Went in to buy a Ford - we would literally have bought the car on the day but the staff were all like the typical wide boy I know better than you type. I went with my mother and remained quiet through the proceedings - we actually found the car we wanted in the car park, gave the specs we wanted i.e. Ex Demo Ford Fiesta but they continually tried to push a NEW car on us - never listened to my mother said. Ignored totally that the car we had actually given almost a 100% match for was in their Ex Demo car park outside. I remained silent right to the end and then when I realised they were trying to fob my poor old mum off I started to ask questions - I am an excellent car mechanic having built my own Kit Car and own several vehicles so I knew about 500 times more than any of these slimy little toads they call salesmen in terms of technical specs , engine capacity and the like - as soon as they realised I was not just the dumb son accompanying his mother they got all defensive. Walked out and would never go back - utterly awful experience for my poor mum - she was so embarrassed! The Asian guy who came in to try and seal the deal was an utter arrogant p***k and I would have knocked his lights out if it was in any other situation - how they can employ d***s like this is beyond me!

He was honest and didn't apply the usual sales pressure tactics or BS, just offered a fair deal and a fair trade-in. Having returned to the garage recently Tom was happy to recommend a Nissan garage to us which helped us find a good deal, even though it was through a different company. Definitely worth checking it out if you are looking to buy a new or recent Toyota.

However, this does not mean that their customer service has slipped to the level of Taggarts in Motherwell... After several horrific experiences with multiple branches of Arnold Clark over the years (a business we won't even touch to get a spare windscreen wiper fitted in future, regardless a new car), we looked at Land Rover as an option and Shields as a dealer. Eye-opening. It's wonderful to discover in this day and monopolised age of car dealers that there is still at least one company out their that's not trying to rip you off and treat you like dirt the moment they have your cash (*cough*Arnold Clark*cough*). The salesman we dealt with was obviously hugely happy to be working for Taggert (and has been with them since they were Shields) and was nothing but honest through all our dealings. We got the best trade-in for our previous vehicle that we'd been offered anywhere, a hefty discount on the car after haggling, and he went out of his way to ensure we got delivery on a day that suited us just before a long family trip. After-sales care has been a similar joy. Not just "satisfactory", but "superb". Pleasant. Enjoyable. And full of nice surprises, like European breakdown cover included for life - as are MOTs. We honestly can't fault the buying experience or anything that's followed. Thanks you Taggarts (Glasgow) for restoring out faith in car retailers!

Went car finding with a friend, and we were led here by our trusty sat nav, and lo' - we were…read moregreeted by an ethusiastic sales assistant, who didn't try and push us towards buying the 'new top of the range/will clean itself/will make you tea and coffee' bus of a car. In fact, he was mega helpful. He even made me a nice wee cup of tea whilst I sat and read magazines (of the variety that are slightly more up-to-date than those in your local doctor's surgery...), and my mate talked shop. Or car, really. Ended up, they didn't have the model he was looking for, but the guy was really helpful and sent us on our way to the next garage which did have the car in stock (he even phoned ahead to check!). I'm just glad there was tv, coffee and magazines to entertain me as car shopping can be a tad on the boring side - apparently there's more to them than the four wheels, and the 'it-gets-me-from-a-to-b' factor... who knew!?
