I'm sharing my experience so other patients can make an informed decision. While this doctor was friendly during visits, my overall experience throughout my pregnancy was extremely disappointing due to repeated miscommunication and lack of organization. At every appointment where I came in for heartbeat checks using the in-office monitor, I was consistently told that my baby was female. While I personally did not mind the gender as long as my baby was healthy, I trusted the information being given to me. At my official gender reveal ultrasound, I found out my baby was actually male. If there was any uncertainty, that should have been clearly communicated instead of presenting assumptions as fact. There was also confusion regarding my delivery date, which resulted in me going in on the wrong day. That situation was stressful and completely avoidable with proper communication. To make matters worse, this doctor did not even deliver my baby. Another doctor had to step in at the time of delivery, which added to the feeling of disorganization and lack of continuity in care. Overall, the entire experience felt like a complete flop. Pregnancy is a time when patients need accurate information, consistency, and clear communication. Unfortunately, that was missing here. While she was personable, that alone is not enough when it comes to something as important as prenatal and delivery care. I do not recommend. read more

I really like Dr. Shanta and her staff; however I do not agree with their billing practices. They have been over charging me on my co-pay (it is $30, not $50)--they did not bother calling to confirm with my insurance what my responsibility was and just outright said it was increased to $50. I have verified with the insurance that ob/gyn is still only $30. Also, I called today to get info on an IUD and they require full payment (~$850) up front before they will order the IUD. They are supposed to be charging my insurance first and then bill me any remaining balance (if any). Not sure why they won't call the insurance to find out what it would be rather than charge full price up front. 3-stars because Dr. Shanta is very pleasant and thorough. The staff is pleasant but I do not agree with the office's billing practices. Update--I went to planned parenthood for my IUD. It was covered 100% by my insurance. The process was so much easier than having to "order" and pay for the IUD I wanted from Dr. Shanta's office and then come back again when it arrived for insertion. read more

I love Dr. Shanta. I found her to be very compassionate, patient and geniunely interested in getting to me as a patient. I immediately felt grateful for having been recommended to her by a friend. Her staff was equally as caring and thoughtful. Dr. Shanta was very thorough. Everyone was professional and made me feel as if I had been a long term patient. VERY LONG REVIEW. Skip to the end if you want to know about how the practice handled my refund. I was in search of an OB because I had just moved to the area and was 20 weeks pregnant. When I called for an appointment, the person on the phone was demanding and rushed me to have my prenatal records faxed to them asap or else I wouldn't be seen. I got my records faxed to their office before my appointment (I loved my previous OB but we had moved from another state, and his office was very nice and quickly faxed all of my information the morning before my appointment with just a one day notice). Fast forward to my appointment: I arrived 30-40 minutes early and did all the paperwork and waited for about an hour before being called back. I was told that I needed to pay upfront for the ultrasound and if my insurance covered it, they would refund me. I went ahead and paid for it because we wanted ultrasound pictures (which were very crappy shots by the way) and a gender confirmation. My husband didn't like that everything was outdated and asked me to find another OB but I continued to keep seeing Dr. Shanta. I was seeing her for about 2 months before she told me she wasn't making money with her OB practice and suggested that I find a new OB because she would no longer be practicing OB in 2018. She had suggested me to do this because my baby was due January 5, 2018 (and I guess she didn't want the possibility of me delivering in the new year because she gets a yearly charge from the hospital no matter how many deliveries she has). Thankfully, I was able to find another OB office at such a short notice (and to be honest, I really loved my new OB's office/practice SO MUCH better than Dr. Shanta's). Previously with Dr. Shanta, I made out of pocket payments. The payments were for the delivery fee, but since she was no longer going to deliver my baby, I was told I would get a refund. About 3 weeks after I had delivered my baby, I called Dr. Shanta's office to see if I was still getting my refund (keep in mind, it had been 3 months since I was last seen in their office). When I called, the receptionist sounded surprised and said I should've gotten my refund already. She told me she would contact the billing person and get back to me. It took about another month before I received the refund check. I reviewed the billing details because I was refunded only 45% of what I paid for out of pocket. The 55% of what I paid for was used to cover the remaining balance of what my insurances didn't cover. The refund check had my maiden name on it and my bank wouldn't accept it because my account had my married name. I called their office to see if they could issue a check with my new name and they said no. My bank called their office to break down the legal issues of why I needed the check with my new name on it. After debating for a while, my bank teller asked them "so you won't issue a different check if any of your patients get married and change their last names?" So they finally said okay but I needed to drive up to their office with proof of my previous last name and proof of my new last name. Their office handled the situation unprofessionally and was very rude to both the bank teller and I. When asked to speak to Dr. Shanta, the man on the phone claimed he was Dr. Shanta when I know for a fact Dr. Shanta is a female. I brushed off all of my previous problems I had with her office, but this refund situation was handled inappropriately. If you are being seen by her, make sure you know what your insurance covers and how much you're paying for out of pocket. Keep track of it because they will most likely not care about refunding your money unless you bring it up constantly. read more

