Platinum Elite member here, and this was one of the worst Marriott stays I've had -- especially disappointing for a downtown property that should set the standard. Room 235 had a brick wall view, mold and mildew in the shower, and a strong odor. I requested towels, toiletries, and help with a freezing TV at check-in. Despite multiple confirmations in the Marriott app, nothing was delivered until 30 minutes before checkout, which made it useless. When I asked for a late checkout, the staff finally responded on my departure day with: "Ms. Harris, yes your checkout is today. We can extend to no later than 1pm." It felt like I was inconveniencing them just for asking -- even though late checkout is a Platinum benefit. This hotel failed in cleanliness, service, responsiveness, and loyalty recognition. Marriott Downtown locations should showcase the brand's best -- this one completely missed the mark.

The location is perfect. Very close to The Legacy Museum, dining, bars, and the Riverfront. Check in was a let down. Our room was not ready until approximately 5:50pm so this pushed back the rest of our evening which I was hoping to avoid since myself and 9 others were in town for the Selma to Montgomery relay race. We had an early morning wake up to get to the starting line. I made a reservation for 3 people but we only had enough towels and wash cloths in our room for 2 people. Since the phone in our room didn't work, I had to go down to the front desk to request towels. The upside was they had the readily available and we didn't have to wait for them to be delivered to our room. The mini fridge and microwave was put to good use and I appreciated the ice machine on the 4th floor. The morning of our race, the front desk attendant was gracious enough to get us hot water to make cups of tea to go. Thank you!!!!! As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I earned a few thousand points so I would stay here again.

It's a great location in a historical building with cool architectural details. I don't think there are any rooms in this hotel that look exactly the same. The developer in charge of the renovation of this space actually worked with historians to preserve the historical features. I was blown away by the amount of sunlight coming from these enormous red brick windows. The coolest part is that the high ceilings have wood beams, and reach a height of about 16 feet. I reserved a single King Suite with a river view (Room 410). It was a very spacious room! There's a microwave and a refrigerator to the right when you first walk into the room. There's a Keurig coffee machine near the flat screen TV. Everything looked modern and new. The furnishings are from West Elm. The bathroom was clean and bright. There are bath gel, shampoo, and conditioner wall dispensers that are conveniently located in the shower stall. They have blackout window curtains that work almost too well. The room gets super dark with the high ceiling. There was a MGM Biscuits playoff game the first night I was there, and the curtains totally blocked out the huge LED field lighting. As for sound, I think I may have heard the train horn faintly in the background once or twice. I normally wear earplugs, but I never had to use them the entire time I stayed at this hotel. The room also stayed cool the entire time. I never had to adjust the temperature. The hotel staff were all friendly & helpful. Checking in was a breeze. Typically check-in time is at 4:00 pm. I arrived early, but fortunately my room was ready. Breakfast is included with your room fee. It's more like a continental breakfast with a few hot breakfast options. You can make your own waffle, or get some scrambled eggs and bacon. I'd say it was an average breakfast. I wanted to give a 5 star review, but unfortunately I didn't get any housekeeping services. The reservation confirmation said that guests will receive housekeeping every other day. I stayed there for 3 nights and didn't get that service. They did set me up with 3 sets of towels, and I'm grateful for that. Other than that, it was a beautiful and comfortable stay. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay at this hotel in the future.

