I cant tell you how many times ive had the unfortunate luck to be admitted to St E (Florence and Edgewood) 3 years ago I went in to the ER with an extremely swollen belly, they checked my medical history and I had no previous health conditions. No labs, no imaging they just sent me home with laxatives telling me it was just constipation (even though I was having no issues going) I went in a month later still swollen and in pain, again "just constipation" 3 weeks later I came in vomitting blood, they finally did actual medical work and I had a hgb of 4.3, ended up in ICU. 15lbs of fluid drained from my stomach, 7 blood transfusions, 17 bleeding varices banded in my esophagus. Turns out that constipation was end stage cirrhosis caused by autoimmune diseases. I almost died. Ive been admitted here several times since and everytime is a nightmare (im not going by choice, its just distance) I ended up with Steven's Johnson syndrome painful blisters all over my body and I asked for pain relief (one time and calmly) the dr came in and said "your pain isn't my problem" I was waiting to be transferred to icu. Another visit for a GI bleed and uncontrollably vomitting and intense pain. I again asked politely and one time for pain relief. The dr opened my door, stood in the door way and YELLED at me "im not giving you narcotics!!!" Accused me of drug seeking even though he seemed to be the one out on control and unhinged. Another visit a nurse yelled at me and slammed her hand on the desk bc I asked for promethazine instead of zofran bc the zofran wasn't working. It was ordered for me, she just didnt want to have to dilute it. I was never a drinker and ive never done drugs. Im merely trying to survive this horrible disease while waiting on a transplant. The drs and nurses here are incompetent, violent and reckless. They dont care. If you are a health care worker you should be aware of the fact that you are caring for patients who are going through the scariest times of their lives. I now have medical ptsd. As long as I am stable enough to go further I will never, never willingly go to any st. Elizabeth hospital again. Do not send your loved ones here, I cant say Cincinnati is tons better but it sure beats St. Hellizabeth. read more

My fiancé was rushed to the ER tonight by ambulance due to a work place accident. Miranda Eha, nurse, and Cristi Riga, CT radiologist, we're absolutely amazing and provided the best quality support . They were incredibly skilled professionals and I am so glad we were able to receive quality, 5 STAR care from them. Despite the 5 star care from Miranda and Cristi, I am only able to provide two stars because I was not impressed with the physician or the paramedic team. I am knocking off one star for the physician. The physician was not even close to hands on and hardly provided support. He was not knowledgeable in migraines or muscle spasms and did not prescribe any medications that would benefit my fiancé based on his medical history. I am knocking another two stars off for the paramedic team and the lack of concern for patient care held by hospital administrators. The paramedic team was slow AF and took forever to get him to the ER (I beat them there and had a significant wait until they arrived - I waited over ten minutes and met them outside the ER to walk in with him). The hospital administration also refuses to standardize their equipment with paramedic teams. For my fiancé, the IV line put in by paramedics was incompatible with what the hospital administration purchases, which prolonged patient care. read more

I came into st. Elizabeth Edgewood via ambulance for a possible heart attack. Via testing it was decided it likely wasn't (but they aren't sure) about the condition of my heart. They were unable to diagnose any problem. They did however accuse my 5ft 130 lb wife of being violent for inquiring about why my medications I take were being administered incorrectly causing me incredible pain. End result, since my wife who speaks me if I'm unable to speak for myself was bared from the hospital. Without her there for to speak for me if I was unable I requested to be discharged because well no one could speak for me if I was unable. To top this all off my wife now has COVID picked up of course and St.Elizabeth Edgewood hospital. I have unfortunately been hospitalized twice this year both times at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. Unfortunately both times no real solution to my medical problems were resolved. My health is much worse now than it was before I began care at St. Elizabeth healthcare and now we have COVID. read more

I always came here to do my blood work and thyroid ultrasound. Every time the process is efficient, and you will never waiting for too long. The staff is friendly and attentive. I always worry about the nurse here in US may have less practice in the blood withdraw process, but so far is okay, except two incidents. i encounter some intern or inexperienced nurse, they tried hard and put the needle in, but just no blood can be drew out. One of them immediately seek for others help and said sorry to me so many times, but one other nurse just keep trying until i felt hurt, and speak out, eventually she walk out and talk to someone else, never came in again. I understand she might felt embarrassed but i felt maybe she could learn by watching others do it? I don't know. Overall I'm happy with the place. read more