I have to say I am quite surprised to see the negative reviews. When I found Dr. Shanta I had been to numerous other doctors looking for help to no avail. I had been experiencing monthly bacterial infections and not one doctor could help diagnose the problem nor had any recommendations on how I could cure it. I was told I was just going to have to live with it. During my first visit with Dr. Shanta she was very caring and sensitive about the subject and I felt very comfortable addressing my issues with her. She was able to immediately diagnose the problem and came up with a game plan to help maintain the infections. I am proud and happy to say I have been infection free for 2 years now because of her. I genuinely love Dr. Shanta and would recommend her to anyone. She has been my saving grace and find myself very sad to have to find a new doctor because of a change in my insurance. We love Dr. Shanta! She was recommended to us by a friend who also had her baby delivered by her. So glad we chose this Dr. She was my OB for my 1st pregnancy and delivered my son vis c-section in August 2015. I'm currently pregnant with baby #2 and still continue to see her. She has always been so nice and understanding and always warmly greets me. The office can get a bit busy at times and even with an appointment the wait can get a little long. This has only happened less than a handful of times in the year and a half I've been seeing her. The ladies working the office have always been nice to me but i have gotten little previews of what some may call a rude attitude or what have you. I've personally never hsd a problem with them though. Victoria is the nicest and I feel like she's a friend when we go in there! I will be continuing to have Dr. Shanta be my OB/GYN. read more

Dr Shanta delivered both my girls now ages 22 and 27. My 22 year old daughter has gone to her for her Well Womens appts a couple times now. We LOVE Dr. Shanta but her staff is so rude she does not feel comfortable to go back. I went to her first appt with her and we both nearly walked out of the waiting room because the front office was so rude. The older woman behind the desk (who has been there since my girls were delivered in 1990) actually slammed the plexi glass window shut on us after we corrected her on our co-pay (she wanted $150 up front when our PPO co-pay is $25). My daughter just had the same repeat horrible experience with her office this morning. We love you Dr Shanta but it's a shame you have to lose patients due to your front office staff. read more

Dr Shanta is the most caring thoughtful dr she doesn't just rush you out of the office she takes her time to explain everything. Her staff is incredible Denise and carmen do everything they can to make your experience wonderful. They call you right away to let you know of results whether they are bad or good. They call to remind you of your appointments. They take the time to answer whatever questions they can within there knowledge if you want a wonderful experience with an OB/GYN Shanta is going to be the best from her to the staff won't ever be a bad experience. You may wait sometimes but it's worth it she is the only dr in the office your not seeing a bunch of different Drs who have no idea who you are besides what they see on paper. I had previously had a baby with another dr and I can tell you she was 20x better from the start to finish never had to worry about anything dr Shanta, carmen, and Denise were on top of everything. My delivery was truly amazing all my post op appointments were great carmen and Denise are the BEST!!! read more