Trundle bed in room 225--2 room suite, 2 queen room

I've wanted to stay in this hotel for a while because I appreciate that they maintained the original structure and share the history of the building. The rooms have character and are unique. We were lucky and had room 225 and 325. Both had the look of the image used for 2 room suite, 2 Queen(s), Trundle bed. I kinda disagree with the two-room description because there wasn't a door separating the rooms. But, you can't see each other without walking around a wall that is the width of the large bathroom. Both rooms had TVs. The pictures on the Marriott website don't seem to reflect the massive ceiling height we had in our room. I hope mine help. I didn't valet my car and the valet attendant pointed me to a parking garage across from the stadium for Montgomery Biscuits. It was a couple minute walk and $6 per exit from the garage--so easy. When I looked out my window, I saw one entry to The Alley. There isn't a restaurant or bar in the hotel, but you can walk across the street and enjoy one of the many restaurants and bars in The Alley. There are so many options in the blocks surrounding the restaurant. I did have a little trouble finding a meal at 8:45pm on a Thursday night. Every restaurant in the area was closing at 9pm and I ended up ordering on DoorDash. During the week, you need to plan on being at a restaurant by 8pm. It's a great spot with hotel rooms that you won't find anywhere else. There are Historic Markers and Museums that you pass in loop of the area next to the hotel. We were there for a few days and I don't have a negative thing to say. Well, I heard a little creaking from the room above when they walked, but it actually added charm to our wonderful visit.

Closet clearly wasn't cleaned, random wire hanger and cord to iron wasn't put up correctly (not pictured)

Room wasn't very clean upon check in, which was communicated to housekeeping. This morning I found a cockroach on the bathroom floor! I was supposed to stay an additional night, but immediately packed my stuff in I check out. The assistant manager told me that I could change rooms and I told her "no, because the reviews mentioned the building having roaches". I told her that I'm allergic to roaches and that I couldn't stay. (Additionally, cockroaches are a health safety issue!). The assistant manager told me that I would still be charged for the night that I wouldn't be staying. I emailed the general manager and I'm awaiting a response. I will never stay here and wouldn't recommend it. Dirty room and roaches, completely unacceptable!

This is the ceiling. They used all reclaimed wood in the renovations.

This hotel was by far the most original one we have stayed in. The history behind it is very interesting. The location is awesome. All the wood used in the rooms was reclaimed from the building it self. There is a marble staircase in the hotel as well. It's simply beautiful.

This seemingly brand new hotel/converted warehouse is a gem. As an Ambassador Elite, I spend way too many nights (100+/yr) at Marriott properties and this one stacks up against them all! This hotel is located a block from downtown and two blocks from the Riverwalk. It is conveniently located directly across the street from the Legacy Museum (very impressive as well). Tip: try and stay in a room with the 20' ceilings and authentic wood beams throughout. The rooms are tastefully decorated with art indigenous to the Montgomery area. And the front desk check in was extremely smooth by the talented and friendly Maya.

Perfect if you like to explore without having to drive everywhere. Rooms & Comfort: The rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable--giving that elevated hotel experience. It's a great place to unwind after a long day out. Service: Overall, the staff is friendly and welcoming, giving that Southern hospitality feel many guests appreciate. Extras: The rooftop bar is definitely a highlight--great atmosphere, nice views, and a perfect spot to grab a drink and relax. Only thing missing that I would have loved was a pool or jacuzzi. Here's our experience. 1) Check-In: It's easy to book and check in was a breeze. There were enough staff and they move efficiently. 2) Rooms: I was in Room 119 on the ground floor. It's a more small room, but the high ceiling made it look bigger. The room comes with a more spacious bathroom. There's ample closest space, an iron, a safe, coffee maker, and complimentary water bottles. 3) Amenities: There's no pool, but there's a sizable gym, lobby with bookcases and murals, a restaurant, and rooftop bar. If you go to the rooftop bar, it may be confusing to get a seat. We went two different nights to an empty bar and both times the servers were hesitant to seat us. 4) Area: It's downtown and walkable to many museums, but there aren't as many good bars and restaurants in the area.

