Below is my 3.5 years ordeal with Square Foot construction and its owner PJ. Three and half years ago, I hired SQ FT construction company to build an addition over my garage. The project was approved by Mukilteo City with 6 month long build permit. I was required to pay 50% contract when we signed construction agreement and paid another 25% contract when SQ FT started to work on my project in 2 month later. However, the project took one year and still had 25% interior work not finished. PJ said he don't honor the permit time when I complained his retardation from the permit time. Surprised to me! During the construction, he had disagreement with electrician about the payment vs work statement and rejected to pay the difference. He asked me to pay additional difference of $3.3k even if I alrrady paid him all as a general contractor that includes electrician and plumber work. So he never honor our signed agreement! In order to move forward my project, I have to pay the difference between him and electrician. The project progress became slow and slow for the last 10% of interior work. Sometimes, no one showed for several weeks and he always did not return my call or text. By that time, he told me his business needed an emergency cash flow and asked if I could help to loan him for a month only. I was so naive to believe him and thought he would quicken my project for my financial help. Unfortunately, he still did not return all loan to this day which is already one and half years. It took me time and painful effort to chase him over the last year for my loan payment. Worst of all, he thought he could not get any money from my project. He rarely sent his man to work on my project after. What a moral! So it took another year to finish the last 10% of work. That is not the end of my ordeal yet. After project is done, I found the cold water is hot for both sink and toilet. I asked him to fix the hot water crossing. However, he screwed up with the plumber sub contractor. The plumber would not come to help to debug where crossing could occur. It took another one year to hire different plumbers to check. Because he did not pay the plumber all his work for several projects for 6 months, that plumber sent me a mail that he already hired a lawyer to sue him and put my house and several other houses he worked as a lien. What a nightmare! Of course, a law suit will follow against him for the unpaid loan including financial cheating of his issuing several large amount of checks that could never be cashed from banks. What a risk to hire such a person without moral and professionalism who does not honor any written agreement, not to mention his words!! Once you paid 75% of your project cost in advance, your project finish time will be in his mercy!! read more

We engaged Square Foot in March of 2023 to fix water damage and renovate our leaking shower, and it is still not done. We have engaged an attorney to look into possible legal action against the company, and have begun to reach out to other vendors to finish the approximately 8 hours of work remaining on the project. At the start, it went well. They had demo done quickly. After that, though, it has been a horrendous ordeal. The owner, PJ, does not communicate well at all. I had people show up at my house unannounced constantly. I could not get a project update from him in a timely fashion, ever. He did not respond to text, email or phone calls. He only seems to have a loose understanding of project management or customer service. The first person to come after demo said they were there to assess the water damage, but were not doing any of the repair work. This was fine. The next person sent said they were a finish carpenter, and could not do any of the work to repair the water damage. The next person was able to fully assess the water damage and perform the repairs, and did good work. However, they left my house without siding for an extended period of time. The siding was eventually replaced and painted, but not without many angry emails, phone calls and text exchanges with PJ. The next people to come out were there to lay tile. However, as part of the demolition the workers sent by Square Foot had broken the drain system of my shower. I informed PJ of this and that I would not allow the tile people to repair the drain (they wanted to), as I wanted the work done by a licensed and bonded plumber. Square Foot was able to have the drain replaced, and the tile was completed. The tile company did very good work, but they are subcontractor to Square Foot, not affiliated with the company. Some drywall repair was done, and subsequent painting was completed. That was on August 3rd, 2023. It is now October 30th, 2023. The only thing left for Square Foot on this project is to order and install a glass shower door and a shower window. I spent August asking when this work would be done, and then sent a certified letter stating deadlines in September. Square Foot blew through those deadlines, with only measurement for the door and windows taking place. Due to this, as stated above, we are working with our attorney to look into recourse, as well as seeking other companies to finish the work. I would heavily advise anyone against using Square Foot for your contracting needs. Please look at them in the Washington State Labor and Industries Contractor finder. It will list all the court cases filed against Square Foot's license and bond, as well as any findings the department has levied against the company. It was eye opening for me, and I will be sure to check it any time I have to engage another contractor. read more

