The hotel is attached to the pub bar which had some strange characters, food was ok but one of the Irish locals made the eating experience uncomfortable being loud and somewhat aggressive to people. A good traditional style venue…read more I've been to this place many many times, role-playing on a Thursday night and it always been a place to hang out for the eve. The staff are very helpful and the prices are very reasonable. They have two function rooms both with their own bars and then two separate small bar areas. The function rooms could probably cope with around 100 downstairs and 50 upstairs. They hire them out at a very reasonable price I believe. Entry is via a door which is released from the bar. I think that has something to do with it being a 'social club' and the rules around that. I've never had a problem getting in at anytime though. It's nice to have that little bit of security I guess if you're having a function. They do have live music and shows at various times as well. I'll get some pics up sometime.

There are several incidents where they address you by your racial profile even though they know your name in front of a large audience and it id seemingly not discourage by other members of the committee and when brought to attention no apology was offered just a smug laugh from the members.

A real Villa…read morepub, this place is a sea of claret and blue on matchday and they open up the big room at the back to show the match on the big screen. The atmosphere is brilliant, we visited last year when Villa beat Blues 5 - 1 and it was wicked with everyone jumping around and screaming every time it looked like Villa were going to score. The only thing that annoyed me was the fact that the room was packed with men, me and about six other females were outnumbered by about 50 blokes at one point and then even the other women seemed to wander out until I felt like a token woman! We had a real laugh though and because these guys are all so passionate about their football, they really gelled together and there was a camaraderie you don't usually see in pubs in this area. There is an excellent restaurant at The Barn, we've eaten here a number of times and the food has always been fantastic. They stick to what they're good at, and this is generally upmarket pub food which the chef does not mess around with trying to make it more swanky. As well as slightly more exotic fish dishes, if you fancy pie and chips or a lasagne then that's exactly what you'll get. Prices for food are fine, on a par with other restaurants in the area, but serving sizes are massive and you definitely get value for your money here. The bar is great, there's a brilliant choice of lager and wine plus my partner always comments on the excellent selection of beers and real ales. All the alcohol is fresh and there has never been a problem with food or drink in The Barn. There are often special guests at The Barn. My fella went to an event a couple of years ago where they had arranged for some of the old Villa heroes to give a talk and reminisce about their time at Villa Park. I also saw a brilliant singer there recently who was superb, unfortunately I can't remember her name but I'm sure she'll go on to good things. This is a social club so you do have to pay to go in. If I remember correctly it was either 50p or £1 to sign yourself in, but yearly memberships are available and I remember thinking how cheap it was - around £15 for annual membership I think and this gives you access to the club whenever you fancy (within reason!) and also first dibs on tickets to events.

I booked this venue for my fathers 60th birthday, retirement, and my parents 40th wedding…read moreanniversary joint-event. The room hire was free which was a huge bonus. Although the decor suffers from a little wear and tear, the venue was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We made use of the Lounge Room which fit the party in with no problems. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced, though a little more expensive than a 'normal' bar I felt. The toilets were very clean, tidy and well presented. There is lots of free parking available outside. On their website they also advertise it as a wi-fi hotspot. Food is served here, and can be organised for functions if you didn't want to do it yourself. There is also a games room, and flood-lit astro turf.
