He is very kind, understanding and truly cares about me. In 2015 I lost my oldest daughter to an overdose , then in 2017 I also lost my oldest son, same way. Dr. Berkowitz helped me to get through this, he told me I'll never get over it but I've mamanged to be able to live and enjoy my life with my 3 other children and 4 granddaughters. I was on the verge of sucide! Dr. Berkowitz truly showed me compassion and sympathy. He actually took the time to talk to me and to tell me that my other children and granddaughters deserved to have a Mother that wasn't crying and sad all the time because that hurt them and they were also suffering from the loss of their siblings. I had to be strong enough to keep my family together. They needed me. Also advised me to get to grief groups, which I do go to and it helps tremendously knowing that I'm not the only one in this terrible and painful position. I love him, he is an awesome and caring Dr. He actually took the time to talk to me, when other Dr.'s just write prescriptions and rush you out. I'm very upset because he is retiring, but I'm also happy for him.I pray that I can find another Dr. that can fill his shoes, I know that I will miss him trmendously! He told me although he is retiring I can call him anytime if I needed to talk, he gave me his personal cell phone number. Doctor Russell Ferstandig saved my life. This is a powerful and true statement. I was addicted to…read moreopiates, and was putting myself in dangerous situations, doc shopping etc to get what I needed. I was 100% convinced I didnt have the strength, courage or will power to stop taking opiates. That all changed September 7, 2014, my 1st meeting with Doctor Russ. He immediately put me at ease, spent well over 2 hours understanding my situation, and discussing his process and care he will provide to safely get me off opiates forever. I knew I had finally found the right Doctor as he genuinely cares about his patients and goes to "above and beyond" to ensure their success in overcoming addiction. I had met with 3 different, highly rated Doctors in NYC, who spent 10 minutes with me, prescribed Suboxone, with no further instructions or counseling. Each time I relapsed, and fell further into my addiction Doctor Russ explained his process, and the importance of following it for a successful outcome. Additionally he educated me on Suboxone and how and when to consume for ideal results. He coupled medicine with counseling, which was the key to his success rates. He is very humble, and doesnt share that he has the highest success rates with no relapses. He cares more about helping you understand and overcome the reason that lead to your addiction. As our sessions continued he prescribed and anti-depressant as I was in denial of how much my depression was sabotaging my life. Dr,…read moreRoth provided years of great care to both of my parents, until my Dad was entering the last stage of dementia. Upon advice from a geriatric psychiatrist, I opted to have my Dad transferred to the psych unit to buy us time to time to find a nursing home, as we were no longer capable of providing the kind o care he needed at home. Dr. Roth wanted to release my Dad to com home. Furthermore, there was a breakdown of communication between Dr. Roth and the geriatric psychiatrist - and my Dad suffered. Because of their lack of discussion, my Dad ended up having his anti-depressant "drop off" the hospital's med list - thus, his anti-depressant was stopped cold-turkey. I left multiple messages with Dr. Roth, and those messages went unreturned. When I had the gall to call Dr. Roth on his cell phone in panicked state, not knowing what else to do, I was scolded and told not to use that phone number (this was a few days after he provided me with his cell number). The end result left me feeling like I dared to listen to and take another doctor's advice, so Dr. Roth washed his hands of my Dad. Before this experience, I had an extremely high opinion of Dr. Roth. After this experience, I don't feel that it is in my Mom's best interest to continue being seen by Dr. Roth, and am in the process of transferring her medical care. I have no faith that, in a similar situation, Dr. Roth wouldn't do the same again. Horrible way to end years and years. Extremely disappointed.
