and could no longer attend rehearsals -- I received not so much as a peep back from members of the group in my farewell email to the choir. My partner and I are both Episcopalians, and we both like Episcopal worship: so we started saying Morning Prayer in our home on Sunday mornings as our worship and we invited our neighbors to join us.
