DO NOT GO HERE!! I went there as a new patient. The receptionist was rude, even when I said it was my first time. I saw Dr. Hutchinson, she spent all of her time with her face in her laptop. When I tried to ask her a question she told me not to interrupt her she was ordering tests (?) for me. Then, when she was going to do a breast exam on me she couldn't find a gown, I said that was OK. So, I turned around to take my top off, and she does the exam and then she left the exam room, with her laptop of course, and left the door open!! She kept coming and going in and out of the exam room, with her "sacred" laptop in her arms (um, I was bare-breasted WTF was I going to do with it??) leaving the door wide open!! I had no idea if I was supposed to wait there or not? Finally, I got up off of the exam table and got dressed, and sat there and waited for her for several minutes. And several more minutes. And then several more. Then some assistant comes in the room and says "this is your referral for the blood test." I said "What happened to Dr. Hutchinson? I have been sitting here for at least 20 minutes waiting for her." The assistant said to me "Oh, she had to make an emergency call to the radiology dept at the hospital." I said "Take a call or make a call?" She said "Make a call." I said "You have GOT to be kidding me. She couldn't say goodbye, nice to meet you, welcome to the practice before she picked up that receiver to 'make' that emergency call? You can take that referral and..." So, yeah, that was MY experience at Spruce Street Internal Medicine!!! read more

After 3 nights in the hospital they (the hospital) called to schedule a follow-up with Dr Ling (my primary), unfortunately she could not see me so the hospital scheduled me with Dr Hutchinson. I get there 15 minutes before my appointment, as requested, which was at 11:30, after weigh in and nurse checking vitals we waited 45 minutes! Dr Hutchinson was not prepared, had not read the report from the hospital and spent most of the time either with her nose in the keyboard typing or talking directly to my husband. Nor did she listen to my lungs and heart, which definitely is a standard process in my case! A complete waste of time read more

I sort of feel bad giving this place 2 stars but after some thought this is probably what they should get. Spruce Street Internal Medicine consists of 3 doctors and a P.A. and is located off of Spruce Street (who woulda thunk it). I've been having this weird sort of abdominal problem for the last 6 months and have gone to this place 3 separate occasions to try and figure out what the hell is going on. First I went to Jaime the P.A. who was nice and courteous but after 2 visits and a CAT scan couldn't give me any answers. I then went to Dr. Ling, who again couldn't help me and prescribed me Celebrex for the pain, even though that is for joint pain and might be recalled soon. The Celebrex side-effects were exponentially worse than the pain (NEVER TAKE CELEBREX) and now I am running low on pain reliever that works since she didn't want to prescribe me Vicodin again. She was obviously in a hurry, and seemed as stumped as everyone else I've talked to. It took the 2nd visit for me to get pain-reliever, and the third visit to get blood work. It's not like I enjoy going to the doctor, so I'm really not sure what the hesitation was all about. So now I'm left in the same spot I was 6 months ago: a mysterious illness which can only be helped by a heap-load of Tylenol or 1 vicodin, and continues to be detrimental to my every day living. Except of course 650 dollars poorer due to the CAT scan and the useless meds. I did go to Dr. Maiocco before who was more helpful. In any case, my girlfriend turns out has a similar sort of problem. However, on her first visit to Dr. Jennifer Christenson she got blood work, several packs of lab-stuff to check parasites and other abnormalities, some anti-spasmodic and a referral to a specialist. This is what I should have gotten as well for my condition: why I didn't I really can't say. I don't think I will be going back. read more