This hospital refuses to honor their own Patient Rights. They have refused to send me an invoice with line-by-line charges, even though their Patient Rights document says patients are entitled to it. I have contacted them multiple times and just received a letter threatening 1) to send my bill to a collection agency, and 2) civil action. I have spoken to a third-party patient advocacy group, and they have agreed I have a right to this information. I have also referred this issue to the Inspector General. Because I've been incorrectly billed in the past, I want to see the specific charges to make sure I am not being billed for something that wasn't done. Took my husband to the ER last night because he was having chest pain the woman at triage quoted us 4 hours and called for an EKG, she then told us that after the EKG we need to go wait in our car and that they would call us when they are ready for us ( we are NOT Covid positive ) after the EKG we sat outside for hours, my husband did start to feel better so I took him home to feed him, thankfully we live close so I could bring him back quickly when they called. They never called us back. I am shocked that the hospital forgot we were waiting outside, honestly it's poor communication and a dangerous game they are playing, picking and choosing who is shipped out to the parking lot to wait. We truly need other hospital options in the northern Kentucky area. This location was very upsetting and we will be going to the Edgewood location from now on read more

Wow, hospitals have changed alot since last time I've been to them. Everyone is so courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful here. I really like how they let me be by my fiancés side - from the moment we walked into ER - well, except for the sanitary procedures - which is good because I would faint anyway - they let me be right by him. This has really helped me and him. I also have to mention their "Culinary Creations" because it feels and tastes alot like room service at a hotel. You order from a menu, they tell you the time it will arrive, and it is DELICIOUS. I don't remember liking hospital food in the past. This place sure will leave a good impression with me. The mashed potatoes are real potatoes, the pot roast is so tender, and well everything has been very good. They also all keep computers with them and enter info immediately so everyone is always updated. Seems like in the past their was a lack of communication. So this is good. We still have major surgery in a few days - but for now all is good and they have made such a good impression I want to go on and review them. read more

Called to get some prednisone because I felt a cold coming on. Previously, couple of months ago, I had no problem. Sent a message on My Chart and was meet with the answer, make an appointment. I told them I wasn't asking for a narcotic medication, just something to help this go away. Same answer make an appointment. Called the Florence office and explained my situation. Got a call and the same response, make an appointment. Even after explaining I was working and filling in for a fellow worker who was undergoing radiation, same response, make an appointment. I don't know what happened that thr new rules supersedes patient care but I'm thoroughly upset. read more

I was hospitalized for uncontrollable vomiting, couldn't hold down water, severely dehydrated etc. anyway, while I was dazed and anxious they put me on many iv fluids, one line had managed to get a lot of oxygen and the machine started sounding off because it was way too much oxygen about to go directly into my bloodstream. I called for help and no one came for about 20 minutes. When someone did finally show up it was a male nurse, after I explained to him what was going on and asked him to fix it he reply's with "no that's above my pay grade. I'll find a different nurse for you." It's above your pay grade to simply do your job and take out the IV for a few seconds? He also never got another nurse or doctor for me. I waited 30 more minutes and hit the call button several times. read more

Service was good but we got completely ripped off with bills after delivery. They claimed charges for a lot of services they didn't even provide at the hospital. They broke down delivery charges to both mom and baby so we have to meet both deductibles and don't reach max out of pocket for the mom. Billing was too shady, they don't even send you itemized bill. I wouldn't recommend, unless, you have 100% coverage. read more

It was quick & efficient care. I saw a Nurse Practitioner named Becky Tacey who was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Sometimes I feel DRs aren't listening to me or even looking down at me. I had surgery a few days ago at St. E's in Edgewood. That hospital wasn't my choice, it was the surgeon's, based on a specific medication I needed. I suffer from PTSD from a previous botched surgery that put me into septic shock and a coma. So, my fear of going into a surgery of any kind terrifies me and the only way to get through it is to be asleep before I go into the OR. Which is again, why I was sent to Edgewood instead of the original facility. In pre-op, everyone was in agreement that I would be asleep before I went into the OR. However, the nurse anesthetist decided, on her own, that me being asleep wouldn't be possible. She was rude and sarcastic and condescending to me, as if my opinion didn't count, despite the fact that I'm a nurse and have been for a very long time. The staff ended up kicking my mother out of the pre-op room, then started taking my stretcher to the OR even though I said no, and I was crying hysterically with a panic attack. They DID NOT CARE and just kept right on taking me. I will NEVER use that facility again and will strongly encourage others not to use it, either, especially if they want a say in what happens to them. A. Turck read more

