I am very impressed with the level of patient care the staff has shown my daughter in the maternity ward. From the triage, to the support staff, the nurses and anesthesiologists - the patient care was impeccable. You will know your patient rights and before you decide to do any procedure, you will know the advantages and disadvantages. My daughter was going to go to Lenox Hill based on their reputation and given a family member delivered there BUT, the level of care at St. Barnabas Hospital Maternity ward was by far better than that of Lenox Hill. If you want a great labor experience where you feel comfortable and valued, give this hospital a try. read more

They took blood, X-Rays and a EKG. It's nice that it's nothing major. The care that was given was very good and I thank them. We didn't have any office experience we came into triage. Worst hospital experience I've ever had. Last year, I waited in the waiting room with my friend in a stretcher for 3 hours, before the main room opened up, which we stayed all night. It is dingy, all the medical equipment looks outdated, there was little to no checking up overnight, it was a mess...everything a hospital shouldn't be. My friend was transferred from Lincoln Hospital to St Barnabas. I want to Thank the Staff of Human Angels in Hospice for all of their help. I have never in my life received so much help and support. During his stay and after he passed away the staff was there guiding me. The social worker Cheryl who guided me and helped to prepare me for his passing. I am so grateful. This was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I am asthmatic, and weather and allergies sometimes trigger severe asthma attacks. Because my home is being renovated, I am currently staying with my brother in the Bronx. I was advised to stay away from the renovation due to my asthma. Unfortunately, I experienced a full asthma attack and had to call an ambulance. The EMTs were excellent and asked which hospital I normally go to, but I was struggling to breathe and just needed the nearest hospital. After arriving, I was given an initial treatment and then placed near the entrance and left there for four hours. At one point, I believed my nebulizer medication had run out after about 40 minutes. When I removed the mask, the medication spilled onto my clothes and face--only then did I realize the tubing was never connected to the machine. I tried to get help and had to flag down four different staff members while I was wheezing again. Each one said someone would come, but no one did. One staff member finally helped me--only because I stopped her as she walked by. About an hour later, I began wheezing again. Two more hours passed with no medication and staff actively avoiding eye contact. I eventually unplugged myself from the bed and walked to the desk to ask to be discharged because I was still wheezing and receiving no care. The nurse at the desk asked, "The nurse didn't come to you?" That question alone was shocking. During an asthma attack, I should not have to leave my bed and search for help. I asked for a prescription for prednisone and a rescue inhaler and to be discharged. I refused to stay any longer and continue being neglected. I do not live in this neighborhood, and thank God for that. The lack of care and attention to patients speaks volumes about how this hospital is run. I will never return, and I will strongly advise my brother and others to avoid this place as well. read more

On Friday 6/9/2023 I went into the emergency department. The females at registration were extremely rude and unprofessional. Gave every patient in there a hard time. Mind u while I'm standing there waiting to be registered . One of the employees were cursing and telling her coworker all about her personal life. While patients were trying to register and some were trying to get information on their loved ones. Security stood there and did absolutely nothing. This explains why Lisandro junior guzman died right in front of the emergency room. It's those type of unprofessional staff. Who don't care and let that 15 year old die. My mistake was not calling channel 7 ,11 or 12 and report these horrible workers and un sanitized facility. Where they're suppose to care for and help patients feel better. Next time I'll be sure to report this hospital with their unprofessional and uneducated staff. read more

I have been to this hospital a few times as it is the closest to my home. Not going to lie. The very for at experience was great and they saved my life from bleeding ulcers. Drs were polite, caring and did their jobs with passion. That being said 2 years later (Yesterday) went to the ER via ambulance. Extreem pain in my lower abdomen and my back near my kidneys. Was never in this much pain in my life. Couldnt stop screaming all the way to and in the ER. Finally got a "Doctor" to see me. Never seen this one before. He asked me where the pain was i told him. He asked me "How do I know where my kidneys are. Then I told him ive been on suboxone and clean for 5 years drom any drugs and alcohol. At that point care stoped. He accused me of drug speaking proceeded to do nothing but a CT scan and then out the door. Pain got worse so I went to a different ER where they found that I had in fact a abdominal aortic aneurysm that had torn but not leaked. Life threatening to say the least. Will be filing charges against that Dr and the hospital all becauae he wouldnt listen to a paitiant in need. read more