I called to schedule an appointment in early September to see my Primary Care Physician, Dr. Browne. I was told the earliest appointment I could get was December 4, three months away. The day of my appointment (not the week before or even a day before), her office called me to reschedule. The office offered me a Friday appointment for the same week. I took this appointment, found coverage for work (again) and planned to be seen by my doctor. Then, on Thursday morning, I was contacted by a Boulder Community Health administrator that Dr. Browne would have to reschedule my already-rescheduled appointment that I had waited three months to have. The next earliest appointment I was offered was January 24th, 2018. I understand that unexpected things come up in a doctor's life that requires even a twice-in-the-same-week cancellation. However, to be offered an appointment for almost two months after an appointment I waited three months for is offensive, indifferent, and borderline reckless. Further, in neither instance where I was contacted regarding the need to reschedule did the office think to offer for another doctor in the Spruce Street Internal Medicine group to see me sooner. I see there at least two other doctors, Dr. Stone and Dr. Ling, who work there AND a physician's assistant. That's three other medical providers who could have seen me in Dr. Browne's unforeseen absence the week of my scheduled appointment. It should not take five months to be seen by your primary care physician for your yearly appointment. While a popular restaurant might book reservations that far out, no doctor should put off someone's care for that long when they know that you want to be seen. To make the situation worse, I also did not find the staff who called me to reschedule these appointments to be particularly compassionate or sympathetic to how long I have had to wait to be seen by my physician. Essentially, they could have cared less that I haven't been able to see my doctor for such a long time and were wholly indifferent to my concerns and frustrations. I would not recommend that anyone schedule an appointment with Dr. Browne. Although she is a nice woman and good doctor, she clearly has too large of a patient load to effectively see her patients in a reasonable amount of time. It would be in the best interest of your health to find a more available doctor with a staff that actually cares about your well being. read more

On my first visit dr Anton-scnell left the room twice to take phone calls and was obsessively checking her smart watch. My second visit today, I didn't even get to a see the doctor, as she was running 90 minutes behind schedule. I wasn't informed of this until I had been waiting for 40 min, and it would be at least another 45 before she was ready to see me. Horrible bedside manner, and poor time management, and lack of communication with the staff. Maybe if she stayed off her phone, or designated time slots to return calls, she wouldn't be an hour and a half behind schedule by 330 in the afternoon. Dispatch health is a fantastic alternative to these crummy office places, they take insurance, and they'll come to your home (on time!!!) never going back. read more

I would not recommend Spruce Street to anyone. I waited (which I expected) in the waiting room for longer than my entire consultation. When I finally met with the doctor she took a brief look and said, okay, maybe you should go to another place. Then she gave me a name and I was charged for the 2 minute visit as a full physical and then some. It was ridiculous. Not only that, but after I paid (in cash), they continued to send me a bill for the the visit. I moved out of the state and tried calling them to clear it up, but nobody picked up, then they had a bill collector send me notification of my "unpaid" bill that I already paid. Nightmarish and unprofessional. I'm not sure how this place is still functioning. read more

I used to be a big fan of Spruce Street because all my experiences were great. I had no complaints about the nurses, doctors, or reception staff. However, recently things have been a bit different. I recently went in and was informed my regular doctor was no longer there. They recommended that I see Rebecca Kasperbauer, which I was happy to do. Without going into details about everything, I was very upset about the way things were handled with my appointment and follow-up. I didn't feel like Rebecca was familiar with my file each time I went to see her. I waited over a week for any sort of follow-up and the nurse that called me was giving me different information than what Rebecca gave me. I had to ask a lot of questions of Rebecca, without her giving me much information. I would say overall not great bedside manner. I will likely go back for my PCP needs, but I will be requesting another doctor. Because outside of this, I've never waited very long and scheduling has always been easy. Dr. Dawn Hutchinson has been my primary care provider there and she is a very knowledgeable and caring physician. I have been a patient of Dr. Browne for more than 20 years. She is an outstanding physician and a warm, caring person. I trust her to act swiftly when a problem could be serious. Visits never feel rushed. I'm baffled by all the super-harsh comments from online reviewers. Over the years I have experienced some bumps in the road, like not getting a same-day callback or having to wait longer than I'd like for an appointment, but nothing that seems unforgivable from a busy clinic. Using the patient portal may be more effective than relying on the phone. This office RUNS ON TIME. It's located in a very pleasant small building and has good parking. read more

I have had many primary care physicians in my time, but almost without exception, none of them ever EVER followed up with previous visits and followed through with any treated conditions. I have been a patient with Dr. Ling of Spruce Street medicine for years now and she has been great. I have been overall pleased with the care I have received at Spruce Street Internal Medicine. I have been seen by Dr. Browne for 2 years now and I think she has always been kind, patient, well informed and experienced. I really like how they use electronic medical records, and how easy it is to receive your health information to recall what was discussed in the exam. The one thing I do not like about the clinic is calling and trying to speak with the doctor. If you have any question you must first leave a message with the medical assistant who then relays the information to the doctor and back to you. The times I have spoken to the medical assistants I find they lack astuteness and people skills. I find this particular system to be inefficient because it takes at least a day to hear back after leaving the message and then more for them to speak with the doctor and communicate that information to you. If you are having a medical concern it is not handled quickly. Appointments do run on time and I feel the office does run smoothly. They were recently integrated into Boulder Community Hospital. For the most part, I haven't noticed any major changes. Overall I think this clinic does provide good care and is an above average clinic. read more

