The schnitzel was tender and tasty; the fries, crisp and delicious. I can't say enough about how friendly the owners and staff are. They don't speak much English, we don't speak much German, but that never gets in the way of a good time. I'm not sure why this place is labelled a "dive bar." It's not. It's a classic, cozy, family-run Kolsch restaurant with traditional food. It's delicious, affordable, and very friendly.

The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful when it came to explaining dishes that were in German on the menu. We ended up ordering the Currywurst and the cheese filled Schnitzel. WOW. They were probably the best of their kind that I've ever had. The currywurst was delicious and had just the right amount of curry in it. The schnitzel was filled with camembert cheese, cranberry sauce on the side, and a lovely fresh salad with a home made olive-oil based dressing. There were 3 of us and we were beyond full after sharing the two dishes above; the cheese filled schnitzel was sizable and very filling! If I ever am back in Cologne, I will be sure to visit this place again, and I can safely say that this was the best meal of my entire trans-Europe vacation (included Belgium, Amsterdam, and Germany) :) Thank you for the delicious food and hospitality!

We love our thai food and were expecting great things from Kittichai based on their yelp reviews…read more Unfortunately we were disappointed. We ordered take away - a duck red curry and a vegetarian pad thai. First off, always a rule if a thai place can't get a signature pad thai right there's no hope for everything else. My pad thai had spoiled brown bean sprouts all through it. The pad thai literally had 2 pieces of broccoli in the entire dish and about a ratio of 90 (noodles) / 10 (vegetables). SO bad. Also, not sure why the only vege they put through it were capsicums.... My boyfriends red curry was better but not great. Very bland red sauce and the duck was tough. In saying that, portion sizes are good, and the dine in area looks great and comfortable. We are disappointed that it wasn't a good experience for us, it felt like the chef was just lazy that night - maybe because we were a takeaway customer?

Going to an ice bar had been on my bucket list for quite a while. When I found out that there was…read moreone in Cologne, I knew it had to happen. After exploring the city for a good chunk of the day, we stopped by an hour or so before close. Here's the set-up. Before you go into the "ice bar area," you enjoy two drinks in a regular bar. Pretty much your typical standard cocktails, beer, or wine. After your pre-ice bar experience, it's time to bundle up. Ice Bar provides you with complimentary gloves and jacket. They then take you into the ice room which is as cold as it sounds. The gloves and jacket makes a difference. Don't wear shorts like I did. You spend 30 minutes at the bar. While you're there, you have two more alcoholic beverages. The options are more limited here as you can go with beer or their home-made house liqueur (three flavors). Served in a shot glass. I did one of each. What's really cool is that both the beer mug and the shot glass were made out of class. While you're enjoying your ice-cold beverages, you can check out the various ice sculptures and take pictures. While I hate the cold, and was definitely getting quite cold by the tail end of the experience, it's so unique that's it's definitely something I was glad I got to try out. Bucket list item crossed off. It's a bit pricey, as you're essentially paying for four drinks minimum, but worth it if you've never done it before. Something different for sure.
