St. Kevin's is an amazing school! I am so glad we found it when we were applying to UPK. My son had a wonderful first school experience as a result and will be attending St. Kevin's through 8th grade, as will his little sister. My son loves going to school every day. The entire staff was so warm and welcoming from day one. The school building itself is beautiful, clean, and well-kept. The teachers and staff are caring, supportive, and skilled. The home-school communication is absolutely top notch. I always know my son's progress and am informed about all of the events that go on. It seems like there is always something fun going on at St. Kevin's, including the walk-a-thon, monster bash, trunk or treat, family movie nights, marching in the Christmas parade, and the Christmas Carol sing along...the list goes on and on! There are so many opportunities for families to be involved in the school community and for children to bond with their peers. There are also a variety of sports and other extracurricular activities for students to get involved in. Yes, academics are important and the school is very strong in that regard, but St. Kevin's recognizes that school is supposed to be an experience and that they are educating the whole child. The new principal is exceptional. She empowers teachers, families, and students and is truly interested in hearing everyone's voice and promotes a clear vision for the school. She really values feedback and is an intentional, focused, and dedicated leader. I didn't set out to write a novel with this review, but it is difficult to keep it succinct because St. Kevin's truly is a wonderful school with too many wonderful qualities to list. St. Kevin Catholic Academy is a safe, warm and nurturing school. My children are excited to go every day and have nurturing and dedicated teachers. As an educator, I appreciate the emphasis on rigorous, conceptual learning in math. My children in Kindergarten and 1st grade are building a foundation for success. It is wonderful that the students receive instruction in Spanish, music, art and spend time in the science lab to foster a well-rounded education. The principal, Mrs. Murphy, is responsive to parents and goes out of her way to ensure that everyone has a positive experience. I have personally seen the compassion she shows to children, and she always puts their needs first. Mrs. Murphy and the PTA address any concerns and questions they come their way no matter how minor or trivial they may seem. Please keep in mind that it is a Catholic School and therefore children are taught the Catholic faith. If you are looking for a school to send your child(ren) to where they can learn, make friends, participate in school activities, thrive, feel safe and connected. Then St. Kevins Catholic Academy is for you. The administration and teachers are nurturing, yet instill discipline and responsibility in the students. They offer an early morning program, after-school, and lunches at reasonable cost. They have a very active CYO program, after-school clubs, Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, and Parent Association. My kids love it there. We have a blue ribbon public school down the block but chose St. Kevin's after seeing the education my niece and nephew received from St. Kevin's. More importantly, the values they formed while there and still carry today are heartwarming. I see that same sense of values forming in my children now. Many parents are involved in the school, in a good way, volunteering and chairing for fundraisers. They have a new science lab which my kids are excited to use and each kid gets their own chromebook to use. The teachers I've interacted with are very friendly and keep you up to date on your kids using the classdojo app. The art, music and spanish classes are great as well. They also have an after-school program for when you can't pick up the kids on time or if you are a working parent. Early drop off is available as well. The staff genuinely gets to know all the students, making it a wonderful community for learners and families. I love their options for little ones, too. I am a St Kevin alumni, but a public school teacher, so at first it was a hard decision to make about where to send my older son to school, when he was approaching school age. My husband is also a catholic school alumni who believes in the values of catholic schooling as well as the friendships made through school and the extracurricular that the catholic youth guild provides. Together, we made the decision to send our first son to SKCA and it has been a great decision that I won't regret. Hence, his little brother followed right behind. Our older son is currently in 6th grade and started there in Pre-K. The middle school has been amazing. Very up to date on technology and excellent preparation for high school. My younger son is in 2nd grade and also having a wonderful experience since pre-k. The science lab at SKCA is expansive. The teachers have been very caring and excellent at enriching their academic education. The classrooms have technology such as Smartboards, chromebooks and IPads which excite my tech-savvy kids! The curriculum and programs match or are similar to the ones I teach in the public school system and some are even better, in my opinion. I appreciate that the school values the learning of a foreign language in the young years. The Academy has encouraged creativity in art as well as instilled good morals and values through the religion classes and church time. It is great to be able to celebrate Christmas with the students at all of the events, fundraisers, and the amazing Christmas Concert (and Spring concert), led by the talented music teacher. Every holiday, both religious and national, as well as multiculturalism is not only recognize, but celebrated in many ways and the children enjoy these celebrations. The Academy Parent Association (APA) is exceptional and focused on parent communication and student/family collaboration and fun! I highly recommend SKCA if you're looking for a fun, safe, loving, and enriching learning environment for your child. read more

My daughter attended this school from nursery school through 5th grade. Dr. Pirro, who is the principal there is very rude and unapproachable. We went to speak to him about our daughter being bullied and his response was and I quote "don't you think she brought that on herself, the other children have to see that she's different". The girls who were bullying her were telling her she was stupid and making fun of her curly hair. My daughter has a slight learning disability and is very artistic. My husband confronted him and told he was pompous and condescending and if he believed that any child deserved to be bullied than he wasn't fit to run a catholic school. A couple months later three young people broke into the school and shot the trophy case with a bibi gun. There was surveillance video of the three people. One was female one was very tall over 6 foot the other had dark hair and was very built. He accused my 22 year old son of doing it despite my son being 5'8" and 140 lbs with blond hair. He reported it to the police and my son was arrested. After the ADA looked at the video and saw my son he dismissed the charges because it clearly wasn't him. Not to mention my son was working three jobs at the time, for a law office, a restaurant and was a licensed real estate agent. The Bishop and Monsignor offered to testify on my sons behalf because he had also served as a sacristan for the church for 4 years and they knew this was not in his character. This was clearly Dr. Pirro I trying to get revenge on us because we stood up to him. My son now suffers panic attacks and even though he once was a devout Catholic and wanted to be a Deacon someday, now can't even step foot in the church because it gives him too much anxiety knowing that a place he once loved so much tried to send him to prison for 8 years for a crime he didn't commit. Even after the charges were dismissed we didn't even get as much as a simple apology. read more
