Some refer to it as the 'chuch at the pub' I heard. That's because Johnnie Fox's pub, known as 'the highest pub in Ireland' is just steps away up the hill. The setting is gorgeous for either a wedding or a burial. I've been to both events here - joyful and sad. There's a rich history that you can feel in the air here. On either a bright or blustery day, it will take your breath away. This is Ireland.

Only part of the original nave and chancel of this largest Gothic Church in Ireland survive. part of the ruined priory of Augustinian Canons, which was established to maintain the Cathedral, also survive. Sir Lucas Dillon's tomb is known locally as the tomb of the 'Jealous Man and Woman' since its two stone figures do not touch each other at all. Also, the sword of state separates the figures. The tomb is associated with a cure for warts. Rub a pin on your wart, place the pin between the couple on the tomb and, as the pin rusts and decays, your wart will disappear.

This is still an active cathedral with Eucharist services (masses) three times a week. it's a great way to see the Dublin city centre! On the aptly named Patrick's Street, the cathedral was founded in 1191 and is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland. Because it's off of Dame St, it's often much quieter than Christ Church- if you try to avoid crowds, it's the perfect place to get a taste of Dublin and Irish history. As much as the church was beautiful on the exterior interior is much grander and more extravagant. The interior was magnificent and definitely held true to the gothic style, There was a lot of marble, dark wood and gold the location of the cathedral is important in two ways. First, the cathedral was built on the same site of a church that was constructed by the King of Scotland. Secondly, the location was chosen because Saint Patrick himself had a well where he baptized early Catholics. If you visit the cathedral today, they have stone slabs on display which were believed to be the entrance to the well. Also, it happens to be the tallest church in Ireland, which is pretty impressive given that the country is full of them.

This church has the proper organ too with a proper balcony for a choir and it has a proper big long aisle too, it's really very proper! The one bit I like about churches is the stained glass windows and this church has lots and lots of them, all the way up the church on both sides. The church in Dundrum certainly stands out from all the churches around it because it's old; it's been around for centuries, literally! Every other church in the area is modern and is not like a proper Irish church is supposed to be. It's good that among all the development of Dundrum this one old (very old) building is surviving the upheaval.

Volunteers are always welcome. The carers and volunteers keep the church clean and well maintained. You can buy mass cards /sympathy cards there. They are blessed by the Priest. Only downside is that there will be beggars outside the main gates. Be careful not all of these beggars are genuine. I'd rather light a candle.
