On a recent girls' night out in Southport, it was left to the invincible Suzy to sort out our digs for the night. She came up trumps with the little gem that is Squires, conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the town centre. We paid £25 a night for bed and breakfast but conditions were a little cramped with 3 and 4 of us sharing rooms. The showers were a nightmare running hot and cold, the complimentary shower gels had leaked all over the tea bags and once we'd paid on arrival, there wasn't a member of staff inside. That said, I enjoyed the whole Rising Damp feel of the place (strange I know), and the convenient location and hearty full English would definitely tempt me back. Yes, there are sure to be far better establishments in the Southport area but if you're looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful to lay your drunken head, then Squires is an ideal guest house to try. read more
