I was born, baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic but I have become increasingly disappointed with the masses that have been held. I also attended Catholic high school and university. Unfortunately, all of these instiutions have been politicized. Pastor Bob, at Trinity Lutheran Church was the only person to respond to my emails. I visited the TLCBR and had the opportunity of meeting with both the Church staff and Pastor Bob. After our first meeting I have decided to become a parishioner at the Church. Then, as I started attending the mass, I could just feel the peace and radiance. As well as the faith filled homilies, that are easy to follow and full of great spiritual deepening words! I have grown so much in the last 3 years. However, my faith journey didn't really take off until 2025-2026, when I started attending mass on Saturdays and Sundays, then weekday masses and going to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel across the street once a week for a Holy Hour. I intend to keep this going and hope I can continue to grow in faith and holiness. Then, continue to lead others to do the same. There's a great community of friendship, love, non-judgemental, welcoming and the true Catholic faith! No sugar coating or wishy washy teaching. I love knowing and learning the full truth about my faith and how beautiful and miraculous it truly is! God Bless!

I have been a regular member of this church for 9 years…read more The Church of St Francis is a parish of The Liberal Catholic Church, Province of the USA. Bishop William Downey, Regionary, The Rt. Rev Graham Wale, Presiding Bishop. It is the ONLY TLCC Church in Illinois. Services: Holy Eucharist is every Sunday at !0:00 am. Approximately 1 hour, with fellowship and light refreshments served afterwards. Children are welcome to sit in the pews with their parents during mass, however there is a small informal Sunday School available. The service is a choral Eucharist in the style of the Tridentine form. Congregation: The congregation is small, about 20 people, but it is warm and like a small family. Anyone who approaches with reverence may receive communion. There is no restriction with regards to background or religious affiliation. Clergy: ALL CLERGY ARE VOLUNTEER, they are not paid by the church. This parish has two priests and a Deaconess, and 3 altar servers. Sacraments: The Liberal Catholic Church's has a valid Apostolic Succession and administers valid Catholic Sacraments. Worship: Members in TLCC are bound together in worship by the Liturgy which has been carefully written to be uplifting and of joyous aspiration. I highly recommend this church for persons of either Protestant or Catholic background who are looking for a place where they will be free to grow during their spiritual journey. for more info see: www.liberalcatholic.com or www.thelccusa.org

Several years ago I was looking for a new place to worship. I was raised Roman Catholic and…read morebelieve in the apostolic succession, however, I found myself struggling with the church embracing so many doctrines of man. This is not meant as an insult as I know everyone has their own experiences and perspectives, and I appreciate how faith and religious practice are very personal to each individual. I immediately appreciated the welcome I received when I attended for the first time. Much of the service reminded me of the services I attended in my childhood, which is different than the Roman Catholic services of today. I continued to attend and learned so much that was not taught in the years I attended Catholic school. When I heard the term 'liberal' I was a bit confused, but when I took the time to research the topic to educate myself I learned it has nothing to do with political affiliation. Judgement is for God to decide, not for us to condemn. Jesus died so that sins may be forgiven, and I found this church to truly embrace and practice this belief. I'm grateful I attended service and found myself a home.

But, the space is actually quite nice to play in. The church also has some nice outdoor patio areas that you can wander around for peace and quiet, as well as a coffee shop run by volunteers. For someone that usually abhors anything that could possibly fall into the categories of "newly constructed, "suburban," or "church," I really didn't mind coming out here. It's a pain to get here from the city though, dangerously close to 290 which, if you take it, will surely end miserably. At 10:30 at night, maybe. But any other time, seek an alternate route.

However, there is a parking lot on the south side of the church. As a regular at this church on Sundays, I've never had a hard time finding a place to park. In fact, often I am able to park very close to an entrance. What attracted me to Saint Odilo was the 9:30 A.M. Sunday Latin Mass. Of all the suburban churches offering the Latin Mass, I most enjoy attending here. They have it all -- bold, fervent preaching, reverence, and a talented choir, all at a reasonable hour-- not too early, not too late. When I walked into Saint Odilo for the first time, I must admit, it wasn't love at first sight. What first caught my eye was the brown, orange, and yellow stripes and what resembled gray duct tape on the sanctuary's back wall. I also noted lots of 70's wood paneling around the church, and tiny stained glass windows not depicting any religious scenes. The tabernacle, while in a place of due honor, reminded me of a steel bank vault. None of that matters though. My love for this church deepened each week and, when you love a place, you don't mind its oddities. The church does have genuine beauty and charm. They have a large painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the church, lots of votive candles, and statues throughout. The green sanctuary floor matches well with the marble Communion rail. In addition, the confessionals are built into the walls on both sides. They are visible but don't stand out awkwardly. Saint Odilo is a rare gem. I always look forward to attending the Latin Mass here. If you are a Catholic searching for a reverent Mass, fearless preaching, and a choir that truly sounds professional, look no further.