As I may have zero experience being a patient at a hospital, I can say that I no longer have a fear of being admitted into one.. I truly didn't know what to expect when they said that they were admitting me, a little part of me wanted to just walk out And probably would have if my issue wasn't quite so severe. It even feels odd for me to say this but every employee that treated me or that I encountered was absolutely great! Hey, they pulled off the impossible and made me feel comfortable around the clock so if any of them are reading this then I want to personally thank you for your friendly and quality service. Timeliness and bedside manner were great as well..I couldn't even make up a complaint! Thanks again for everything and I hope not to see you again in that situation . Specifically the Sleep Center and Dr. Wilmot. He prescribed a BPAP sleep appliance in 2013. In August 2020 I asked if he would write a letter saying I did not need the BPAP. I called the office and they said I had to speak with the doctor. He did not reply to either phone or St E MyChart. The only path to answer was a consult appt with doctor. Somehow when I went to the appointment it was a new patient appt. When I said this was not what I wanted, the doctor did not listen. I told him all I wanted was an answer to my previously asked question. He then said," Oh- I never write those letters." Why did he make me come in for a appointment when he could have easily answered my question by phone or e-mail? I did not get what I requested and I felt disrespected by the way I was treated. Then sent a bill for $202. I am protesting the bill and he still won't reply. read more

I took my daughter to the ER may 29th for severe pain. After she was taken back she spent 4 hours in extreme pain. What they gave her didn't help and they ran no tests. After the 4 hours they finally gave her something for pain and kicked us out before it had time to work. When we asked what we should do if this happened again we were told "we can't hand out narcotics like they're candy" we are never going back. read more

Would not recommend this hospital to an enemy, their moto is "I'm right here" but we barely seen a doctor or a nurse our entire visit. We spent 95% of our visit waiting, I get they were busy at first but once we were already checked in and in a room they started to bring patients to beds to fill the hallway, but instead of clearing those who had arrived first, they cleared the hallway first. They did not keep us updated, they did not check on us, took them 20 minutes just to take her to the restroom waited well over an hour and a half to be checked out after we had called the nurse more than once and requested to be discharged. They are completely unorganized. Will never come back here. read more

I recently had MAJOR surgery by Dr. Eldrich followed by a 7 day stay at the Edgewood campus. My Dr., My anesthesiologist, the nursing staff, housekeeping...Even the guy that came in to empty my sharps container were amazing! They are so sweet and caring and are superb at thier jobs. God bless them! I must say however that they do their jobs not assisted by the hospital or its administration but in spite of it! This is my 24th surgery so I know a good hospital stay versus a truly bad one, this was the worst. This hospital is old, dreary and dingy, nothing works and everything my nursing staff would order for me were "out", no supplies, no back ups, nothing. The computers that the ridiculously over worked nursing staff have to wheel around with them stop working regularly, as in, not one single shift in 7 days without an episode. When you walk down the halls, as they make you do after surgery, you see all the broken computer units lining the walls with notes on them explaining the current malfunction. Anyone who has had to recuperate in a hospital knows that the most irritating thing in the room is the bedside phone, it can never be reached, everyone that comes in the room moves it even farther away. Every attempt to reach the frickin thing results in pain and entanglement in your bed clothes, resulting in more pain. Cell phones would finally bring an end to having to worry about the damn thing...Oh no! Wait!! St. E has decided that in order to call your nurse you must get ahold of the damn phone and then call her number which is written on a white board in your room each shift. There is a call button on the TV remote which is always laying right there on your chest because the TV speakers are in it, right there, nice and handy, but when I used it because I couldn't reach the phone the call was answered by an extremely rude individual that made sure you knew that wasn't the way to do it. Oh, the handsets the nurses and nursing assistants carry work about as well as the computers. The food...The most disgusting thing I've ever been presented. I was taken off clear liquid day 2 but I never had more than a single bite of food per meal for the rest of the week, I could not even force myself to swallow it was so disgusting. Oh and in order to order this inedible squalor...You have to use the phone! Yea!!! Now, I've made it clear that the hospital needs SO MUCH ATTENTION but do you know what they have spent their money on? Some sort of "Hospitality" system which is on your TV. The over worked staff have to go into each room at the top of each shift and pull up the system on the patience TV, sleeping, watching something...Doesn't matter, if they don't verify their name on your list of care providers they get in trouble. So when you finally get settled, find a way to lay that does not cause pain and your watching your favorite show a message pops up and wants to know how they are doing. Are you being cared for? Blah blah. You request pain meds and an hour later your TV is hijacked and they want to know your pain level...This shit goes on 24/7. This isn't a crawler at the bottom of the screen either, it takes up the whole screen so just about the time your going to find out who killed JR here comes another message from big brother. Think tell a marketer that you cannot escape, nor can you hang up on! Ridiculous! I hate this hospital...It sucks! Some jack ass has decided that the bullshit customer care is way more important than the patient comfort and well being, My background is in fine dining and the level of care is much higher there than at St E's. It's all corporate bullshit and lip service. Starts when you walk into registration, there is someone there to escort you to the cubicle, there is all the "thank you for choosing St Es" etc. But when they sit you down and go off script and start to get your info they are rude, dismissive and totally uncaring. Instead of hiring truly caring employees they have opted to just script every little move. Hospital gets negative 10 stars, floor staff positive 13. read more

