I've seen bigger towns with far fewer recreation facilities than St Ives. And it can't be because of tourists, because I don't think most people have treadmills on their vacation 'to do' list
The swimming pool is really good and there is a smaller pool for kids or mothers with babies. It can be a bit annoying though with all the classes they have in the pool, particularly if they are not on the schedule (as happened to me once). They have a gym with the usual machines and various different classes such as yoga and palates (no, I have no idea what it is, but I suspect something sinister). The gym café though is somewhat overpriced, so I'd avoid that personally.