I was truly taken aback when St. Barnabas hospital called me at 11:45 pm to inform me that Admitting- 718-960-6629 needed to know had I begun making arrangements for my husband (whom I just lost that morning at 1:15 am). The clerk was very apologetic but said her supervisor told her to find out this information from me because the morgue was getting full. She informed me that I have eight (8) days before the body goes to the medical examiner's office. So since he went into the morgue that very morning, I wouldn't think that I'd be contacted about whether and when the body would be picked up. I was appalled. I must say from the hospital stay of my husband, I was quite disappointed with the staff.: The "beside manner" has a lot to be desired; The cleanliness of the room has a lot to be desired; The staff's interaction with the patients and visitors of the patient should be addressed as well; The attentiveness of patient's needs was waning. I walked in to my husband's room to find him sleeping whilst he was using a urinal. How embarrassed I was for not only him but my daughter as well who had no choice but to see her father disrobed. On that day my husband was transferred to the hospital's hospice. It was like a whole new world. The difference between 6 North and Hospice was the care/concern of the patients. read more

Hand surgeon Dr. Christopher Koontz told me that I needed surgery on my ulnar nerve or the symptoms that I was experiencing in my left hand would eventually turn into my left hand becoming permanently unusable. The same test found carpal tunnel syndrome in both my right and left hands, but worse in my right. Dr. Koontz talked me into getting carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand at the same time, telling me that it was a simple procedure with a small slit in my wrist and an endoscope. When the bandages came off, I had a huge stitched-up slit in my palm. I was immediately nauseated, and they kept making excuses why it had to be done that way. It was a "might as well" procedure, and I would never have consented to it had the doctors warned me of the possibility. My right hand is certainly not experiencing symptoms that I would ever allow it to be cut into like that, and, as I said, the test result showed that the carpal tunnel syndrome was worse in my right hand. Yesterday, one of the nurses in physical therapy said that it's not the hospital policy for doctors to warn you of those things. I feel like I was deliberately denied full disclosure so that they could scar me for life to make a profit. I'm currently experiencing far worse symptoms than I had when I went in, but they're telling me that surgery is traumatic, so my experience is normal. My gut was telling me to consent only to the ulnar nerve surgery. I should have listened. The paperwork I signed almost certainly protects them from a lawsuit, because it says that I consented to carpal tunnel surgery, but that doesn't stop me from publicizing that I feel abused. read more

