Some of the teachers lacked in discipline and even let pupils get away with cheating in exams! The I.T. department was dreadful, with us pupils knowing more than the teachers at times. The best departments were the art, history and textiles departments. The teachers always had innovative new ways to teach us and most lessons were a joy. The school dinners were not nice and I spent the last two years of my time there going home for dinner. The school did receive a very good OFSTED report whilst I was there and I hear that it is continuously improving under the supervision of the great head mistress!

They offer brilliant facilites for both pupils and people within the community. As it is a sports college, it has brilliant sports facilities including a gym, an astro turf football pitch and more than one large sports hall. The sixthform offered here is fantastic, and a new dedicated sixthform building was built recently and adds to the schools dedication to its pupils. Having spent 7 years here, I think I can pretty much say it is a superb school and deserves all credit given to it. The basic school buildings are still there, but the corridors where we were blasted by cold air, snow and rain are now glassed in and there are computers and modern ideas everywhere! The Business and Enterprise training centre was opened in September 2004, giving the school conference and meeting facilities, which are often hired out by local groups and businesses. The school became an Enterprise Hub in April 2006, and was awarded High Performing Specialist School status at the start of the academic year 2007-2008. The school has also recently received 'Leading Edge' status. There is no longer a sixth form, but is in partnership with the two main local 16+ colleges (Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology), which many of the students go on to attend. Every year the school holds a variety concert organised and presented by Year 11 Drama and Music Officials, with support from the School Improvement Facilitators (formerly Heads of Department) of Drama and Music. The event showcases dancing, singing, drama sketches and even stand-up comedy, all performed by students. There is still a large playing field and tennis courts and school meals are still provided.

An independent school with a hefty price tag, it's also got the educational achievement and well-educated teaching staff to make it worthwhile. It's known locally as "the posh school"! Sollihull School is a day school for children aged 7-18. Children may attend for all 10 years of their Junior and Senior school years, or apply for admission at the age of 16, to attend only the Sixth Form school. The school is situated on several acres near Sollihull town centre on a very attractive plot with emerald-green lawns and Georgian red brick buildings. The only building that seems to really need some improvement is the gymnasium, which is being rebuilt in 2010-2011, thankfully. The extensive and demanding curriculum includes the Arts, the Classics, Business Studies, an excellent Music programme, and dedication to the Sciences, just to name a few. The school operates a no-tolerance approach to bullying, and the pupils I know who go there say that teachers and play area assistants are quick to intervene if a child is being isolated or bullied. Though the A Level and GCSE results are excellent, the homework load is not very rigorous, leaving families and children time for extra-curricular activities. The fees are high, at just over £7700 per year for under-11s and just under £9500 for over-11s. A recent Independent Schools Inspectorate Report read: "The Junior School at Solihull is a happy, close-knit community in which pupils thrive through a varied curriculum well-suited to their needs." My son is close friends with several pupils who attend the school, and they always seem pleased with their teachers and fellow pupils. No child really likes school, but picking a good one is one of the best things a parent can do to further their child's success in later life.

On the way out of the doors there was a Banana peel on the floor, and I asked the lunch lady politely if it could picked up as my hands were holding the tray with the abomination of the biggest cause of diarrhoea on my plate. The lunch lady responded with no, and then I heard the word 'paki' under her breath. I carried on walking to find myself tripping up on the banana peel and me an asian almost swimming in curry, I'm surprised I didn't drown. There was an uproar of the sound 'weyyyyy', and I thought to myself this has to be he most supportive school.

Individualism is encouraged by a dress code that is non-uniform based. The buildings and playground are well-maintained, with lots of play equipment. The teachers and parents are gung-ho political without being prissy and they managed to recently overturn ill-advised plans to expand the school. How about the teaching? The children are taught in large groups in the classroom and they carry out activity based learning outside of the class room in smaller groups. Friends of Kings Heath Primary School run fund-raising events. Likeable, well-meaning parents make up the school governors. My only criticism would be that the school need to place an emphasis on neat handwriting, as there is a tendency for pretty spidery writing from the kids that I know who go there. Remember: this is not an OFSTED report!
