Someone by name of Zahra called me in Feb 2021 for Mathematics (highschool) teacher during this…read moreCOVID environment. I applied knowing job posting said: $25/hour and 26.25 hours per week. She asked: - Are you currently teaching? - Can you teach high school math? (I have a Math degree and told her I can do it as I have tutored high school students for Math before) - Job will start Mon next week, training for 1.5 hour in weekend, are you ok? - The comp is $25/hour, are you ok? (which is what the job posting said). Then I asked how many hours to confirm? She responded that there are three periods to teach, and I can calculate how many hours per week that would be (she would not tell me the total hour count for some reason). So I calculated myself on the spot. I calculated and it came up to about 17.5hrs/week. I said to her that on the website it said closer to 27 hours. She could not answer this question. So I asked her what about salary for assessments, marking, preparing etc.? She said they don't pay for that and as for preparation they have a binder ready to be followed. So I asked how do you assess students then? She laughed and said I should know how to do that. I asked her she should tell me how her school is doing it during COVID, is it traditional marking or automated -- because both take time to setup and prepare? I have experience in both types of assessments. She said that binder (with lesson plans) will need to be tweaked just a bit. I understood that she is not answering my question of paying for the additional work (the last school I worked at paid me for 37.5 hours). And as I was about to tell her I am not interested, she herself said this conversation is confrontational and does not want to go ahead, and without waiting for a response from me, immediately hangs up the phone. I am not sure how is negotiating for wages and hours confrontational? I have my self-respect and I know my worth. Thanks to Allah. The market rate for high school mathematics tutors is well above $25/hour on a full-time basis--let alone part-time. The only reason I applied to this job at $25/hour salary is because I was available and my previous contract had ended. In a nutshell, beware of this school's job postings because their job postings could have false information on them. They tried to lure me to apply with higher number of hours on the job posting, but said much lower amount in the phone screen. If you want to work there, always confirm your contract details even if Zahra is speeding up the interview process. You want to make sure you get paid for your work.

This is a terrible school. Unprofessional, absurd, ridiculous. Last week I was "hired" for a…read morefull-time teaching position. After serving notice to my other employers, I showed up ready to start on the appointed day. The powers-that-be kept me waiting in their lobby without chairs for over 30 minutes. I was then escorted up to the VP/HR director's office and was informed they were still "ironing" things out. That evening, I got a call at home saying there was no work available. No explanations whatsoever. This, as I already mentioned, was AFTER I quit working at my other jobs. Nice eh? If they're pulling this kind of crap with the teachers, just imagine the students. Stay away. Seriously. And for anyone about to be hired by these unprofessional lunatics, make sure you get a contract in WRITING. (also: Zahra - the VP/HR person may seem nice, but most two-faced flakes usually do).
