My furry friend group chose this spot for our big annual camping trip! There were 86 of us total,…read moreand we utilized the Group Site that has several cabins available, plus a main cabin that serves as the place to gather and eat with a full kitchen and walk-in fridge. I really enjoyed the cozy feel to the cabins, which have wonderfully rustic wooden paneling and floors. Our cabin had two wings with four bunk beds each, plus a center room with a large bed (ideal, no doubt, for scouting purposes). The cabins are heated by thermostat and there are a few electrical outlets, but no other amenities that I was aware of. The main cabin had a large center fire pit that made the whole place wonderfully cozy. Also included are several long tables with benches to sit at, as well as additional chairs with backs to gather around the firepit. There are electrical outlets too. Flooring was a mix of wood and tile. There are also restrooms nearby, which include toilets, sinks, and showers. Separated by gender, male and female. The designated parking lot for the Group Site was able to accommodate around 40-45 cars, which served our purposes well. There is also a small roundabout that leads up to the main cabin for ease of unpacking/dropping off gear. All these amenities made the long-weekend very enjoyable! This isn't a huge park by any means, but even in the icy snow, I was able to enjoy a few of the trails while there. The alphabetical trail markings confused me a bit at first, but then I realized it was how the park was indicating "you are here" without customizing each sign. At the trailheads are large informational signs that give you the distance, difficulty, and features you'll see on said trail. The river that cuts through here is really gorgeous. It was partially frozen over during our visit, and we got some flurries while we were camping, which covered everything in a beautiful fresh coat of white powder. Got some great photos and great memories. I was a bit bummed that the Nature Store wasn't open (it's seasonal), because I am a sucker for souvenirs on sightseeing trips to parks and such.

As we started bowling, the music that was playing was completely uncensored. In one verse we heard "F**k that b***ch and make that p***y wanting more..." Realizing we had small children, the attendant ran and switched the music. It was unfortunate that it happened, but we were happy that the issue was remedied right away. For being the only alley left in town, and bowling alleys falling left and right, it's nice to have it here. However, it would be really nice to see some upgrades here and there. I left Winona as a resident 16 years ago, and it seems like everything is exactly the same as when I left. But, also understandable that COVID is killing recreation and small businesses, so it's not a complaint more than a "hope to see in the future". Kids had a blast and were glad we came!!!

However, I previously called and asked about lane availability and was assured to come right on over-that there would be room for us. I did. They waited till I was there to kick us out in front of everyone bc we "shouldn't even be in [there] if we're not Winona State." I assumed Westgate would be full so I didn't initally even try! After being failed by the smaller guy, Winona Bowl, Westgate was my last hope! I get there, it was packed!! I knew it. But I go up to the counter. The guy, Zach, sees me and says, "Just one second please." I waited and he says, "Hi! Welcome. What can I do for you?" I said, "We just got kicked out of Winona Bowl for no reason bc I'm not a student. I am a law student, but not a WSU student. Please, we just wanted to bowl one game. Do you have ANYTHING available." "Oh. Not at the moment but I can take your name. It might be 10-15 minutes." "Ok, I said, "That's fine. I'll wait." I went to notify my little sister that we'd need to wait but that we could stay. I turned to head back to his counter and he was coming to look for me. "We have a lane for you right over here!!" "Wow," I said, "Already?? That was fast!" "Yup. Here ya go!" We all then went to get shoes turned to head over to bowl. He said "You gals have fun. Anything else we can do for you, please let me know. I'll be right up here." It was so busy he had to yell. lol "Thanks so much, Zach?," I yelled back, as I looked at his name tag. He looked down too but then back up when he heard his name and smiled, "Yea." "Zach,... I'm gonna yelp you. I want everyone on Yelp to know how you saved our night!" "Ok," he smiled politely. (I don't think he believed I would actually review HIM.) My sister yells from the lane, "Come on~what are ya scared. You are so going DOWN." I rolled my eyes at her on my way to go get a ball. ..............(And so, we bowled, laughed, cheered, and I DID go down, she mopped the floor with me.) lol Thanks, Zach. You RoCk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're kindness changed our night. No wonder you are always busier at Westgate. Your owner probably cares that you actually know how to treat people. You have won my business every time from here on out. Owner of Wesgate, thanks for the GREAT hire. You entrust your business' reputation to ZACH on busy nights that you are not there, as he is the first one people converse with when they go to the counter. He represents you and carries you well. "Rubber Ducky, You're the One"…read more Full disclosure: I am neither an old hippie nor a new age hippie. Heck, I don't even particularly care for leaving my hair straight. But if you were hypothetically born in the 70's...and I'm not saying that I was... you have a miniature hippie living way down deep in your DNA somewhere. Scientific fact. It's Ok to unleash that inner hippie once and a while, and a perfect place to do it is at Temple Harmonics by fully submerging yourself into one of their restorative, evening sound baths. Rubber ducky and bubbles not included. But do bring your pillow and blanket and snuggle into one of twenty-eight comfortable zero gravity chairs arranged in front of the sound stage. Then prepare to float off to dreamland on a meditative wave of Tibetan Singing Bowls, Tingsha bells, and Native American flutes, all set to keyboard music and choreographed by the very talented gong-show master himself, Frank Andresen. It's ok if you fall asleep. It's also ok if you drool. The sweet, soothing sounds of snoring around the room may also periodically chime in with the music, and hey, that's ok too. But if instead of falling asleep, you are energized by the music, you will feel funky, "good, good, good vibrations' pulsing and humming throughout your body and chi/ki/prana (or in my case, my glowing, chocolate-chip-oatmeal-cookie inner life force). Ladies, remove any ponytail hair binders, FunBun hair pieces, or dangly jewelry as it will distract you from being fully relaxed during your transcendental journey. When the concert is over, you may be invited to step inside one of the Tibetan bowls for a mini chakra balancing from Mr. Andresen. Who doesn't need a Solfeggio frequency or two in their life? Bring a piece of your experience at Temple Harmonics with you when you purchase healing rocks, crystals, jewelry and more for sale at the Rock and Gift Shop near the exit before leaving the building and returning your inner hippie back to its rightful, proper place. **Pro tip: Save yourself $5.00 by reserving a chair ahead of time.
