The hotel itself is lovely; a boutique set-up with dark wood floors and lavish Indian-inspired decor. We checked in and dropped our things in the room, which for £100 (for bed & breakfast) was huge. Very nice indeed. The four-poster bed was crazy comfy, which surprised me as I don't usually like soft mattresses. The bathroom had one those water-fall style power showers, which was divine. It was obvious that the Manager of the hotel had spent a lot of time and care making our friends' day so special. The champagne reception in the garden was beautiful (aided by very good weather), the food was seriously good (always a risk at weddings) - and the subsequent evening went off without a hitch. I can thoroughly recommend this for a special occasion or a wedding, great for a party. Loads of space, sectioned off so you can hire out the entire venue or just rooms. Try it for a peaceful weekend away too, they do special rates on the website all the time.

The new owners have spent a significant amount of money renovating the place and it's really rather impressive. The downstairs bar/pub is a relaxing place for a drink, although you'd probably choose another of the village's pubs if you're just after a drink. But the food they serve is fantastic. Even better if it's a nice day and you can sit out in the hidden, but huge, garden at the back. The garden has plenty of tables and chairs and even some ornate shelters with cushions and benches. I'll be back in September to spend the night after a wedding so I can better appraise the rooms then. But I'm told they're very, very good.

The inn has had a makeover and would not look out of place on the pages of an interiors magazine. The large garden out the back is one of its main features with views across rolling fields. Blankets are provided on those slightly chilly British Summer evenings. One of Asthall's main attractions is a sculpture park set up in Asthall Manor every other year. The 2018 edition of 'on form' will be open from 10 June to 8 July - an absolute highlight of contemporary stone sculpture in the beautiful settings of a traditional house and garden, and just a short walk from the Maytime. Asthall doesn't have a train station but taxis are available from nearby Charlbury.

For European and U.K. Travelers where less is good enough, the size of the rooms won't matter. For US travelers who are used to more, two of these rooms could fit in the typical too small hotel/motel room. For a weekend there would be no problem but for travelers with suitcases on extended stays in the U.K., it's just a little too small to be comfortable. We had to pack up our suitcases to get the bed made which doesn't make traveling relaxing That being said, the Maytime Inn is quite a wonderful place to enjoy. I'm extremely critical about things like ample plugs for electronics, bathroom counter space, workspace for laptops, shower head height, plush towels, a great shower, high toilets, etc to name a few things that make a stay comfortable to me. The location, people, gardens and cleanliness make the Maytime Inn a great value for the money and a place I would not hesitate to stay again.

The food is great, and a fine selection of beers. I was in room 2, overlooking the beautiful garden that I sat in the evening before, in the summer sunshine. If I had any gripe about this place, it's the pale blue decor in the bar/dining area. It would do it more justice if it was in an old oak wood style - with real fires etc. Overall? I spent four nights here with my fiancé at the end of summer and an important point to make early…read moreon is that Hawkwell House isn't really in Oxford. It's actually in a suburb, a village called Iffley. Nice, quiet and easy enough to access Oxford from as there are frequent buses shuttling to and from the city of Oxford and a couple of walking options. One can stroll along the river Thames or take the more direct route, such as the buses do, this takes about 25 minutes or so. Or you could drive. Therefore, if you want to stay in town for convenience sake then this hotel may not be for you, otherwise, Hawkwell House Hotel is a perfectly lovely place to stay. As for the hotel, it's in very peaceful surroundings with plenty of private garden space within it's grounds - a lovely looking wedding was taking place outside in the sun as we were checking out. And on that, from check in to check out all of the staff were entirely pleasant, attentive, friendly and helpful - with a special mention for the reception staff, they were great for us during our stay. The only blemish on their record were the bar staff. It's not that they weren't all of the superlatives above but more that the service was a little slow. From service to preparing our drinks the process took longer than it probably should have. The only other aspect that I felt wasn't quite up to scratch was the restaurant. This, however, was only true of the one evening we ate in there though, all of our breakfasts - every morning - were great. Again the staff were very accommodating and there were no delays in the service, it's just that the food wasn't particularly good. Not bad, just ordinary. I believe our room was a standard double and was very nice - no complaints to be found here. Numerous services are also available and I felt that the reception staff were always willing to make everything as convenient as possible for us. One such service we made use of was the spa treatments, there's no spa on site but they'll arrange for a therapist (of desired description) to come to your room and carry out their service there - in our case, a masseuse. All in all I would stay here again and, as I am doing to you, would be happy to recommend Hawkwell House to others. TTFN, Ian

The Falaise House literally refreshed my opinion of life…read more Arriving in the sparkling Henley On Thames, my girl and I easily located Falaise after getting dumped off at the Henley railway station. We didn't even realize it while booking, but the location is tremendous. It is at the peak of town, so all we had to do was roll out of bed and we were right into the heart of the place. Upon first arrival, we were greeted by "Jane" who was so friendly that I had forgotten humans could be that nice. My girlfriend and I looked at each other in shock after our interaction with her, it was so pleasant. She wrote down restaurants we should check out in town for lunch and even wrote down the prices which she had memorized. She even volunteered to print tickets to a show we were going to for us!! Our room was such a fresh, lush haven of clean, white tones. The pillows soaked our heads in glory and the whole vibe was so fantastic. There was a curious amount of horse imagery in the room, but hey you only live once. May as well horse around. Yak yak yak. Anyways the shower was great and the soap/shampoo/moisturizer supplied smelled amazing. The room was also supplied with hot chocolate, cookies, and tea for our enjoyment. At first I didn't understand the wifi situation which concerned us, but after flipping through the book in the bedside table, we found the code for it and it was super fast! That book also has menus and local information, use it! Only two little complaints. Something was clearly wrong with our toilet and after flushing it, it would run for a LONG time, sometimes up to an hour or more. We didn't care so much, but it was a bother at night. Also, the heat was on at night after a fairly warm day. The room subsequently got very hot and I wasn't very comfortable at that point. Everything else was so amazing about Falaise House that I don't care about that anymore. Our street-side windows were great to crack open, sit on the ledge, and look at the town from above. At night it was cool to look at the ghost town of Henley. In the morning, we actually did not utilize the complementary breakfast as it ran from 7-9:30 AM which was quite early for us after a long night. Let Falaise House hold you tenderly as you visit Henley, you will not regret it!

We were greeted by Jane, one of the owners, who was such a friendly human that I thought I was in some sort of alternate reality. She knew my boyfriend's name upon arrival and greeted us at the door. She was eager to recommend places for us to eat, which ended up being very delicious. The Falaise House is an actual house - a very classy, simplistically decorated home. The rooms are rented out to customers. Our room was beautiful. A big bed, a TV on the wall, a vanity, a dresser, nightstand, and spacious bathroom. The bed was deliciously comfortable with a soft down comfortable and wildly soft pillows. The room was warm (too warm at some points), but the windows were easily opened for some fresh air. In our room there was a large binder of menus of the best places to eat in the area, along with a wifi password, which was a definite perk. Breakfast is complimentary in the morning. What an amazing, amazing place.
