SPOT81 is a contemporary art gallery exhibiting Australian and international artists working in diverse media including painting, printmaking, sculpture and new media. Our exciting exhibition schedule features solo and curated shows and we regularly present dance and music events in the gallery.
A range of contemporary glass, ceramics and designer gifts are available from the gallery shop as well as limited edition prints from some of Australia's leading print workshops and individual printmakers. Located in a stunning warehouse in Chippendale's creative arts precinct among cafes, galleries and restaurants, and only a short walk from White Rabbit and Central Park, SPOT81 is an essential spot for seeing, experiencing and acquiring art in Sydney
History
Established in 2014.
SPOT81 director, Michelle Perry, was owner director of Syndicate at Danks in Waterloo's 2 Danks complex prior to relocating to Chippendale. Representing leading contemporary Australian artists including Paul Connor, Roslyn Kean, Graham Kuo and Jane Valentine the gallery has quickly established itself within the Sydney art scene.
Meet the Business Owner: Michelle P.
Born in South Africa, Perry emigrated to Australia in 1979. She completed a Dip. Arts at Alexander Mackie, C.A.E in 1981, a BFA (Visual Arts) at City Art Institute, SCAE in 1982, a Grad. Dip in Professional Art Studies (Printmaking) at City Art Institute in 1983 and was awarded her MFA (Drawing and Printmaking) from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 2002. Michelle Perry has lectured in drawing and Printmaking at the National Art School, Sydney and at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW and was an invited speaker at the 2005 International Print Symposium at the National Gallery of Australia.
She established Marnling Press in 1983, publishing and printing limited edition silkscreen and relief prints, collaborating with many of Australia's leading artists including Sydney Ball, John Beard, Charles Blackman, Cressida Campbell, Fred Cress, Alun Leach-Jones, Jasper Knight, Graham Kuo, Ann Thomson and indigenous artists including Ada Bird Petyarre and Lily Kelly.