If you're considering contracting Squarefoot LLC for a project please exercise due diligence and protect yourself from the kind of grief we suffered as a result of hiring them. Our project consisted of relative minor changes and additions to our kitchen, bathroom, and laundry. In the fall of 2020, yes, four years ago, Squarefoot submitted a bid and description of work to furnish and install a coffee/wet bar in our dining area, build out a shower in our master bathroom, move our washer and dryer from the entry hall to the garage, and install a new tankless hot water heater. We stressed the importance of completing the work prior to the following fall in that we had out of town guests expected for a two week stay. This is well documented in writtencorrespondence, emails and text messages. The first red flag that went up was when I ask if Squarefoot would be procuring the permit(s) for the work. The response was "We don't usually bother with permits for a job this small. It doesn't take a construction manager to know that any plumbing or electrical work requires a permit, and as I also learned that since the garage is an unheated space classified as an outdoor environment a building permit is required if portions are included for indoor occupation. That was the first of many delays brought about by what I consider lack of proper management. We were assured, verbally that there would be more than ample time to complete said work. On numerous occasions we requested a schedule of the work or some description of the time line for when each part of the project would be completed. We were promised that this would be furnished but it never was. Through the early months of 2023 we were prudent in notifying Squarefoot of appointments and commitments we had during the work week in order to coordinate when, or as it turns out, if Squarefoot would need access to the house for their crew. There was rarely any indication of when they would arrive. In one case, the installation of the counter top for the coffee bar, their subcontractor for the coffee bar countertop arrived at 7:00 PM to drill holes for the sink faucet, with no prior notification he was coming. With that part of the project somewhat in usable condition, Squarefoot proceeded to commence the demolition necessary for the master bath shower installation. Once a proper permit was obtained and the framing and wallboard for the shower were completed, preparation for the shower enclosure clearly lacked the degree of proper installation of the waterproof membrane. I called the Squarefoot owner's attention to my concerns and he assured me that everything was being done according to 'industry standards'. This did not satisfy my concerns so I documented the entire work area with photos that I sent to the manufacturer's customer service personnel asking if this complies with their installation standards and requirements. They informed me that they would not warranty the installation. Aside from the manufacturer of the material not accepting Squarefoot's work, the shower floor did not comply with WA State plumbing codes for minimum slope to drain. In fact the two back corners were actually level with the drain, essentially with no slope what so ever. We learned well after the contract was signed that Suarefoot's charge for the new tankless hot water heater was several times the manufacturer's cost, well beyond what one would consider fair compensation even considering permits, electrical and plumbing installation, which were actually covered in a separate line item of their bid. As a result of all this we had to cancel our out of town guests' visit and eventually we formally fired Squarefoot and prepared a line item request for refund of work not completed. Which I should note, did not include funds to correct the unacceptable work in the shower which we were forced to contract to another firm. Squarefoot's response to our request for a refund claimed that I had fabricated the dollar amounts for the various line items however I assured Squarefoot that the numbers I quoted were taken directly from their original estimate. The total was approximately $25,000.00. With no compensation requested for the disruption of an entire summer of 2023 and the interference with plans that we were assured would be of no consequence since Squarefoot would have "more than enough" time to complete everything. I sent this request for refund to Squarefoot through registered mail, which was never picked up or recognized. We finally got a response from Squarefoot after having our lawyer make contact with them. As a result, Squarefoot agreed to a monthly settlement payment of $2500.00. We have an email confirmation of his agreement over four months ago however to date we have only received $5500.00 with no indication that any payments will be forthcoming. So, I would urge you to check with the better business bureau, other Yelp reviews and take care to document interactions with this company. read more

I hired these folks 2 years ago and they and it took them 2 years to frame and hang sheet rock and texture. I wouldn't hire them to change a light bulb. Google the owner before you hire them, I didn't and that was a huge mistake. They will take every penny from you without doing the work. read more

In February of 2024, we contacted Square Foot LLC to build a Deck. We paid $27,000 to Perry Griggs (owner of the business) to get started on the construction. At first, he said that the City of Marysville was delayed in issuing permits. We are in unincorporated Lake Stevens, so Marysville would not be handling any permits...Red Flag #1. Then, he said his sub-contractor quit & he said they would not be able to do the job...but he kept our money...Red Flag #2. He said that he and his wife are flipping houses & the money is tied up in that business...Red Flag #3. We contacted him continuously to ask about returning our money since NO work was ever started. He continued to make false excuses & wrote NSF Checks that we were unable to recover from his financial institutions (have copies of checks)...Red Flag#4. We have been contacting him on a weekly basis to recover our funds since February 2024. He has a track record of taking customers' funds & not returning all of their money that they are entitled to. The stories are all shared on Google, Better Business Bureau, Yelp & Labor & Industries. He has committed fraudulent actions & if the affected customers can unite, perhaps he can no longer be in business. When I last accessed his Bond information with Washington Secretary of State, it was not in legal status. His business has legal action against him from all of the customers he has taken money from & not returned. There are also claims placed against him and/or discontinued business relationships from Paint Stores, Banks & similar businesses. I plan to bring the story to the Local News Channel so it will alert property owners & businesses to not conduct business with him...and he will go out of business. Please help me bring justice to the many homeowners & business owners who have had the poor experience & share in our financial loss. read more

Had Pj out in Jan '21 went over job, kitchen and bath renovation, not remodel. Like for like. We are now a year in, bathroom not done, roof ridge cap wrong color, window wrong color, 3x3 shower opening is an inch narrower at top compared to bottom which makes it difficult for my shower door company. Many other issues that he is refusing to address and zero communication. Needless to say I cannot recommend. read more

Brian Morgan was the lead carpenter and he took his time to make sure the job was done to our satisfaction. He was friendly and informative. When the deck was completed he left the job site clean. Everyone at Square Foot was very professional, helpful and so easy to work with during our remodel. We had both bathrooms redone. The primary bathroom was a complete remodel installing a large walk in shower. The tile work is amazing. We had carpet and LVP installed throughout the whole house. The fireplace tile was replaced and it is a true showstopper! We are very pleased with all that we had done. PJ and his team will be our first call for future projects. read more

It didn't have much for details do I called several times before PJ would return the call. Then he emailed a description of the doors that was quoted from a lumber yard that same day he finally responded. I asked about other options and never ever heard back. It's been months. I've moved on, this is not the place to waste my time and money on. read more

We had the rep out to our place to look at a project and had great reviews for the initial interactions and the initial bid was received. We then got with 3 other contractors to get other bids and it took over a month to get all the bids. When we were done we contacted Square Foot and the rep informed us that the owner raised our bid 20%, Im thinking WTH ???. When we contacted the rep to have a sit down on go over the bid and see what parts they could do and we could do after a week of waiting we got zero response. So that ended that process. read more

Not thrilled got quote in 24 hours, but they missed 3 things in the bid, I followed up with an email asking if more information was to follow? Still haven't heard anything, after a week. My opinion is unreliable spending as much as I was quoted, I will spend it with a more reliable company. read more
