Described in the parish newsletter as a 'green lung' in the city centre, the St Nicholas Rest Garden is indeed, a small, lung-shaped green space just behind Churchill Square, although I don't think that's quite what they were getting at. It is one of the green spaces that are attached to the St Nicholas Church, another being a children's play area, due to get a re-vamp at the end of April. The rest garden is very quiet; with only one entrance, people do not pass through. There are gravestones dotted around the garden, and lots of memorial benches (some of which have random, laminated bits of information about the person to whom they are dedicated). It's a nice place to come and sit quietly to read a book, but it is very small and so lacks the facilities of some of the larger parks in the Brighton and Hove area. read more