I've been a patient at Spruce Street for six years. My main contacts have been with Dr Browne and Dr Ling. The first thing that impressed me is that the office runs on time, or very close to it. Coming from a situation where the physician was an hour or more behind, this has really impressed me. Another thing that really impresses me is that the physicians really make an effort to stay up to date. Several years ago I had a condition that was actually misdiagnosed by the emergency room of a local hospital. Dr Browne was stumped -- very briefly. She figured out what needed to be done to address the condition and I quickly began to heal. With the office running on time, one might wonder about feeling rushed. I never have. Both Dr Browne and Dr Ling have given me and a family member who transferred to their care all the time needed, including hand-holding when that's been needed (I've been through breast biopsies twice). I like their emphasis on preventive care. They make sure I stay up to date with shots and, when an issue arose about a possible allergy, I was referred to a top-notch allergist immediately. Because adult onset diabetes is an issue in my family, they make sure I'm followed with appropriate lab tests and exams of my feet and circulation. One astonishing thing: my family member was not a patient at Spruce Street when first seen by Dr Ling. It was an emergency and the person's regular doc wasn't available. It turned out that he had an early case of shingles. Dr Ling immediately started him on an antibiotic (the clinic has a dispensary) and, to our complete astonishment, called a week later to check on the patient's progress. We were flabbergasted, but we've found that both Dr Ling and Dr Browne are not afraid to pick up the phone, themselves, to deliver test results or to followup. I've found the office staff to be friendly and helpful. They deal with insurance, which I appreciate, and Dr Browne's medical tech is competent and genial. Going to the doctor is one of my very least favorite things to do. In fact, I hate it. But Spruce Street minimizes the unpleasantness and I have the security of knowing that the doctors really are on top of things. I can't imagine having to go elsewhere for my primary care. read more

I've been a patient at Spruce Street Internal for several years. My current doctor is Dr. Maioccho, would is thoughtful and professional. She knows who I am and keeps track of where things left off from the last visit. Occasionally, she seems a bit rushed but that seems true with all western medicine these days. I appreciate that the office is an easy walk from my downtown office with a pleasant waiting room.The front staff isn't super-friendly, but generally polite. Basically, they seem very busy answering phones, answering questions, and moving things along. Again, that's the reality of Western medicine and insurance companies impact on it. read more

***Do not use this facility.*** Dr. Stone and their staff do not listen to their patient. Dr. Stone misdiagnosed my condition due to taking blood when I clearly stated that I just left the sauna and was dehydrated which resulted in incorrect diagnosis of a potential surgery. She called me in the evening, witness by others, to state that I needed surgery instead of medication for bone density and referred be to Dr. Fox in Boulder for a parathyroid. She referred me and got a preapproval. Due to the dehydration, I insisted in getting a second blood test, about 2.5 weeks after the blood test taken after the sauna and prior to the pre surgery meeting. The test prior to the surgery, as well as the one before the sauna blood test in Oct, were all normal. She did not have the decency to call and apologize for her mistake. She had one of her staff call instead to say I did not need to go to the pre surgery appointment with Dr. Fox. As time passed and I got another Dr, Dr. Stone's records showed that I declined the meds for osteoporosis, when in fact, Dr. Stone called me, witnessed by others at home, and said it was a misdiagnosis, no need for medication and I what I really needed surgery instead. I complained about her care with Cigna, mind you these blood tests cost between $350-$500 plus cost of the visit etc. Had I followed her diagnosis, I may have paid thousands for an unnecessary surgery. I called the office to review the record related to the Dr.'s assessment that I refused of medication which was wrong to please change it, to no avail. After 3 appointments with them I still do not have the meds. I had to switch doctors and start from scratch. Today, I received a letter from their office stating that her office will not take of me due to my hostility. Useless, they know I made the change in doctors a few weeks ago due to their incompetence, lack of apology for their error which could have resulted in an unnecessary surgery. Any reasonable person would be furious about such treatment and very glad to leave their incompetent care. read more