Seems strange to write a review of a hospital, I guess because if you're like me, you try to avoid the hospital if you can. But, I had such a good experience with the nurses in Labor & Delivery and the Women's Surgery unit (not sure what that area is called, but where I recovered from my c-section), that I felt like I should write a review, especially because most women put a lot of thought into where they deliver. I mostly went to St. E because it was close, and I'm glad I did. All of those nurses were nice and encouraging and answered all of my questions. I felt a little defeated after a few medical complications and they did a lot to encourage me. Erin, Kathy, Leah and one more whose name I can't remember helped me a lot in Labor & Delivery, and Kaitlyn, Melanie, Debbie and a few others helped me with recovery. The lactation consultants were great, too, I can't remember everyone's names but Robin spent a lot of time with us and really educated us. Hopefully their bosses see this and give them props. My midwife, Lisa Downton, was affiliated with St. Elizabeth as well, and she was great and gave me great advice. I wasn't planning on using an OB but when a c-section became the option, Dr. Berry, got things done quickly and expertly, as is to be expected. Also, I think some women may read this and go straight to "oh no, interventions..." but, I felt that I had genuine medical issues that made those interventions necessary. If you're from the area, I think there can be some suspicion of St. E, just because they are so big. But, I can tell you that the people who I had direct contact with when delivering my baby were great. Everybody there seemed to be working towards the goal of a healthy baby & mommy. A few side notes - the food was pretty good, all things considered. My family did complain that the waiting room was too cold, like a frigid 40 degrees or something. They had to go find a different waiting room. But, my personal experience with the nurses puts it at 5 stars still. read more

The treatment my son has had received here has been the best in the area. The staff was friendly and respectful. The site was clean and professional. I recommend this for any care you need. The team here is great. They have not treated us like a number and I thank them for that. This place is better than a urgent care center as they have at there disposal a major hospital unlike other local urgent care places. This place is open till 930 pm. They will not turn you away at 930pm. The staff from the people who you first talk to the people that first treat you to the doctors. Everyone is very good. read more

My mother was ill took her to hospital they thought since she was 89 we should not care. She was there 3 days had an episode one nightand did not know where she was went spent the night with her and she was fine my nephew was there to visit when I went home to clean up and she was fine in the day. I get a call from my nephew that a doctor was there going to release her put doctor on phone I told him I was worried she was having mini strokes. He said she would do better at home with sundowners I told him she had not been diagnosed with that ask him if he was diagnosing her with it he did not answer and said he was releasing her was I going to pick her up I said I guess I was so I did. Nurses didn't even understand. That night she had a stroke. When she got back to hospital they just wanted me to do everything to let het her die. Turn off her defibrillator with hold fluids. And she could her and understand everything said just talk in front of her. Couldn't understand why I wanted them to take care of my mother. Not enough insurance I guess. read more

I had my routine blood work drawn the day before my Doctors visit. When going over the results with my Doctor it did not look like my blood work at all. So many things were off but the biggest was the liver function was very high and the kidneys were iat kidney failure numbers. If my doctor had not been following me so closely I could have paid to go to a specialist that I did not need, I could have been put on meds I did not need, paid for test I did not need etc. i had my blood drawn again in less than 24 hours and the results were normal. I will never trust this hospital again. On top of that my daughter was resently in the hospital and they were horriable! read more

ER...Dr Eric Richardson is awesome. He puts you at easy, is very thorough & takes good care of you: too bad he's not primary care, I would be his first customer. Connie the nurse took 39 minutes to come in because she said "my nurse was at lunch so it'd take a while" although they thought I broke my neck, but Dr. Richardson was in immediately. He took great care of me for a bad situation. I'd give 5 stars but you have to have a decent nurse experience for that. Dr. Richardson deserved 10. read more

