It costs less because they are not licensed and probably not paid well. I'm a massage therapist, and I was hurting, and desperately needed a massage now, so I went here. The facility is dark and not inviting, the female "massage therapists" were wearing heels and gemstone shirts, not usual attire for a massage therapist. The language barrier creates an environment lacking appropriate communication to get your needs met, if you are actually looking for specific, serious body work. You are just guided to a dingy room without meeting your massage therapist and when a man walked in I said no, female please, it took a while but when they figured it out a female came in and began, again, not asking for specific needs or if I had any injuries or areas to avoid. The massage was rough and she used elbows on the back of my neck, I love deep tissue but this hurt and took weeks after to stop hurting. I lived in Asia and studied massage there, I understand that it is done differently but this was not safe. After I asked to see the CAMTC (license) of the "massage therapist", as I did not believe the woman that worked on me had actual training, I was met with a lot of confusion and no one spoke English. Legally in Grass Valley all massage therapists must have their original license and photo displayed (not photo copies). It appeared that none of the 5 staff doing massage there had a license. Honestly the whole experience felt yucky, like I was supporting something inappropriate by spending my money here. read more

My daughter and I purchased the 70 Min body massage. Our services were done at the same time in a very private quiet room. The services were excellent. I did put in a request to have a female therapist, and there was no questions asked. I made an appointment for two, requesting to be worked on by women for a 90 minute combo massage. When I got there, there was some language barrier but it was fine and sorted quickly. My girlfriend and I were put in the first room, given no instructions. I asked if they wanted our clothes off but she said no. So they worked on our heads, feet, then arms. Afterwards they had us remove our tops and lay on our stomach. The room has a large curtain and no door and is right by the entrance. I personally didn't care if people could see in because I was lying face down. While facing up, I was fully clothed. So if you're shy and don't want people to see your skin, maybe you can request a different room. Now let's talk about the massage itself....AMAZING. 90 minutes for $70 like WHAT???? They were thorough and used hot stones which were very relaxing. They even wipe off the oils they apply using a hot towel. I made sure to tip 50% because the massage itself was THAT GOOD. I received four hand for my birthday and they asked me if I would like strong massage or mild. I asked for a strong one and the next day I had bruises and I couldn't hug to anyone. But I liked it a lot! It's a very different technique and very active massage. In the end I wanted to give tips but they find it little so we gave more tips, it was kinda weird. A great value and a high quality massage! I received the combo back/foot massage and it was well worth the money. The only complaint I had was that the process was a bit confusing: they had me lie down on a massage table fully clothed while they did the foot massage, then at the mid point they had me sit up and take off my clothes for the back massage, but weren't super clear about which items to take off, and they had different instructions for others I was there with, so it was a bit complicated. But once I got settled I was very happy with the back massage as well - in the future I'll probably skip the foot part and do a back/shoulder massage for the whole time. My experience with Steven was fantastic. I'm from San Francisco and am in town visiting. It's been a stressful period. To find massage of this quality in a small town was amazing. Steven worked all of my problem areas. He used hot stones and warm towels. He removed lotion after working different muscles. I understood this to mean "did I phone in for an appointment" to which I said "No." She got on the phone with someone, had me speak with the person on the phone, who told me I had to call for an appointment. I was given a business card with the phone number and escorted out the door. This walk-in did not feel very welcomed. I won't be going back. What a freaking disaster! The phone number apparently goes to the owners house because she's the only one that speaks English. Nobody in the actual spa speaks English. So, I make an appointment for a 30 minute chair massage. The gal takes my name, so far so good. I get there on time and they have no freaking idea why I'm there! I explain that I have a 30 minute chair appointment and give them my name, even spelling it out. Chaos ensues. A full 10 minutes after my appointment was to have started I got fed up and started to leave. At that point one of the women literally grabbed my arm and led me to a table room. After I wrenched my arm out of her grasp I grabber HER and led her out to the lobby and showed her the sign saying "30 minute chair massage - $30" She said, "yes yes" and hauled me right back into a table room. Well, I left in a pretty serious huff. A little while after I got home I got a phone call from the woman I originally made the reservation with. She asked, "Was there a problem?" I made my complaint to her and told her that I would NEVER go back to her establishment (I've actually been there several times and never quite been satisfied with the service). Enjoyed a 60 minute foot massage during a weekend visit to Grass Valley. This is actually a foot/head/body massage. Your feet soak in a very hot bath while scalp, neck, shoulders get massaged. Ray was very good - deep, strong massage but still gentle. A good amount of time spent on feet, then with hot stones. Then arms, legs, back. I remained fully clothed the entire time. I have experienced foot/body massage in China, Taiwan, other parts of California and this was among the best. Will definitely return next time in the area. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect because from the outside, it is not fancy. Bank Street is a super small street that is kinda like an alley & the business is located under another business. I found Spring Massage by mistake as a visitor walking in the Historic Downtown Grass Valley. I decided I needed to take care of myself and have a foot massage. That's a decision that I am proud of; WOW! I felt I was in another dimension as I entered with the ambiance and peaceful environment. When setup in my area, the massage I got was more than I expected; Not just a foot massage but covered hands, neck, shoulders, back and hips. I actually cried in relief. I booked a couples massage, I am 8 months pregnant & upon my arrival the man sitting up front from what I thought was a receptionist later opened the curtain to begin my massage. The entire experience was so uncomfortable. I was given a towel wrapped around me & told to lay on my side. When he came in he didn't put a sheet over me instead took the towel and used it as a blanket? (Uhm what) then he began the "massage" which was taking his hands and massage the same spot on my shoulder for literally 20 min. I asked if they had any female massage therapist because I was convinced he had never massaged anyone in his entire life let alone a prenatal massage .... To which he replied "no very busy" 5 min later I asked for the massage to stop & he asked if I wanted him to massage my feet/ he didn't speak any English. I didn't want to ruin my fiancé's experience so I let him finish his hoping he was enjoying it. He later walked out and told me that was the worst massage he's ever gotten.
