Overall more positive than negative observations from me. Positive: Very welcoming, very diverse, community driven which means they're bringing people together. Plenty of groups, events, and outreach, all great things to see in a church. Yes, church is indeed a business, any church big or small has to manage finances. I appreciate seeing that "big church" is being used to reach people, help people, save people, connect people. In my handful of visits I've been to service with a total of 3 different pastors preaching. I don't know how often they do that but I think its great to see different pastors delivering messages especially when they have such different styles of preaching. Negative: I completely understand big church comes with big goals and big responsibilities, which inevitably means big financial needs and aspirations. They most certainly push everyone to give, more than any other church I've attended. I consider it a negative because of the emphasis during service and at times seemingly guilt tripping people into giving...but I understand the importance spiritually and even practically for the church. Slight Political punches have been made by the senior pastor on multiple occasions. It's quite disappointing because there's no political side that aligns with Christianity or Jesus up and down. And I'd argue there's no side that is closer than the other, each has exploits in their values/positions on controversial topics....The result of essentially picking one side over the other is cherry picking certain issues/view points and antagonizing the other side for where their positions may be questionable in regards to Christianity, while ignoring your sides questionable behaviors/positions that don't align with either Christianity as a whole or who Jesus calls us to be (or how to behave or treat others)....Its disappointing to see the one sided political jabs Overall I feel the church is serving Christ regardless of any of my negative observations or imperfections. People will always be so critical but there's alot of good things happening here.

There never was a split, in fact under the Methodist system, a split is not possible. St. John's, was a Swedish language church until after World War II and was built across the street from 1st Methodist to share facilities. We still maintain some Swedish traditions, most notably the Yul Ötta service at 6:00 AM on Christmas morning. I once declared that I would never attend that service, but it has become my favorite and I look forward to it every year. Another interesting historical feature of the sanctuary is the rear section which in the past could be closed off with sliding doors. This section was used as a Sunday school room and earned the name "sinners section" because on Sundays it was closed off during the service. The area has two door to the outside and those who had perhaps enjoyed Saturday night too much, or were looking for a church, could be anonymous. Significantly, the collection plate never came to the back. Today it holds the original handmade pews from the first sanctuary which was located where our cemetery is now. The members of Saint John's tend chose a smaller church, I call it a "Cheers,™" church, one where everyone knows your name, because there is an excellent alternative across the street. Still, with three services we are not actually a small church and have most of the services one would expect that a much larger congregation. I think you'll find a warm welcome and great Sunday School for children and adults on any given week.

This camp is designed for Kinder through 5th graders (who have just graduated 5th grade) and runs from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM each day. Children who participate in this camp play games, read scripture, and parents can purchase Chick-fil-A meals for $12.00 per day for kiddos. Each day, the children learn about various bible passages that align with the theme of the camp. Each summer, the camp theme changes, and this year, it was "Road Trip" (taking a trip to discover Christ). On the last day of camp, parents are invited to camp to hear 'the word' with their children, learn about what has been happening throughout the week, and have a meal with their campers. Aside from the faith-based center of the camp, as a parent, I appreciated the communication that was sent to parents daily via email and on paper as well as the security protocols put in place to drop off and pick up campers safely and effectively. As a bonus, professional photos of campers are taken daily doing various types of activities. Parents can view these photos on a private website and download photos of their camper(s). Thing Two liked this camp so much to the point that she asked to volunteer next year at this location. The cost of this day camp is $230.00 For parents with little ones (11 years and younger) looking for a faith-based local camp, this may be the place you have been looking for.