Usually I'm writing reviews of restaurants and such, but I felt compelled to write a review for this hospital because of 2 wonderful experiences I had there in less than a year. I was hospitalized twice this year, once going through the ER for kidney stones while pregnant and again as a scheduled induction to give birth to my son. I have no idea why I've heard this hospital get a bad rep from other people. It always surprises me and I feel compelled to share with them my opinions, because I wouldn't choose any other hospital after being there twice in such a short time. The nurses in Labor & Delivery are WONDERFUL. Every single one of them that worked with me was so so friendly and truly accommodating to my needs. Anesthesiology, Phlebotomy, and everyone else in between also went out of their way for me and was so nice. I didn't have a single bad interaction with a staff member here either time I was there. The facilities in L&D are very nice and the food isn't even half bad either (quesadilla was really good!) If you have to be hospitalized, obviously that's the last thing you would choose to do, but know that you would be in good hands at St. E. If you are considering where to give birth, you won't regret doing it here! read more

I reseaved an ultrasound this week at St. Elizabeth Edgewood, Kentucky... the student Onastasia (that is the correct spelling of her name) and the technician, Libby where the most wonderful young ladies... They were very thorough and very personable... They made me feel 100% comfortable in, some would consider, an uncomfortable situation... they made me feel very relaxed and spoke with me about there lives per my request... They were just precious young ladies... And most importantly, are very excellent at their jobs... Kudos to Saint Elizabeth for hiring and teaching these ladies... read more

I'm reviewing this hospital so possibly they might make some changes. First let's talk about cleanliness or lack of: I was hospitalized for 10 days following a gall bladder procedure, during which time my room was cleaned (upon my visitors request) once. And not very well. My bed sheets changed twice, once upon request as they spilled blood from a drain in my side which was from a staff infection. A very sever infection. No one changed this until I asked for it to be changed. The cup used for draining my side was left in my bathroom until very ugly green stuff was growing in it, I also had to ask for this to be removed. When the drain was removed, the technician spilled some on the floor and wiped it up with a tissue. No wonder I ended up with an infection. The nursing staff was very good, but seemed overworked. They follow doctors orders and after administering an antibiotic and a water pill my heart stopped , thank god, I have a defibulator installed with my pacemaker, The next night they came again with the same medicines which I questioned they said they did not think it would happen again. I said ok and it happened again. This is very scary stuff. I asked for my heart doctor but, was told it wasn't protocol . On the third day they came with the same medicine and I refused to take it and asked for the patient advocate or my heart Dr. who came at 8:30 pm and looked at my chart and found I was being given medicines that cause long QT(which stops your heart) especially me as I have long QT syndrome from a genetic source. Needless to say this was a stay at Hospital Horror. My trust is completely destroyed and the thought of having to go back is so frightening I would possibly have an anxiety attack if I have to go again. This place is a joke. My father was admitted for worsening CHF issues and they did nothing for him for 3 days. I am not sure where to begin. All of his medications were read off to him every shift change and even though he told them the shift prior what the correct medications were and they "took out the ones he has never taken before" , some how they were back in the system each time. One doctor orders two days of IV Lasix, and apparently another doctor, Jeffery Yates, goes is and immediately discontinues the order, with no explanation. No one can tell him anything because there is nothing communicated to one another. So, the doctor who ordered the Lasix finally sees him again and asks how he was feeling after two days of IV Lasix. My father replies he never received it and that doctor immediately checks the system and is visibly upset that "Dr." Yates (I use the term loosely because he was an arrogant jerk, no bedside manner whatsoever) canceled the order for Lasix. At one point, Yates refers to the mucus my father is hacking up as "post nasal drip". I am just appalled at the care from the doctors there. The nurses on the other hand, were wonderful and the cleanliness was good. Dr. Rhonda Pfaff was a joke too. Wakes my father up in the middle of the night to ask him what brings him in here ?? Are you serious, READ THE CHART!! Then slightly jokingly tells him how he needs to lose weight. I think he's well aware he needs to lose some weight. Dr. Kevin Miller seemed to be the only one who treated him with respect and concern. Bottom line, the treatment and seriousness that was taken were pathetic from Dr. Jeff YATES and Dr. Rhonda PFAFF, I am so disappointed and I wish he would have just went to Christ Hospital or Jewish because at this hospital, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. No answers were provided and the bed side manner from those two doctors was basically non- existent. Save yourself time, go to a different ER. read more
