As a longtime Hilton Honors member, I was extremely disappointed with my stay at DoubleTree Montgomery. Despite booking a week in advance and checking in via the app, I arrived after midnight to find no room assigned to me. I waited two hours while the front desk staff, on FaceTime with their off-site manager, tried to find an "out-of-service" room for me. When we finally got a room, it was dirty--hair in the shower, leftover items from the previous guest, and clearly not cleaned to Hilton standards. After asking for late checkout due to the delay, I was initially denied and only given an extra hour after a frustrating conversation. Housekeeping even entered the room early, claiming they didn't know it was occupied. Overall, this stay was unacceptable, and I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone looking for good service and cleanliness.

This hotel is a glorified Motel 6. This is the worst hotel I've ever visited. The lobby is the best disguise the hotel has. Once you leave the desk, you find or the truth about this place. The decor is dated. They have not upgraded one thing in the hotel since it probably opened. The hotel has a score of 3.5 stars it does not deserve. The correct score should be 1.5 stars. For this hotel to be in the downtown area, it does not offer any benefits for anyone who stays with them. The price they charge is not worth what you get in return for staying with them. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to go. This place is completely not worth it.

Property is centrally located near downtown, but is in need of interior repair. Staff is polite and friendly.

Cat torn curtains (not sure how they didn't notice this)

Doubletree nope not even close to standards. 1st room they put us (517) smelled like mildew and had cat torn curtains (seriously it looked like a cat shredded it). 2nd room they puts us us in (412) smelled way better but bed bumper at end of bed kept falling off, (yep bruises galore), phone didn't work, light in bathroom was flickering so bad I felt like I was getting ready to have a seizure ( I don't have epilepsy), light on left side of bed was flickering and bottom of bathroom door was peeling so bad. Shower curtain was dirty at the bottom (brown). And we had to pay to park. Didn't think it was on website but you had to click on parking to find out it was 14.00 per day. Will I stay at ANY DoubleTree again, nope it ruined it for that hotel. Called corporate and they told us to settle it ourselves. WHAT, really. Was not cheap and paid 464.00 on this room for 2 days.

My note to housekeeping so that the next guest's stay wouldn't be as horrible.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel two nights ago. We booked it by phone with Hilton. We're Hilton Honors members and have been for years so we stay at Hilton properties whenever possible. We arrived at the Montgomery Doubletree at 6pm and were told that our room wasn't ready that it would be 30 minutes. The front desk receptionist gave us two drink vouchers. She also brought cookies. She was doing her best to keep us happy. She was wonderful. We had our clothes on a luggage cart and wheeled it to the bar which wasn't ideal, but another shining light here, like the receptionist, was the bartender who wasn't doing damage control, but was also wonderful. Over an hour later we were told that our suite was ready. We found the room and the door was ajar which is something I've never seen. I walked inside ahead of my husband and found all of the drawers and cabinets in the kitchen open. The sight of it was very creepy. In retrospect I shouldn't have walked in at all. This is a suite with a full kitchen but the drawers and cabinets were not only wide open but also empty. Should guests bring their own dishes? Cutlery? Pots and pans? It wouldn't have mattered to me because we didn't plan to use it, however it does beg the question. The bed was partially made. The window overlooking downtown Montgomery was cloudy. The countertops and sink weren't wiped down. The remote control was broken and missing a battery. The stove light didn't work. We called the receptionist and asked to be moved and were told that there were no other rooms available but if the pillows were on the bedside tables then the bedding was clean. The pillows were stacked on the tables and the sheets looked clean. The bathroom appeared to be clean and we had fresh towels so we agreed to stay under the condition of a late checkout. Our late checkout wasn't documented which was obvious by housekeeping knocking on our door early, but was granted by the manager who gave us two hours which is SHOCKING considering that we got a pretty late check-in which he agreed was unacceptable. After all was said and done the manager gave us half off our room which didn't include taxes. I'm 57 and my husband is 65. We've been married for 30 years and agreed that this is the absolute worst experience we've ever had in a hotel. We were loyal brand members to Hilton but will not be moving forward. Everything about this was surprising but what shocks me most is that the manager of this property had the opportunity to make this right and didn't. I understand that s*it happens, however the way this was handled is unacceptable. I believe that Hilton should have refunded this room completely after our first phone call instead of two phone calls and half off before taxes. Bad business. Do not stay here.

Please do not check in at this hotel. My husband and I recently had to leave because we couldn't let our kids touch anything! Bed was made, but with dirty sheets, stains, crumbs, furniture was old and damaged, bugs, and the tub was absolutely disgusting. Icing on the cake was that our toddler left her tablet in our hustle to get out, and in just a few hours management said it was gone. To make matters worse, Hilton said to file a police report rather than giving us points or anything to comp the $200 tablet. This hotel is a huge fail, and y'all please don't go there!! I can't give negative stars, or I would.

Meal had to be trashed because the fridge didn't work!

In July 2025, my family held a reunion in Montgomery, Alabama. During our stay at the DoubleTree Hotel from June 12-15, we experienced several issues. I reached out to Mr. Christopher J. Nassetta of the DoubleTree Hotel in Montgomery with my concerns via email. As of today, September 25, 2025, I have not received a response.

