She homed in on the casual story I confided in her and she made that story...about my dad having had cancer, the important aspect to put in the notes which had NOTHING to do with the actual appointment. I wanted to see the xrays and be shown how the injury was looking by her determination but she just couldn't be bothered. She thought maybe I wouldn't understand it all. We talked about pain medications, dosage, frequency etc and she made suggestions, none of that made it to the notes. I only went to her because it was on my discharge papers coming out of hospital. Wish I had chosen someone else but Olympia doesn't have any other ortho spine doctors to visit it seems. Glad to get out of there. She wouldn't even handle the referral she thought I would benefit from having. Had to do it myself through my pcp. Go to Seattle if you need an ortho spine care doctor.

Communication is a trick, but if I did a bunch of prep and acted as confident as him, he listened better. He was disarmed once we started talking about barbecue, maybe that's a pro tip? I'm still seeing him because he does three big things I have really wished for with other docs: *He advocated for non-surgical options and seemed to really consider the impact surgery would have on my life. *He was comfortable being direct with bad news and even leaned in to help me interpret bad news in plain language so I could understand what it meant for my daily life. *He seems to use realistically low expectations for how much behavior/lifestyle change people are actually going to do in the long term. His delivery can feel a little insulting and he might underestimate patients sometimes, but now that I know that I can be clear about the places I know I'm ready to put in the work. And a NPR then Doctor Sawyer for the last several years. Dr. Havalak was also wonderful and caring, although DR. Sawyer is also caring, down to earth, wonderful personality, truthful, and I have to say I have never had a doctor that worked so hard and would take the time to call you or a family member to check up on you. My husband has also been going to him for several years and Dr. Sawyer was concerned about his symptoms January 13th so Dr. S sent him for a CT scan that found two large cysts on his liver. Dr. Sawyer referred him to a specialist at Gastro Health, who then referred him to the U of W which has been long process. My husband has been waiting since January 27th to get a biopsy on his liver and DR. Sawyer and his wonderful nurse Misty (s/p) have not given up finding one. The Gastro Health specialist originally told us we had to go to the U of W because there was no one in Olympia or Tacoma that could do the biopsy, but then when the university Dr. finally called us for phone consultation, he said that the biopsy procedure is done by a specialist of radiology and that there had to be one in Olympia or Tacoma , so we called Dr. Sawyer to inform him of what the University Dr. told us and he and His nurse went to work on finding us The right doctor at Capital medical on the west side of Olympia to do the procedure. We got the call yesterday from Misty that they put a rush to get the biopsy and talked to South Sound radiology where CT scan and MRI was performed to get my husbands film to the Capital radiology dept. ASAP So they can view and get my husband biopsy done. Not only has Dr. sawyers nurse been wonderful keeping us updated by calling us but Dr. Sawyer himself has called my husband numerous times also.. He is the best! I am 77 and my husband is 83 and he doesn't care how old we are he still believes we have a lot of life in us to give us the best care we deserve! HE is a 10 in my book !!! He reminds me of the TV sitcom years ago called "Marcus Welby MD" although I don't think Dr. Sawyer would know who that is since he was probably in grade school or maybe not even born yet? Dr. Yan Geng needs to be evaluated in whether or not she has the bandwidth for the clients she treats. She's unable to discuss more than a singular issue in an appointment after showing up into the room a half hour later. The other reviews on her competency lines up 110% with our experience. In past phone calls with office manager Dale R, he stated that Pioneer Family Practice has taken on too many clients per doctor, and the quality of client care absolutely shows that. Dale R refused to give his full name after yelling in our faces when we took a photo of Dr. Yan Geng's name on the wall, a spelling which is uncommon. We should've known taking a picture of our doctor's name would've resulted in being kicked out and Dale R's face becoming inches from ours. Good luck to any present patients, our now retired doctor told us to leave before the transfer to Dr. Yan Geng. We wish we had listened, it would have saved huge headaches and some hope for the future of Pioneer Family Practice
