I recently checked out Mass Bay as a possible place to apply for nursing school. I attended one of…read moretheir info sessions, and this review is based off that experience.
First of all, this campus is one of the tiniest campuses I've ever seen. Blink and you'll miss Mass Bay in its entirety. Perhaps I missed some buildings? but it appeared there was only one main building, which had four floors, plus a student parking lot outside of it.
The "main building" (in the event that there are others) is extremely confusing to navigate. While it's a cool example of 1960s brutalist architecture, it's not fitting at all for student use. If you're planning on visiting Mass Bay (or attending here), be sure to familiarize yourself with how to get to each one of the different floors. Believe me, it's more convoluted than you think.
Perhaps it was during off-peak, but it seemed like the place was completely empty. If you get lost, there's a welcome desk right inside the doors. Re-start your search there.
The staff that I encountered (for the nursing program), were literally the best and worst examples of professionalism. Dr. Collins was a wonderful, informative lecturer, who I could tell, would be an excellent professor, if she taught any classes. She was incredibly helpful and stayed to answer a whole slew of questions I had, even encouraging me *not* to apply to Mass Bay, because it wasn't the best school for me.
The other staff member we interacted with was Tony, who apparently, was in charge of admissions. During the entire info session, Tony sat slumped in a chair near the doorway, on his cell phone, completely oblivious to what was going on for over an hour and a half. The info packets he provided us did not contain any of Dr. Collins' power point slides (despite her requesting it), and any questions that were asked of him were met with blank stares and "we can talk about it later"s. He never actually got up to discuss any of these questions. If he is any indication of how Mass Bay runs their admissions, I'd be concerned for your application (and education at Mass Bay).
What I can recommend is that you set up a meeting with an adviser in your preferred major, go over your questions one-on-one, and be sure that you have a good understanding of whether or not Mass Bay is the right fit for you. On a side note, they also have a Wellesley campus, which looks much more like a traditional college.
