This place is outstanding, we were really thoroughly impressed by the size of the room and its chic decoration, the lovely view of the lake, the amazingly nice and pro staff, the high quality of the food & presentation at the restaurant (no need to wait ages to go to check Neven's cuisine out, this one is stunning :-D ). Actually there are 2 things that are worth a lengthier description : One is the dinner experience : if you wish so, you can sit at the lounge to enjoy pre dinner drinks and browse at the menu, and sat at the dinner table when ready. That's a lovely concept I found. Between lunch & dinner, I tried the thai chicken (yummy) the venison (amazing sauce and accompanying bits, just not my type of meat) and the seabass & scallops (outstanding, so light...) and I was told the beef & guinness was really good too. I would recommend side dishes with these. Dessert-wise : oh my goodness ! I tried the earl grey infused chocolate mouse and the Tatin tarte...out of this world. The 2nd highlight was...the quality of the bed. So soft we checked the name of the mattress and decided to go and get higher quality cotton sheets for home :-D We slept really well and woke up happy. Its a humble country house that kept surprising us. Patrick also gave us lots of tips about local walks, plenty of lovely spots at short driving distance. Do not expect to be able to walk anywhere near the house though : there's no path to the surrounding lake and the 100km/h road with no footpath aren't pedestrian-friendly. Still, 5min drive to Virginia and you have a wood- lake loop walk sorted. read more

My parents are locals at this homely country delight and I was finally introduced to the owner and staff with a wonderful welcome. A converted home with a view to kill, everything oozes Irish hospitality, attention to detail and a step above the rest... A simple yet adventurous menu, thoughtful presentation, focus on quality and local produce, and a select delicious wine menu. My starter of a chicken and liver pate was presented in a clip top jar garnished with a juicy prune, fig jam and sea salted toast. Very tasty although the bread was too salty and over powered the main star. Mum's soup of sweet potato and other root veggies served with croutons was a hit, and a further fresh 'blow torched' feta with beetroot was a mild and creamy version versus what I usually get in Brussels.. very delicate flavours that worked well. Our bottle of "Four Sisters" Australian red was very well appreciated to the extent I ordered a second. Just a shame that the second bottle was rather chilly so I moved the bottle into then sunlight that was beaming strongly through the bay window onto my back. A welcome warmth yet many had trouble opening their eyes due to inherent glare from my unusually strong December sun. Main courses included beef, leg of lamp, a fish I was unfamiliar with and a Parmesan and potato gnocchi that won my vote. The dish was heaven for a veggie with a range of root vegetables however I did go in search of my mini pasta parcels... It was an unusual way of making this traditional and basic pasta and, overall it worked well as the flavours among the richness of the parmesan ensured the dish provided enough substance for a meatless dish with all the flavour. My only reservation would be I would have put less cheese on the dish and more on the side for the customer to add themselves as it proved a little rich... The beef with mushroom sauce as ordered by mother was... melt in the mouth! Only one dessert was ordered from a truly mouth watering selection of homemade treats, a crumble that was just lovely. The family dogs that gave us body hugs and kisses as we took photos of the lakeside view and as we made our way to the car really made my day. Everyone should take the time to visit this wonderful place and ask to meet the owner! Bravo Helena & Patrick!! read more
