We all had keg Doombar but that was also poor as though the cleanliness was not good. We should have walked out but due to many places being closed on Mondays we moved to the dining area. Awful, food, the pies were served in premade dishes and heated up. The accompanying vegetable were cold and stewed. It was noticeable we only saw 1 person who was barman then served all the food, probably also was microwaving the pies. Such a shame this once great pub has been so neglected and its reputation will be trashed.

First impression is the delicious smell of good food and the wood burning heater that was nice and warm on a chilly day. The menu is a good range of traditional pub fare (burgers, cottage pie, sausage and mash) and the more unusual (Roquefot, spinach and pear salad with raspberry dressing). We went for the fantastic value lunchtime deal of £8.95 for a starter and main from a selection of the menu, two of us had the spicy vegetable soup with two big chunks of fresh bread each to start (thick, fresh and not too spicy to scare the in-laws!) and two had potato skins which come with guacamole and salsa or bacon and sour cream (the bacon comes as freshly cooked rashers not some horrible diced up processed mixture). For our mains we had a burger and huge chunky chips (the burger unfortunately was very overcooked), cottage pie, gravy & veg (it looked lovely) and I had the cherry tomato cassoulet with haloumi which was absolutely gorgeous. The waiting staff are friendly and attentive enough without being annoying or intrusive. My only complaint was the drinks, I had a diet coke which was foul. It tasted really cheap and nasty like own brand supermarket coke.

For mains I had shoulder of lamb with roasted cauliflower and potatoes, and it was well cooked and tasty. I finished with a local baked cheese and bread which I shared with my wife. A glass of port to finish. There were a few cask ales to choose from too, and in top condition. Service was excellent, and certainly with a smile.