The worst part about them is their receptionist, I forgot her name, I think its Sandra, she is the rudest person I have encountered in Boulder. She thinks shes better than everyone and treats patients horribly. I am very seriously considering not going here anymore because of her alone. Used to be better, but now pretty bad since Boulder Hospital took them over. Rude scheduling staff and you can never get in to see your doctor, so they just hand you off to whoever is new in the current revolving door of physicians they seem to have (seriously, I've seen three different doctors over the last three appointments, none of whom knew me from Adam). If you have anything remotely time sensitive, they just tell you to go to urgent care. Looking for another PCP, but not hopeful in the current healthcare system. Anyone decent seems to rapidly get inundated to the point where they can't take new patients or conversely just ends up being unavailable to ever see you (I think that's what originally happened with Spruce Street). read more

As I was reading the review from Dustin G, I honestly had thought to myself "wait ... did I write this?" While I think Dr Ling is a nice person, I prefer a doctor who isn't going to run in, speak so quickly that I can't understand her, and then run out again. I don't even want to know how much she's getting paid by my insurance, but I'm pretty sure I should be given more than 7 minutes of her time. She is probably over booked and working too hard, but I will definitely be going to a doctor that has time to listen to what's going on. And on another note, their receptionist is a truly difficult person. It may just be a poor way of handling stress, the poor dear constantly has a phone ringing somewhere, but I could not believe how rude she was to me and the others in the waiting room. This is the absolute worst doctors office I have ever been to. I switched doctors in 2009 and started seeing Dr. Maiocco at Spruce Street. After she left, I switched to Dr. Ling. Surprisingly, after going to this office for 4 years I have never met Dr. Ling because she has never been available to see me. The last 3 times I have been sick and wanting to see a doctor, I have been given the same answer, we can see you tomorrow afternoon. Aren't doctors offices supposed to allot a certain amount of appointments to sick patients? Since I am calling first thing in the morning, I am 100% sure that Spruce Street is not. The past three times I have needed to be seen the office has suggested I wait until tomorrow or go to the ER or Urgent Care... The front office is absolutely horrible, making me hold for 30 minutes to set an appointment... I'm fine with seeing a different PA each time I need to see the doctor but telling me that I can't be seen for 24/48 hours when I am sick is not appropriate for a facility that I am supposed to trust with my health. I would stay far from this practice and find someone in Boulder that actually knows how to run a doctors office. read more

I was a new patient of Dr. Dawn Hutchinson and had seen her once. At the beginning of January, I severely injured my lower back and ended up at the ER. I dutifully scheduled my follow up appointment with Dr. Hutchinson. The back pain was so intense that I could barely walk, hadn't slept more than an hour at a time, and had found no relief. Dr. Hutchinson never looked up from her keyboard except to say to me, "I'm not giving you pain medication." As I began sobbing from fear of enduring this pain longer, she handed me a referral for physical therapy and left the room. She never comforted nor tried to help me, and showed no compassion. NONE. I was in my most vulnerable state coming to my doctor for help and was treated like garbage. To drive the final nail in my coffin, the notes about my visit that she so furiously typed while I was convulsing in pain are COMPLETELY INACCURATE and paint me in a terrible light. These are the people we trust with our care? NEVER AGAIN. I cannot make my warning strong enough: do not consider Dawn Hutchinson as your doctor. read more

My daughter saw Kasperbauer at this clinic. She suddenly lost a ton of weight. Looking at our family medical history, we had her tested for Thyroid issues. The test came back negative but she was still loosing weight. Kasperbauer did nothing else except tell my daughter that she may need to see a therapist ( as in she has an eating disorder). Guess what??? I took her to the emergency room and they referred her to a GI doctor. She has Celiac disease. I would never recommend Kasperbauer to anyone. Something as simple as Celiac and she didn't test her for it. Totally subpar for a doctor not to catch that. Go somewhere else. Kasperbauer is not qualified to do medicine. read more

