I loved learning about the history of the Kill, how it shaped the development of the town, and it's role in the local watershed as a tributary to the Hudson. It's walkable from Main Street - if you have access to a car I recommend parking in the Visitor Center lot or a municipal one and walking over to the access point which is by the Aquatic Center behind the Visitor Center. The walkway is well maintained; however, I noticed some litter on the side bank areas by the water. Though disheartening this presents an opportunity for local municipal organizations to organize clean up initiatives or consider maintenance to this important water body and presents a reminder to visitors to carry out what out what you bring in.

All info is taken from an Internet article, so it is quotes and I will give it credit (at the end). " The history of the school house is a complicated saga. After it was built in 1841 across from the Kirby farm, the Kirby family bought the land for $5 and demolished the building. A new building was constructed in 1852 on a plot across from what is now the junction of routes 117 and 128. In 1899, after the Kirbyville and Mount Kisco school districts were consolidated, the building was purchased by the town of New Castle; at the time, Mount Kisco was partly in New Castle and partly in Bedford. The building was moved to its current site on Moore Avenue in Mount Kisco in 1900, where it went on to serve many purposes: residents paid their taxes there, and it was used as a polling place, senior citizen center and food pantry."
