I have admired this cathedral ever since moving to the HRM over 2 years ago. I always look in awe at it's glorious and beautiful architecture and today I finally got to go inside. I was raised Catholic but am now Atheist, however I still have a strange fascination with churches and cathedrals. The architecture in this one is immensely beautiful. The stained glass alone is breathtaking. I truly admire the history of places like this. The immense work that must have been put into building such a place. I would go back again just to try to take more photos. And hey, I didn't burst into flames. :)

Like my predecessors (yelp reviewers), I have not visited this church on a Sunday morning in my…read morenicest slacks - however, I have been in during evenings when the drums are thumping and toes are tapping. This church is located on Barrington Street, facing the historic Old Burying Grounds. Upon entering the front door, the library smell mixed with the pie-in-the-sky ceilings will have you awe struck. Curved bench seating directed at the alter, or alternatively stage, enables tons of great places to cozy in with a great view. You can choose to sit in the balcony area which may give you slight feelings of grandeur. Above the entrance is a great wooden balcony giving you a bird's eye view on the whole place. It's nice to pop up here during the show, just so that you can take and breath and take it all in. There is no bar, so bring a mini-sip or a juice box if you tend to get thirsty. If you're feeling truly retro or maybe just pious, dress in your Sunday's best, complete with bonnet and shin length skirt. St Matthew's Church is a fantastic venue for musicians and spectators alike. It's comfortable, relaxed and of course glorious in its beauty.

Well, church was not my thing, but the service was amazing and the pastors are kind and they have an awesome community presence especially when it comes to helping out the homeless (I'm not sure if they still have the breakfast program on Sunday mornings). I grew up in the Middle East where crazy rock concerts in a church are pretty much frowned upon, so I was super curious about this, since I've heard a lot of good things about this spot. But I finally managed to attend a concert at the church and the acoustics are simply amazing. This a perfect spot for a folk/acoustic concert. My co-worker and I decided to partake in a few shows for the Halifax Pop Explosion and we were both mind-blown but the awesomeness of the spot.