I've been through many doctors trying to find out what's wrong with my internal pain. I've gotten ultrasounds and CT scans and no answers. I thought this place would maybe finally give me answers considering it's for INTERNAL medicine. Wrong. Even after I described to the doctor my situation, she merely asked me some questions, poked at my belly for not even 30 seconds, decided she didn't know what was wrong, and referred me to a list of other offices. She didn't even refer me to a specific person. She didn't even TRY to care about my situation. I am a college student tired of spending so much money on doctors appointments and today was about the biggest waste of money yet. If you want my humble opinion, don't go here. It may make no sense to give the practice one star and then continue to go there, but I will NOT give up Kathryn Johnson EVER. The other doctors are also wonderful, but Kathryn is a whole different level of incredible and I have so much respect and admiration for her that I am willing (for now) to endure how AWFUL the rest of the office staff has been to me. It started in July last with a $700 bill out of the blue with no explanation of what it was. I found out it was from a procedure I had in JANUARY and they just got around to billing me. The office person promised me that they were going to contact the insurance company because it was something that should have been covered. Well, shame on me for believing her because in October I got a notice from a collection agency who had already reported to all three credit bureaus! I have exceptional credit and was devestated by this. The other posters are right: nobody will call you back in that office. I tried reaching Terri Davis for weeks and she refused to call me back. When I finally reached her she was incredibly rude and abrupt, told me that it was essentially my fault that this had happened and was absolutely NO help. It wasn't until I contacted a lawyer that Terri said she would send me a letter on their letterhead stating that this was their mistake and not mine so that I could try to repair my credit. I waited 10 days for the promised letter and when I called Terry after that time passed and no letter, I had the same experience: she refused to call me back and it was another 2 weeks before I was able to speak to her. She told me that she had sent the letter and it must have gotten lost in the mail. Huh? I eventually got a very brief, terse letter stating that it was indeed their fault, but you know what I NEVER got? An apology. So, I LOVE the doctors but have no use for the rest of the staff. Their billing system is obviously in chaos, they do not return calls and when they do, they are rude and condescending. If only Kathryn would dump these losers and go somewhere else. :-) read more

I visited Dr. Browne and found the whole experience humiliating and degrading. I had previously had some blood tests (by several MDs) which found I had immune issues at a very complex levels but she kept referring to the costs of the tests as if somehow, though they provided useful information, I was stupid to have done them or to have consulted doctors when I was ill. She seemed almost contemptuous of me and my efforts to get to the bottom of a complicated situation. I have had thoughtful and helpful doctors, and her arrogance seemed unwarranted. read more

I'm a patient at Spruce St.-- just wanted to write in about the great service I've received there. The waiting room is always clean and the front office people are friendly. The medical staff actually seems to care about the patients. I usually see Dr. Browne. She has a great bedside manner and never makes me feel rushed. I've also seen other members of the staff during times when I haven't had an appointment and they managed to work me in. They all seem very knowledgeable and competent. I would not recommend anyone go to this clinic for any reason. The office manager is borderline negligent and business is not conducted in professional manner. I have seen at least three different doctors here, not by choice but since my primary care provider could not be bothered. If they can pass you along to another BCH facility that will generate more income for the hospital they will. read more

I do not recommend Spruce St Internal medicine at all. Every time I go there, the physician (I have seen Dr. Ling the most) acts extremely rushed and like I am a nuisance. When I went in to get the HPV vaccine, no one at the office informed me that it was a series of 3 shots. When I found out from friends and family that it was and went in to get my second shot, Spruce St ACCIDENTLY gave me the tetanus booster instead! Even though the nurse realized what she'd done right after I left, they waited until the NEXT DAY to call me and tell me their mistake. It's disgraceful and unacceptable. Seeing that I only go to the dr once a year, I stupidly stayed with Spruce St. until recently when I moved to Portland. When I called Spruce St. to get a current prescription called into my new pharmacy they wanted to charge me $35 because the new pharmacy is out of state. RIDICULOUS. This place has made me angry every step of the way and I am only kicking myself for giving them as many chances as I did. read more

I have read some of the reviews of recent and could not disagree more with the negative comments. I have been a patient at Spruce Street for years and have appreciated all of the wonderful care they have given me over the years. Firstly, they are a very busy office and perhaps busy-ness has been misconstrued as rude. My husband was waiting in the waiting room one day and could not believe how busy they are!! But I feel like they are doing their best to accommodate the patient's needs. They did have problems with their billing for a few months but only because they were using an outside agency. From what I understand they are now billing the accounts themselves. I myself had problems with a bill but Terri, administrator, took care of it immediately! She was professional, kind and seems to be dedicated to making Spruce Street the best it can be. I have already seen improvements!! I would recommend Spruce Street to anyone!!
