Nice place to have lunch in Milton if you're looking for something different. Clean, modern & food…read moreis good. Haven't dined there at night since the new owners. I can only assume on all the indicators that it would be a quality dining experience.

On…read morearrival we were told there had been a cancellation so we got a table...& then we saw two additional empty tables outside during our dinner & many more opened up within 15 mins. We chose the set menu for $48 for one of us: gnocchi with peas/prawns & pesto which was a great dish, perhaps only lacking a touch of seasoning which a pinch of salt would have fixed although trying to get a waitress' attention proved incredibly challenging. The mains were the Atlantic salmon with side salad & the steak. The salmon's skin was unfortunately burnt at least 1/2-3/4 of the way becoming charcoal black at the end with the flesh really dry & overcooked. I felt sorry for the kitchen as someone screwed up & that fish should never have left the kitchen looking so clearly burnt. To add insult to injury I pulled out a 1.5" bone as well. The side salad was unbalanced in flavour with something slightly off. My husbands steak was hands down the ultimate winner. Cooked to absolute perfection & seasoned beautifully. Requested medium someone in the kitchen knew exactly what they were doing & it was a perfect cut of meat. The accompanying mash & greens were tasty too. The chocolate mousse was a very generous portion & great to share. The sorbet & orange slivers were great to cut the richness.

The cafe is out in Woodstock, about 5 minutes drive from Milton. It's on farm so the site has a veggie garden, animals to see such as chickens and it's worth taking a look around the site. We like that the cafe has an environmental conscience, aiming to use what they can from the garden and limit wastage. The aesthetic of the cafe is lovely, and reminds us of a big farm house, with its long communal wooden tables, high roof and vintage decor. Reminds us somewhat of an old school house. We book ahead of time to ensure we get a table, which was a good idea, because it was quite busy. The cafe could have definitely sat more people but the two person chef kitchen probably wouldn't have been able to meet the demand. As you enter the cafe, you'll see that also sells a range of foodstuffs like jams, salts, coffee and books amongst other things. Once you're taken to your seat, you peruse the menu and order at the counter. The food options all sound interesting, though the menu is short - about 5 dishes per dining time (breakfast or lunch). There's also cakes listed at the counter, but would be good to show on a cake stand for ordering inspiration. This is our kind of food; healthy and wholesome so we are keen to eat. The food is quite expensive, however. For the Sprouting charred broccolini eggs with wilted greens, smoked paprika, herb sauce served on a bed of yoghurt with poached eggs and the GF bread option, it was $25. For the size it was significantly overpriced. We usually get a cafe meal and coffee for that total. I am normally a big fan of any kind of gluten free bread but this one was a little lacklustre in flavour. Unfortunately the meal wasn't cooked to preference (I asked for well done eggs, as being pregnant that's necessary, but they were still runny). The meal was nicely presented and healthy but if I had my time again, I'd probably order the dunken tofu. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros. The Milk Haus version was with black beans, roasted veggies, charred corn, avocado, coriander, sour cream and poached egg with flat bread. This was a nice dish and quite tasty, although they skimped on the corn. At $25.00, this price point was also high considering what you can get at most cafes for the same price. Drink wise, there's hot and cold drinks, including milkshakes and smoothies. The cafe also has a liquor licence, so if you're there at lunch, a wine, beer or cider may be on the cards. I order a nice lemon soda and Kurt has a coffee (I don't order coffee because there's only full cream milk, no skim). Coffee uses beans from all press. The lemon soda was nice and refreshing. A nice concept and the cafe was certainly popular. At the price point, we probably wouldn't be back but it was good to experience.
