A local recommended this location to us. The decor leaves a bit to be desired but the food was very good. The waffles were terrific. The food is exceptional and exquisite it's basically down home cooking at down home prices my girlfriend and I eat here occasionally for breakfast we have hash browns pancakes and coffee lunch burger fries and onion rings supper she has a nice juicy steak while I have the veggie stir fry a salad and a water extremely healthy and delicious meal . The service was fast and prompt almost immediately they had menus for us to look at we placed our order 3 minutes later we get our food and enjoy. The ambiance is great just a nice place to eat and relax honestly if you can relax in a busy cafe then you have got it made .we definitely recommend spring garden cafe to anyone and everyone read more

Great place with ample. We're from Seattle and this has a great country feel. Seating and room for groups of 8. Clean place. Great service. They even let us taste the sauce before ordering. I had the mushroom swiss burger today and when I got towards the middle the hamburger it had a bitter taste and just didn't taste right at all. The waiter got me another one and the same thing happened. It must have been a bad batch of hamburger? I just hope no one got sick. Thank goodness I didn't. The waiter made it right but I definitely will not trust eating hamburger there any longer. The manager didn't even say sorry about what happened. read more

So we're driving by on Topeka KS roadtrip, evening about dinner time, and decide is time for a short break. This comes up as a potential. Just asked for our food options from a large menu variety. All looks good so far. Seems this might just be where the locals come. In old downtown area on corner. We're here about an hour before closing time. One other customer here now having shrimp. Waitress was very rude. Boyfriend pancakes were hard and cold. My bacon cheese burger was cold. We both got sick after eating.

Quiet little dive of a place. Staff was very friendly! We only went in for desert (recommended by a local) and we're not disappointed. My son had banana cream pie and said it was amazing. Wife had lemon meringue pie and was very pleased. I had German chocolate cake and again was very happy. Coffee was great as well. Overall we would like to return for an actual meal, but not in the plans for today. read more

Local storefront restaurant in downtown Nebraska City. Very crowded on a Friday night offering all the fried walleye that you can eat. Actually we were a little nervous and tempted to leave in this time of Covid. This didn't seem to bother the home town boisterous crowd enjoying Friday night out and down home cooking. Our waitress Sandra was like the energizer bunny lol, taking orders, running back and forth and reordering the fried fish on this busy night. There was a young man who brought me fresh coffee and was very attentive to everybody's needs. Dave had the fried walleye, accompanied by homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and a pretty large side salad. I had the lighter fare, a Julienne salad with lots of turkey, ham, cheese, egg and a side of blue cheese dressing. It was perfect for the hot weather here. I'll sum this review up with just a few sentences. My wife and I ate breakfast here on 5/3/24. I had the meat lovers skillet, and my wife had the Denver omelette. We both enjoyed our meal, as the food was very good, and was served promptly. The issue came toward the end of our meal. We asked our server (a young man (early 20s?)), who had previously given us pretty good service, for a refill on our coffees. He said he would be right back with that, but never returned. So, I had to go up to the counter, and asked a lady for some additional coffee. He overheard me, then came over and filled the two cups I came up with, and then I returned to our table with the refilled coffees. When we were done with our meal, I had to go to the counter and wait, since our check had not been brought to the table (after some period of time). Our server then came up to the counter, noticed I was waiting, and then found our check behind him, which I paid. Needless to say, he did not receive a great tip. 3 stars given due to the good food (would have been 5, had it not been for our server). read more

Solid small town diner. Had breakfast for lunch (I believe they serve breakfast all day), portions were very generous, while the price was very affordable. It was busy when we showed up, and it looks like their overflow seating is temporarily closed, but we were invited to join some other diners at one of the long center tables. Friendly staff, order was accurate, and very enjoyable. This is definitely where we are eating next time we're in Nebraska City. Give it a try! read more

One of the best breakfasts we've ever had! Steak in every bite of the huge breakfast burrito, the best sour dough toast ever, and when you order your hash browns crunchy...they actually come crunchy! Coffee was never empty and even though the restaurant was full, the employees were friendly and service and food were on point! Food is going down hill. Potatoes and anything else cooked on flat top taste horrible (I imagine it needs cleaned) and their white gravy has a funky taste, also Alfredo sauce has zero taste or seasonings and taste like it's just milk and flour mixed. I'm not positive but I feel like they need to scrub their flat top way more than what they do because it's tasted gross the last two times. Service was good! read more

I am back for a 2nd visit to try the fried chicken. 1/2 chicken and two sides for 8.99. The sides were wonderful coleslaw like my grandma Waters and cold cottage cheese. Both were yummy and generous portions. No one beats XFC Xiu's fried chicken but this is in the same zone. They warned of the 20 minute wait Which let me know it was freshly prepared just for me.
