I lived on Quinn St from 1940 to 1951 and attended Sir John Thompson and St Agnes School. At that time Father Louie Graham was the pastor and The Sisters of Charity taught us including Sister Agnes Bernedette,Sister Matilda and Sister Charles Garnier.I remember parading to the old St Agnes Church on Easter Sunday and during Lent.My dad,Bert Lawrence and my mum Evelyn were always involved with St Agnes.Every Christmas my dad's big job was erecting the manger and making sure the GLORIA IN EXCLCIS DEO sign was in good shape,he also ushered at the church.I was in the choir with people like Charlie Maquire,Raymond Ryan and Charlie Henry.Thank God the Sisters of Charity were teaching at that time, they were the very best, you never asked a question of them,if they said the world was round it was round, period. Many great memories of St Agnes which followed me thru until today in fact my wife Sheila and I were the last couple to be married in the old church,September 21st 1963,Wow that's over 50 years and she still puts up with me ! Two of our three boys were baptized at St Agnes,Michael and Peter,Patrick was baptized in Waverley. On Sunday in the old church one of the chores was ringing the bell in the tower, you would pull on the rope and then hang on while it lifted you off the floor.Father Morris is awesome his father was Edmund Morris, mayor,MP and MLA.I was on the radio doing my morning show the morning " Pauley was born ,his dad aired a political bit on CJCH.Sorry I rambled on so much but St Agnes was so close to me when I was growing up !God Bless St. Agnes,The Sisters of Charity and Father Morris !!!!