It was the most luxurious of the three hotels in the program. Photos shown include our room 317. The room included two queen beds, a reasonably large desk, a door to an adjoining room, two religious literature (a Gideons' Holy Bible, and The Book of Mormon) in the nightstand, ample closet space, and "high-tech" light switches that required some head-scratching to use them. The bathroom had both a bathtub and a shower stall. I used the latter. The bed pillows were fluffier than those of Hyatt Place Atlanta/Buckhead, so I needed just one to sleep on. I had to contact front desk and maintenance staff for a "Do Not Disturb" sign as the room did not have one. Sadly, it did not prevent room service from entering the room the next day to make the beds and re-fluff the pillows. My sleep was not impacted but my impression of the overall service was. On the first night, our group went to a private room for dinner. We walked from one end (where our rooms were) to the other end of the hotel. Food was catered in-house as evidence by the serving staff in their hotel uniforms. On both mornings, we had breakfast at The House. It was buffet style with plenty of choices and plentiful in volume. Since we had coupons, we didn't have to pay a cent. However, I didn't give my coupon to the waiters both times and still ate for free. But I sat with my fellow group members so it wasn't an issue. For second day's dinner, I ordered mozzarella sticks to go from The House. It was pricier than I would like, but it kept me fed. There was only one laundry room and it was located on the second floor. It was free of charge but access to the room required the room key. I did my laundry on the morning of the second day. Did not have any issues with the washer or the dryer. It was nice of the hotel to provide a small lounging area just outside the laundry room where I waited until my laundry's done. The laundry room had two microwaves. Don't ask me why they were there. I'd have put them where the vending machines and the ice machines are. I did not try the spa. There wasn't sufficient time and the high price tag was enough reason not to. Nor did I patronize the performing arts venue adjoining the hotel. But there were plenty of lounging areas throughout the first and second floors. The one that I used for a private Zoom meeting was on the second floor, and had plenty of distance away from foot traffic for a reasonable expectation of privacy. If it was entirely up to me, I would not choose the Renaissance. It's out of my price range and I can easily find less expensive choices nearby. However, the stay was mostly pleasant especially when covered by the tour program. If you're willing to pay the price, it's worth it.

The room was wonderful. Very, very quiet. I never heard any of my neighbors or any traffic in the hallway. This has to be one of the quietest rooms I've ever stayed in, anywhere. It was clean upon arrival, and there were no weird smells or other oddities. One ding that made the stay much less bearable was the "smart" thermostat. Kudos to the chain for wanting to do something green and eco friendly, but seriously? Putting a smart thermostat in the living room? During the night, regardless of how you set it, it will go back to "away" mode. And of course, if you put it in the bedroom, it won't notice traffic in the living room. I enjoy sleeping in a cooler room, like 67 or so. Going to bed with the thermostat set to that and waking up to 73 was not enjoyable in the least. Once I figured out the trick, if I had to get up for a midnight run to the john, I'd give the thermostat some "activity" and all was good then. I enjoy having the fan running all night for white noise. The HVAC had this ability, but it was so quiet, it wasn't really worth it. Not a big deal though, since the room was pretty darn quiet overall. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Never ran out, never had low pressure. The pillows were all super soft. I'm seeing a trend with this. Seems like every stay I've had recently in hotels has featured soft pillows. Attention, hotel chains! Some of us like a firmer pillow. Mix it up maybe? With 4 pillows on the bed, maybe make 2 soft and two a bit more on the firm side? Plenty of outlets including USB ports, too. Super nice touch there. Since this was a Homewood Suites, there was a full sized fridge/freezer in the room, along with a microwave, stove, dishwasher, and kitchen sink. A set of utensils, plates, and glasses were also available. If you were staying here long term, you wouldn't have to go out to eat every night. The breakfast was good, no complaints there at all. The hotel has an outdoor pool, gym, and there are printers available. There's also a little barbecue area near the pool and an outside fireplace that appeared to be gas. One of the elevators needed a little maintenance, as the floor was damaged and needed to be replaced. There was also some minor repair needed in my room, with a towel hook falling off the wall and a leaking faucet in the tub/shower. There are definitely plenty of places to eat nearby. For longer term stays, shopping spots as well. Overall, the say was quite pleasant. I'd stay here again anytime.