The Physicians, Physician Assistant's and Nurses in the ER are fabulous however the place is a dump. It just goes to show you can spend millions building and dressing the place up but the lack of cleanliness and rudeness prevail. A visit to the ER for a broken ankle turned into multiple hour visit and I was fast tracked, imagine if I wasn't. I witnessed dried blood on a bed, pills that were dropped on the floor and not swept up during my entire visit. Oh yes let's not forget the rudeness of the non medical personal, especially the registration girl, (wish I got her name). They tried to discharge her with out a plan. Nobody talks spanish in hospital. They only let 2 people in a day smh they have no type of communication with people downstairs and nurses. The staff is disrespectful and helps no one, I sat and watched a man bleed out of his stitches for an hour and was not helped. They are equipped to be a proper hospital in my opinion. It's corona season and I watched multiple people in and out the bathroom with it not being cleaned once in the 6 hours I sat there. My sister had a scheduled c-section for September 4th with an appointment of 630am. We arrived 530am and waited an hour before checking can be done. Following the check-in I advised the staff that both I and her husband was present as i'M their advocate. My sister had a traumatic experience just 1 year ago resulting in the death of her newborn so she was experiencing extreme anxiety. The nurse and doctors were nice and polite or so I thought until......I exited the room to allow her husband in for the surgery and was greeted by 2 security guards. I was rudely told by a staff wearing a white shirt I have to leave the building immediately. I explained that the nurses told me to stay in the waiting area but he replied I have to exit the building completely. The security along with a 2nd security guard escorted me out the building. I was embarrassed and felt like a criminal. I didn't raise my tone to staff, there were no impolite exchanges, or any aggressive behavior that required security escort. Done ever come here if you can avoid it. The nurses and nursing assistants are incompetent. The doctors are rude and arrogant. I'm starting with tue most recent incident. One of the two nurses who are competent was giving me my medications and a doctor came and yelled at her and made her go to another room instead of treating me. I guess that guy pays cash because my job provides top level insurance. No let's go back to the beginning. 1. I told a doctor that I was still having a lot of pain. He suggested more medication. I told him that the nurses don't forget to give medications on time and if they did the pain would be controlled. He went the the nurse that was assigned to me and told her. This coward came and confronted a tiny sick woman with a broken leg. REALLY!? 2. They forget to give me meals. Not that the food is the greatest but my friend can't bring me food all day. 3. I was brought to this hospital for mental illness-related reasons. After being kept in the emergency room for two nights and an entire day, I was admitted into their psych ward. Being in that psych ward was one of the most awful experiences in my life so far. The first day I was there I was sexually harassed by another patient, and all the nursing staff would do was tell me "Tell us when it happens again." Mind you, they allowed the male patients to walk around in the female area but would not let female patients walk the full hall if we wanted to. So there were a couple of occasions when that patient found my room and tried to talk to me from the hall. Not only this, but that patient also harassed some female nurses and was *encouraged* and enabled by some of the male nurses. My mother and I were also attacked during visiting hours by another patient who was known to be violent-- luckily a male nurse was there to protect us. I also witnessed a violent fight between that patient and the one that would not stop harassing women. They did not break the fight up until another nurse saw what was happening and took it upon himself to pull them apart. Then, they did not have shampoo for patients to use in the shower. Just a weird 3-in-1 soap that made my skin break out, so I never used it on my head as my scalp is sensitive. So, yes, I went almost two weeks in that ward without washing my hair, and we were not allowed to have any kind of shampoo brought to us by loved ones. One nurse said I could have outside shampoo, but another said I couldn't. This brings me to my next complaint: different nurses had different rules based on how they felt. Some nurses were incredibly harsh, and nasty, and very clearly worked in the ward to feel powerful. I often overheard them making fun of patients and perpetuating stigmas. But thankfully there were a handful of very kind and attentive nurses. I had to learn which were nice and which were mean so that my stay there wasn't completely unbearable. All this to say I genuinely do not recommend this hospital to literally anyone going through a mental health/illness crisis. Please seek care elsewhere. read more

My son had a traumatic brain injury went to emergency to check on a small lump. My son ended up with pneumonia! , mrsa and sepsis. The hospital failed to give him his seizure meds after pleading for with the doctor, finally My an was seen by ICU. My an is now on a ventilator. My son has been throwing up for over 24 hours. Now he has an obstruction in the intestines. Icu was amazing. Once out of ICU the nurses do WHT they can. We need doctors to take moe responsibility. I pray my son gets better. read more

I was recently brought by ambulance to the SBH ER and subsequently admitted to their cardiac telemetry unit. Across the board, I found hospital staff (doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, and support staff) to be extremely professional, responsive, and respectful throughout my brief hospital stay. I have worked in teaching hospitals for the past 40 years. With that as a reference point, I cannot say that my care at SBH was deficient by any standard. Thank you for the excellent care I received. My wife and I scoped out St. Barnabas hospital as a place to deliver our baby during the pandemic. We came in person to find out details about where to enter, and a polite woman working there pointed us in the right direction and gave us timing details. It turns out that from 7pm until 7am, the main entrance was closed and we'd need to enter through the emergency room if my wife went into labor during those hours. Turns out she went into labor during the evening a few weeks later. We arrived in the emergency room and she was admitted almost immediately. The doctors went above and beyond to take excellent care of her, were incredibly supportive of her during a very difficult delivery, and provided attentive hospitality over the following 48 hours. We were truly grateful for every aspect of our stay. read more
