An absolutely beautiful old Saxon church dating from the 14th century! On a much smaller scale…read morethan the other gigantic cathedrals I toured during my trip to the UK, but definitely worth the visit. Inside, I think the most amazing part is the original painting on the wall -- it's wonderful that this has been preserved through the centuries. There's a gorgeous organ as well, which I think was actually constructed in 1717. The highlight of my visit though was the "monk's cell" which is opened to visitors only once a year or so (we just happened to stop by during a special event at the church). It cost a pound to get in, but I ain't complaining! It's reached via an old stone spiral staircase, and once inside, you get to see a huge collection of old books. And when I say old, I mean like some are from the 14th-15th century!! The best part is that you are actually allowed to touch the books and open them up to view their contents. I got to page through a volume printed in 1492. There are old parish registries, tax accounting, Bibles, etc....and they even have an original page from I believe a 10th or 11th century illuminated text. I seriously had a nerdgasm in there! The guy who was telling us about the collection was pretty funny and incredibly knowledgeable. If you happen to be in Northanptonshire, you should definitely check this place out! I bet if you ask nicely, they'll even let you check out the monk's cell.

Whatever your degree of religious interest, the beauty hiding within Leeds Parish Church is something that needs to be experienced. The main section of the church is breathtakingly aesthetic. When I recently visited it, the sun was dramatically pouring through the beautiful stained glass windows, casting playfully colourful patterns on the stone floor. The intricately carved wooden seating and organ were perfectly framed in the gravitas of the room. Leading off from the main room, is The Lady Chapel. It is much smaller, creating a more intimate space. An elaborate altar sits at the head of the room, a lovely statue to focus on. The softness of the windows contrasts with the jagged edges of the furniture to spectacular effect. The website is updated regularly, providing information on times of services, performances by the choir and other music events. The ethereal beauty of the place evokes such peacefulness, you can't help but feel calm and collected. A wonderful place to contemplate, life, love, the universe, or just what to have for lunch.

Sadly a massive main road reaches nearly its edge and the way the city centre has developed, there isn't much else around it. If I was to redesign Leeds the city would shift sideways a bit so that this beautiful building was more a central feature. It beats the cathedral in terms of beauty and magnificence inside and out. I love the curling gothic details on each spire and the stain glass windows. It is definitely worth walking down this way just for the sake of checking it out sometime.

I grew up in a traditional church setting, and often churches struggle to relate to older children, teens and 20's, but this church has something for EVERY age, and it's teaching of the bible is amazing. I have a 14, 11 and 3 year old, and they love church. And no matter what problems or difficulties I face in my life this church and it's members are so supportive, and they really live what they believe. My life wouldn't be the same without my family being involved in this church. Whatever your taste in music, or church style, you will never find more welcoming and friendly church. I highly recommended to give Harvest City Church a visit and see for yourselves!

It is a church for people who care about people and this reflects in all they do. During the service you will experience good worship music with a bit of a Hillsong London feel to it and the message spoken by Pastor Chip or Elder Lee is always one of value that you can apply to you day to day life situation. After the service you are invited to join everyone for tea and coffee and to socialize with the people who attend. They also have a really good Christian bookshop with many titles by John Bevhare and Joyce Mayer. What ever day you chose to attend whether a Tuesday night live meeting or a Sunday morning, you will be spirally fed and feel at home. They also have lots of activities during the week like keep fit, football and the Young Profeshinals on at Saturday night, most recently I attended the new to church dinner and I can tell you these guys really pushed the boat out, this was real home cooked African food. I guarantee what ever you go to at Harvest City Church you will leave with a big smile on your face and a huger to return.