    Hotel bug

This hotel has bugs and terrible management. I checked in late Thursday night, woke up to realize there was a bug climbing my curtains. I immediately called the front desk and checked out of the room. Management wasn't on property around 8:30a and front desk promised they would contact me. They did not, I reached out several times and they could not be bothered to resolve this issue. As a gold member, I expect better service but they offered no resolution. Do not book here!!

Here's our experience. 1) Check-In: It's easy to book and check in was a breeze. There were enough staff and they move efficiently. 2) Rooms: I was in Room 119 on the ground floor. It's a more small room, but the high ceiling made it look bigger. The room comes with a more spacious bathroom. There's ample closest space, an iron, a safe, coffee maker, and complimentary water bottles. 3) Amenities: There's no pool, but there's a sizable gym, lobby with bookcases and murals, a restaurant, and rooftop bar. If you go to the rooftop bar, it may be confusing to get a seat. We went two different nights to an empty bar and both times the servers were hesitant to seat us. 4) Area: It's downtown and walkable to many museums, but there aren't as many good bars and restaurants in the area.

It was the most luxurious of the three hotels in the program. Photos shown include our room 317. The room included two queen beds, a reasonably large desk, a door to an adjoining room, two religious literature (a Gideons' Holy Bible, and The Book of Mormon) in the nightstand, ample closet space, and "high-tech" light switches that required some head-scratching to use them. The bathroom had both a bathtub and a shower stall. I used the latter. The bed pillows were fluffier than those of Hyatt Place Atlanta/Buckhead, so I needed just one to sleep on. I had to contact front desk and maintenance staff for a "Do Not Disturb" sign as the room did not have one. Sadly, it did not prevent room service from entering the room the next day to make the beds and re-fluff the pillows. My sleep was not impacted but my impression of the overall service was. On the first night, our group went to a private room for dinner. We walked from one end (where our rooms were) to the other end of the hotel. Food was catered in-house as evidence by the serving staff in their hotel uniforms. On both mornings, we had breakfast at The House. It was buffet style with plenty of choices and plentiful in volume. Since we had coupons, we didn't have to pay a cent. However, I didn't give my coupon to the waiters both times and still ate for free. But I sat with my fellow group members so it wasn't an issue. For second day's dinner, I ordered mozzarella sticks to go from The House. It was pricier than I would like, but it kept me fed. There was only one laundry room and it was located on the second floor. It was free of charge but access to the room required the room key. I did my laundry on the morning of the second day. Did not have any issues with the washer or the dryer. It was nice of the hotel to provide a small lounging area just outside the laundry room where I waited until my laundry's done. The laundry room had two microwaves. Don't ask me why they were there. I'd have put them where the vending machines and the ice machines are. I did not try the spa. There wasn't sufficient time and the high price tag was enough reason not to. Nor did I patronize the performing arts venue adjoining the hotel. But there were plenty of lounging areas throughout the first and second floors. The one that I used for a private Zoom meeting was on the second floor, and had plenty of distance away from foot traffic for a reasonable expectation of privacy. If it was entirely up to me, I would not choose the Renaissance. It's out of my price range and I can easily find less expensive choices nearby. However, the stay was mostly pleasant especially when covered by the tour program. If you're willing to pay the price, it's worth it.

The room was wonderful. Very, very quiet. I never heard any of my neighbors or any traffic in the hallway. This has to be one of the quietest rooms I've ever stayed in, anywhere. It was clean upon arrival, and there were no weird smells or other oddities. One ding that made the stay much less bearable was the "smart" thermostat. Kudos to the chain for wanting to do something green and eco friendly, but seriously? Putting a smart thermostat in the living room? During the night, regardless of how you set it, it will go back to "away" mode. And of course, if you put it in the bedroom, it won't notice traffic in the living room. I enjoy sleeping in a cooler room, like 67 or so. Going to bed with the thermostat set to that and waking up to 73 was not enjoyable in the least. Once I figured out the trick, if I had to get up for a midnight run to the john, I'd give the thermostat some "activity" and all was good then. I enjoy having the fan running all night for white noise. The HVAC had this ability, but it was so quiet, it wasn't really worth it. Not a big deal though, since the room was pretty darn quiet overall. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Never ran out, never had low pressure. The pillows were all super soft. I'm seeing a trend with this. Seems like every stay I've had recently in hotels has featured soft pillows. Attention, hotel chains! Some of us like a firmer pillow. Mix it up maybe? With 4 pillows on the bed, maybe make 2 soft and two a bit more on the firm side? Plenty of outlets including USB ports, too. Super nice touch there. Since this was a Homewood Suites, there was a full sized fridge/freezer in the room, along with a microwave, stove, dishwasher, and kitchen sink. A set of utensils, plates, and glasses were also available. If you were staying here long term, you wouldn't have to go out to eat every night. The breakfast was good, no complaints there at all. The hotel has an outdoor pool, gym, and there are printers available. There's also a little barbecue area near the pool and an outside fireplace that appeared to be gas. One of the elevators needed a little maintenance, as the floor was damaged and needed to be replaced. There was also some minor repair needed in my room, with a towel hook falling off the wall and a leaking faucet in the tub/shower. There are definitely plenty of places to eat nearby. For longer term stays, shopping spots as well. Overall, the say was quite pleasant. I'd stay here again anytime.