Dr. Shanta appeared nice when I initially started going to her. I had uterine fibroids and wanted them removed however; I was not interested in having a hysterectomy. I am a registered nurse so I was suggesting some procedures that interest me. Every procedure I suggested she stated she wasn't familiar with. I have been in the business a while and have seen many botched open abdominal surgeries. Not saying she would have botched my surgery, nevertheless, I wasn't taking any chances. I went home, thought about it, and opted to not go the more invasive route. I sought out a radiologist that does the UFE (uterine fibroid embolization). I guess Dr. Shanta was not pleased with my decision because she would not sign the order for me to have the procedure. I made my insurance carrier aware of her practices and I will never go back to her. read more

We visited Dr. Shanta for the first time yesterday and were very unhappy. We are having twins and were looking forward to meeting the OB for the first time and seeing the little guys. The office staff was very stressed and disorganized. The office itself was not clean and appeared to have very outdated equipment (compared to HRC, which was our phenomenal fertility clinic). We arrived 45 minutes early to complete paperwork and still were made to wait (naked) for 70 minutes after our scheduled appointment time. They charged us cash up front and didn't appear to run our insurance at all. They needed to draw my blood before I left and that was a giant mess, with blood dripping all over the table. Worst OBGYN we have encountered. As a reputable surrogacy agency we work with a lot of OBGYN's and Dr. Shanta is one of the WORST that we have yet to encounter. It is hard to find a starting point to complain but first lets start with the fact that Dr. Shanta told our surrogate from the start that she wants to be paid in cash. Which is highly illegal as the surrogate has insurance that must be billed first. Now that the surrogate is at the 34th week mark in her pregnancy (way past the point of being able to transfer OBGYN's) to inform her that if she does not pay $2,300.00 she will no longer see her as a patient. When confronted by our office manager and informed that it is illegal to request monetary compensation in lieu of billing the insurance our office manager was informed by Dr. Shanta herself, that "No one will tell her how to practice her business and that she will get paid or will not see the patient" I am appalled at the fact that this is a practicing OBGYN, let alone one that only seems to care about her compensation rather than the quality of the patient care. We have filed a complaint with the California State Medical Board & want to make sure that other pregnant women do not run into this issue with this OBGYN. read more

First, my mom started going to Dr. Shanta years ago and was so happy with her (it needs to be said that my mom is very sensitive, shy, and hard to please) yet could not speak highly enough about her. So when I needed to find a gynecologist in the area I went to Dr. Shanta too. She's great!!!! She cares about what you have to say and is concerned about your issues and works to solve your problems. She has been so conscientious of our health and comfort and I've been referring her to every woman I know. & By the way: The support staff has also been nice and friendly. read more

Have to go to this dr because in network but she is horrible!!! Receptionist is extremely rude, slams window on people and she spoke to me and 2 others in very condescending way. I also heard dr in hallway talking rudely about me while I was waiting naked in exam room for 45 minutes. Shocked to see any positive reviews (are they fake?) The other negative reviews are accurate as far as the lack of patience, understanding, and experience. One of the WORST ob-gyn experiences I have ever endured. First off, the support staff is RUDE and LOUD. The whole waiting room gets to hear how you're billed and what your insurance (supposedly) doesn't cover. They demand payment without bothering to bill your insurance first, claiming they just know already that their services won't be covered. Then your appointment time is arbitrary as you will wait no less than one hour to be seen (but usually way longer). Then there's Dr. Srivastava herself. She appears polite and professional and even knowledgeable. Initially. Then on subsequent appointments she can't answer your questions. I told her I wasn't interested in certain procedures they wanted to perform and was happy to sign any waivers. She started talking to me like I was an idiot and then told a series of stories about other patients (which had nothing to do with anything). I told her I do not pretend to be the educated expert she is supposed to be, but I was on my fourth (normal) pregancy and I and my previous babies had no problems when I refused the procedures before. She became upset and said she doesn't like patients like me who decline things. What, she doesn't like a woman who makes her own decisions concerning her own body and baby? What decade are we in? By the end of my time as her patient, I had her giving contradictory information, telling her staff the opposite of what she told me, and demanding I come in for those procedures I don't want. Then, there is not timely call back when you need information or assistance, there is not a consensus of understanding among the dr and staff, and there is no reason to subject yourself to this. I haven't had this kind of Dr. in a long time. I was sad to read some of her other reviews as she really took her time with me.
