History

Established in 1997.

Derek Sommer started Spud Software in 1997, providing simple, customized software solutions. Before long, Derek built a small team and caught the attention of the likes of General Motors and MSX International. After completing several successful large-scale projects, Spud developed a reputation for delivering high quality solutions quickly but at a much lower cost than big name software companies. Over 20 years later that reputation for excellence remains intact.

Meet the Business Owner: Derek S.

Derek Sommer founded Spud Software because of his passion for the IT industry. Before founding the company in 1997, Derek completed earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Western Michigan University, then went on to gain extensive experience working in the IT sector in several different industries, including serving as a senior systems engineer at Tier One Auto Supplier. When he's not busy with his responsibilities as a business owner, Derek can be found helping out with his wife Gretchen's non-profit organization, Lucky Day Animal Rescue, spending time with his 3 children, teaching Bible study, or enjoying an occasional rock concert.
