The back of the stage had the glistening floor to ceiling reminiscent of Butlins holiday camps, not that I've ever been, but I imagine. Of course the room is to hire so you can decorate it any way you want and it's great place to hire for a birthday or indeed any type of event. Whereas the room we were in is private with use of kitchen space, the bar is right outside as ar the bathroom facilities. There's parking too and the place is easy to find just outside the teeny tiny place they call Moseley Village.

Had my 18th birthday party there and Bob and the team looked after us extremely well. They provided…read morea fantastic buffet and allow you to decorate the room as you wish. In terms of the room it is a nice size with plenty of comfortable seating, air conditioning, a good sized dance floor and a stage. Room hire is very reasonable and overall the club is in a good location with plenty of parking and great atmosphere!

In areas that haven't recently been done up, it looks a little old fashioned, and in areas that have, it looks quite clinical, so not an amazing atmosphere in here, but very cheap drinks and plenty of entertainment on offer. You often need to pay to get in.

The Emerald is a place I'm mostly familiar with through functions - family and friends' birthday…read moreparties and the like. I don't think I've ever been there apart from such events, but I've always enjoyed the place when I have been. The function room is reasonably-sized and fits probably 100-200 people, with an appropriate bar and dancefloor and a good layout for buffets etc. There are a couple of other rooms, presumably a bar and a lounge, though as I say, I've only ever really been into the function room. I get the impression that the bar and lounge crowd don't take kindly to non-regulars, but I could be wrong on that. Prices are on par with other such places. There's a sizeable play area out the back so any daytime functions tend to find the kids playing football out there, though this may actually be a car park. The area that the club is in is a bit dodgy.

Stirchley United Working Men's Club is in many ways is an average working men's club, with a couple…read moreof bars, two rooms, a stage and a number of events designed to appeal to the wider community. These events are mostly of the tribute bands and cabaret acts. However once a month is the Stirchley Community Market which brings a whirlwind of different products and services to Stirchley United Working Men's Club. You can buy homemade cakes, local meat products, unique jewellery, fine cheeses, vintage clothing and second hand vinyl. To add to the fun, there's also a dj and local folk acts playing. So in conclusion, Stirchley United Working Men's Club is pretty much the same as most working men's club, apart from once a month when it becomes something extraordinary.

If you've ever been inside a working men's club then you'll know what to expect. If you haven't been inside a working men's club then you simply need to watch an episode of Phoenix Nights. Usually - i.e. when the market hasn't taken it over for the afternoon - you'd need to either be a member or be signed in by a member to enter the building, so visiting when the market is on is probably your best best. Inside there is a fairly large bar / function room with enough chairs and tables to comfortable seat 150 people (this is a guess - it may well be more) and there is a large bar that is well stocked and cheap as chips. There is a small stage in the corner that is used during the market by DJs and acts. Off from the main room there is a smaller bar that I've not yet been in. Overall the place is friendly, clean and welcoming and if you live in the area it's probably somewhere you should have a look at. You may even want to consider joining it as it provides a welcome alternative to The Three Horseshoes

The alcohol is unbelievably cheap and came in around half to 3/4's the price I would normally pay on a night out! I was let in early to move the tables around, decorate and bring in the food. To hire the room only cost around £50 and it was a fairly big room with a dance floor, bar and we also hired out a live band to play as there is a stage. The bar closed at midnight and we had to be out an hour after that, we had to clean the majority of the rubbish away which is fair enough but they did not mind you leaving the black bags there. I have not gone since but my parents (early 60's) go every week or so and they continue to enjoy it as they have live bands and bingo on throughout the week and weekend.
