This is a PSA for anyone who uses or is thinking about using Squaw Valley Creek Veterinary Clinic- Dr. Crabtree. Like every pet owner, we love our pets and want what is best for them. We brought our 6 year old cat, Cupcake, to a vet we had not used before...Dr. Crabtree...on October 4th, 2022 with concerns that she had a bladder infection. They kept her for 3 days and 2 nights because they were struggling to get a urine sample. When we picked her up we paid them $550.00 and they provided us with an antibiotic to give her for 10 days. We had a camping trip planned that weekend and ended up taking her camping with us so that we could make sure she got her medicine. I contacted them on October 13 and told them the cat was vomiting and not acting normal. I also explained to them that my husband had traveled to Florida on October 11 for business and ended up requiring emergency brain surgery to remove a brain tumor that we were unaware of and I was in Florida with him and would have a friend take her back to the vet to be watched. The vet's office told me it was more than likely hairballs and not to worry. I contacted them this week almost daily asking them to please schedule a time to see her. I explained to them that I was not home and why I was out of town. I told them I needed them to check her again because she seemed to be getting worse by the day according to the person watching her. They told me to bring her in the following week on Monday to be checked. Over the weekend I was traveling home with my husband when I got a call that Cupcake was unable to stand up on her own. I asked a family member to take her to an emergency animal hospital. There we were told that Cupcake was too far gone and would need to be put down. The vet at the animal hospital advised that a simple x ray would have shown Dr. Crabtree that our cat had a blocked urethra and if they had just catheterized her the blockage would have cleared in a few days. They also advised this would have been an issue during the time frame Dr. Crabtree saw her and that a sign would have been the fact that she could not urinate for almost three days at their office. Instead Squaw Valley ignored my calls for help and our cat suffered greatly for days on end with toxins building up in her body and shutting down her kidneys. Not only did my two children have to deal with the trauma of seeing their dad for the first time since his surgery , but they got to watch their cat be euthanized on the same day. Pets dying is a part of life and as I explained to our kids it is a part of being a pet owner. However, this did not have to happen and was avoidable and I will never forget how they treated our cat and our family. read more
