I only knew this research facility when I lived in Santa Fe as SAR. I did contract archeological cartography for them for a couple of years. The cartography wasn't difficult, but getting each drawing and map approved was. They had a reputation for never approving the first work submitted. Always wanting everything perfect. Deadlines weren't the primary motivation, perfection was. There were always changes. But producing maps and drawings for some of the Grand Canyon Series of publications made me feel a real part of this prestigious institution and worth the trouble of working for perfectionists. This 100 year-old institution was initially established to study and research the archaeology and ethnology of the American Southwest. In the late 1960s the focus became more of a global one. The programs and activities of SAR today include research and study to advance archeology, anthropology and similar related disciplines. The School's many programs include a scholars-in-residence program, seminars and public lectures, and extensive Native American Indian Arts research programs. SAR has an annual Lecture Series and also provides field trips to noted archeological sites to its members. Membership is inexpensive and the benefits are enormous. 100 years of research is at your fingertips through their extensive library collections (the librarian was the librarian in the Laboratory of Anthropology for many years) and many research programs and publications. (Plus they always welcome volunteers.) Check out www.sarweb.org for complete information on this research institution that has been moving the anthropological study of the American Southwest and other areas of the world forward for over 100 years.

Founded in 1907, SAR is a residential center focused on the cultivation of innovative research in anthropology, broadly defined, as well as the work of Native American artists and writers. SAR offers residential fellowships to scholars and Native American artists through a competitive process. We host research seminars for scholars undertaking comparative, historically informed research that addresses critical issues of human social life. SAR's Indian Arts Research Center (IARC) stewards and makes available to scholars and artists one of the world's finest collections of Native American art from the Southwest. SAR Press publishes path-breaking books in anthropology, archaeology, Indigenous studies, and Native American art. The Catherine McElvain Library provides access to a significant collection of anthropological works and archival material related to Santa Fe history. Our membership program offers frequent lectures, field trips, and campus tours to the general public.

As a Research Scientist I support schools that are trying to make a difference in real health care…read morerather than the health scare of business tactics used in the current healthcare industry that just does not improve health but has led to the emergence of more disease and cancer than ever before. Schools like this will take a hit from those invested in lobbying for the old methods of healthcare that no longer work. When I created the world cure for malaria it was from a natural based herbal product. We can no longer ignore the validity of Natural Medicine and how it can improve lives and health. Those currently with life experience are boo hewed by some in the medical establishment and education boards, but I prefer life experience over ignorance any day. The native tribes of the world have great knowledge that works, we cannot stand alone and think we have all the answers in an age when pandemics are real. Immunizations are not the answer they seldom work at true prevention, are incubated in chicken eggs tainted with know viruses and result in disability and death. Healthcare is a controlled and regulated business by industries and governments sometimes involved in unethical practices such as sterilization, human experimentation, and population control. Trusting someone with your health is a precious responsibility, but it should never be limited and controlled in a world where we have the right to free access and choice as to who we trust our health with. Native,Traditional, Historical, and Alternative methods have a big place in the future of real health. An MD's experience seldom includes prevention, immune support, balancing, enhancement of natural function, or proper nutrition, diet, rest, and exercise, which are the building blocks of health itself. Please support the schools all over the world struggling to make a difference by returning to more viable methods of health care, or big business will either wipe them out or join them in order to control the practice of Natural Medicine. And MD's looking to make a difference will return to better practices of Medicine rather than the slash, burn, kill, over-medicate and five minute exam methods common today. Later while looking up yarn stores on Yelp I found the listing for Miriam's Well and saw the location was right where that sign was, so I called to ask about parking. Miriam answered and told me where to park (the first driveway past the sign while going clockwise on PdP, you have to go down the alley to the end then turn right and then you'll find her shop and a couple places to park in front of it. She has a great little yarn shop with supplies for weavers as well as knitters and crocheters. Miriam is a very nice lady with a great selection of yarns - standards like Berroco, Cascade, Plymouth, Noro as well as a lot of more hard-to-find and more local options as well. Some really gorgeous stuff! She has many sample garments prepared, I'm not sure if they were for sale but there were so many I suspect that some of them are. I myself came out of there with a skein of Great Adirondack sock yarn and a skein of Plymouth Yarns "Happy Feet". Prices were pretty standard compared to other similar shops, she did have a couple specials as well. I will be sure to visit every year when I'm in town!
