Staff is kind, compassionate and skilled. The ER is faster than the bigger hospital in Bangor. I wouldn't go anyplace else for my medical needs. Bangor is fortunate to have such a treasure. read more

Went to the ER for Blood Sugar in high 5 to 600s. Told by Dr. Michael Antoniello that it was not an emergency and discharged me with a small shot of insulin before ANY of my labs came back. Got home sugars are still 574. What a joke. read more

The Er was good, but had to stay a few nights, The mix of Doctors coming and going did not get their notes together. Very poor!!! Two nurses very good by the others , no idea how to treat a patient. One whole day no T clean bed! I has to ask for clean pillow cases! This is my first experience with any hospital in Maine. I do want to say that St. Joseph Hospital is very uncaring very unprofessional, the nurse ( male nurse ) Was the absolute most Uncaring person I have ever ran into ! Being a nurse , he is not a doctor he does not know what is wrong with me. And he told me straight to my face that I am not sick. I will never I repeat , never go back to Saint Joseph Hospital ever again. Amazingly enough the only person that was nice was the intake person for your insurance. Every other person here was rude mean and insulting and inconsiderate of your needs ! I don't care if I'm on my deathbed I do not ever want to come back to Saint Joseph Hospital again! read more

I came here from Inland Hospital ER. I was sent to ICU. I got the best care with some wonderful nurses like Cam & Vanessa to name a couple. Everyone who helped me was very good. This staff is very devoted to their jobs & my care was exceptional. I have never been to St Joseph's before but if I get sick again I would hope to come back here read more

Whenever it can be arranged, I have any treatment possible at St. St. Joe's. I've been a patient there, and had multiple surgeries. I've been treated with respect, caring, and a knowledgeable staff. I've never been ignored, only consistent good care with each visit. (And, I've been a patient many times...due to chronic conditions.) They've gone out of their way to make me comfortable, no matter what department that is treating me. I have as many doctors as possible, who are affiliated with this hospital. The concern and kindness standard. I have surgery, again, tomorrow at St. Joseph's. I have no doubt things will go exactly as planned, a great surgeon, and a great surgical staff. The ward, I'm sure will treat me as always, with topnotch care. read more

I've been a patient at St Joseph IM for 2 years now. The hospital supposedly does the billing for IM. There are 3 different billing areas, one being in MA as a satellite office. NO one knows what the other is doing. There is NO follow-up whatsoever. As far as any actual experience with the hospital, I'm so-so on that. I ask for a copy of my report (echo, etc) to be sent to me and don't get it even though I fill out a release the day of the test. Eventually I have to drive over and fill out another form just to get the report. I have stopped using the hospital for anything but am stuck with their awful billing dept still. Look elsewhere is my opinion. read more

Went here by ambulance recently and was treated in the ER. Staff was very efficient and attentive (which was 180 degrees different from EMMC's alleged 'ER'). However, the young female that drew my blood made a disgusting mess of my arm. After putting the needle in she said "the vein must have turned over"; instead of pulling it out and trying to locate the vein again, she used THE NEEDLE (!) to fish around inside my arm where it bends (the most sensitive part of an arm) for quite a while until she found a vein. The injection site ended up turning completely black, swelling up, and covering a 3" diameter circle on my arm - and it lasted for almost 2 weeks! I can't believe any hospital would allow a med tech so incompetent as this one to work in an ER. Other than that annoying and irritating incident, I could not find any fault with St. Joe's care but the ER doctor (an entity that was entirely absent in my 3 visits to EMMC's ER) lied to me about no hospital in Waterville or Augusta was able to do cardiac catheters - WRONG, as Maine General Health in both towns do exactly that and have full cardiac care departments! I would have given this experience a 4th star if not for the fact that St. Joseph Hospital has officially announced that it "will not participate in Maine's Death with Dignity Act" - which I find contemptible, not to mention that it blatantly violates our senior citizens' legal rights and options to make end-of-life decisions for ourselves. And now St. Joe's has announced that it intends to buy Bangor Nursing & Rehab - the biggest nursing home for our elderly in the region, thereby slamming the door on that option as well. EMMC is a waste of time and St. Joe's is too concerned with its narrow-minded religious beliefs, leaving the Bangor region without any decent healthcare and ER options. Time to get out of town, I guess... read more

Let me start of saying the CNA 's and RN's were great, but the doctors are a joke, my son went into the ER with Liver failure, he didn't eat, go the bathroom , and his urine was dark brown, he had 5 different doctors while there , they all have different opinions.. one said he was the sickest patient and may need a transplant..the very next day the new doctor never did blood work sent him home said his liver will fix itself?!?! His liver enzymes yeaterday were 672 and one over 2000 meaning over 2000 they can't read so they aren't sure where it is answered his liver is "offline " So tell me how can he be fine?!?! If you have any serious condition DO NOT GO THERE.. they don't even communicate.. last doc though he was ina alcohol withdrawal.. that was ruled out day 1.. pissed off Mom read more

I recently got a hip injection. While no one likes going to the hospital, I received such good care that next time I won't be as reluctant to sign up for a procedure at St. Joseph's Hospital. From the person who gave me directions at the Help Desk in the lobby, to the folks in Administration who helped me fill out paperwork - everyone was kind, patient and pleasant. Dr. Skacelova, the technologist who performed the injection, took care to make sure that I understood each step of the procedure and answered my questions with consideration. The real star of the day for me was Lucille. Her job was to do the preparation protocols, take my blood pressure, and ask me more questions. Here's what set her apart - during the actual procedure, she stood at my head and held my hands to reassure and comfort me. I've never experienced such kindness and care in a medical facility - anywhere - and I'm pretty old.
