5 stars for the general manager Darren. His customer service skills is amazing. He was able to answer all my questions and professional. 3 star for overall gym. The womens section is way smaller than back then. They now allow people over 55 to go into this small girls section which makes me feel SUPER uncomfortable because there's older men who just watch you workout behind and beside you ( even if there's 1 person in the co ed area). This is something I'd like for them to change. I assume the purpose of having a girls area is so women can feel comfortable working out without feeling self conscious. Other than that, they have a lot of equipment and is open 247. They have ample of showers and lockers (bring a lock for lockers) They also have parking. Please change the women area to an actual women area. It's SUPER awkward to have older men in such a small area working out with you. It forces me to either go the co ed section or forces me to go into womens change area ( they have mats) when I purposely signed up to use the girls section. read more

I'm am a FAN of sport central because it's convenience. 24 hour gym, squash and tanning plus an attached sports bars. Lots of parking & child care available! Replay's sports bar has some great healthy options and of course the regular bar foods ie. wings, burgers and beer. Food is good, price is a little expensive for a sports bar attached to a gym. The gym has lots of equipment although free weights are mostly on the far because of the lack of etiquette from other members. Big plus is a super clean and fairly large private women's only section. There is enough equipment in this area that girls don't have to leave and visit the co-ed section. They also teach mixed martial arts here with two studios, a ring and lots of punching bags. It's not the prettiest gym but for $20ish a month and 24/7 hours you can't really complain. They just need better decor and to check the equipment regularly. read more

Sport Central - Lobby/Front desk - Gyms Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

I joined the gym mostly for the convenience of it being a relatively cheap 24h gym. Its huge and usually empty. Most of the equiptment is older and doesnt work correctly. They do also have is a tanning booth but whenever I used it, they usually had a couple light bulbs burnt out. In the ladies section there is also a steam room which is always an added bonus. I ended up purchasing and unlimited tanning package, however the next day when I went back to use it, I was told they had no record of me purchasing it. I still had the receipt (thank goodness) so I showed it to them and the corrected it. Several months later i decided to cancel my membership, (and went in with a friend to do so), filled out the form. You would think I would have learned my lesson to get documentation from the previous encounter, however I figured a witness would surfice. Apparently I was wrong as months later I recieved a call from the manager advising me I had outstaning fees from the last few months. I tried to explain I had already canceled my membership, however even with a witness it didnt matter as they had no record, and as he put it "papers dont just vanish". I ended up having to providing my credit card number since I had no proof I cancelled, only to later learn they had also sent it to collections. The gym itself is good if you are on a budget and need something 24hours, but make sure you KEEP A COPY OF ALL RECEIPTS and ALWAYS REQUEST A COPY OF ALL SIGNED DOCUMENTS. read more

Never, EVER give these guys your credit card or your money. They charge you whatever they think they want to, make up stories with regards to the contract you signed and averages 3-4 billing errors - always of course to their benefit - on any given calendar year. Do I think the gym itself is OK? Yes - it has decent equipment and is open 24 hours. But it's never worth the hassle of giving them your credit card to allow them to run rampant with it. Completely dishonest, untrustworthy and dangerous. read more

I cancelled my membership last month due to unforseen circumstances. I went in armed with a doctor's note. I told the guy to photocopy the cancellation form and the note for my record (After reading what had happened to another yelper down there!). He told me that because I had a DR's note, the manager should cancel me right away and I will NOT be charged anymore in the future. (NOT) to my surprise, I was charged again THIS month. I called inquiring what was going on. The girl at the front desk was courteous and nice, but did not know how to handle why I was charged an extra month so she transferred me to the manager. Albeit, 20 dollars out of my account is not a lot (still money though.), it was the way the "manager" handled the situation that bewildered me. He told me that every contract cancelled, there is a 30 day period in which I will be charged again. The cancellation notice reads that it "must be received 30 working days prior to the 1st of the following month" No where did it say I was responsible for next month's dues as well. I remember telling him "this really makes no sense" and him immediately replying "how does it NOT make sense?!" It escalated to an almost argument. He dared compare my cancellation at his gym to that of cancelling a cell phone contract, and how he still had to pay the extra month after he cancelled his cell phone. REALLY now. Him cancelling his cell phone contract was a CHOICE. Me ending up having to quit the gym and any physical activity was NOT a choice. He gave me this spiel about other members that don't end up coming to the gym and still pay for it or something stupid that really had no relevance to my specific case. Bottom line: I haven't shown up to this gym for over a month, and they decided to charge me again for this month even when I had a legitimate reason to cancel. When I quit this gym a month ago, I had no animosity against it. In fact, I encouraged many family and friends to go there due to their cheap rates, accommodating hours, nice staff and a sufficient amount of machines (even though they are a bit old and worn down). THANKFULLY, non of them signed up yet (a good 3-4 people). Rest assured that they will NOT be signing up at this gym from now on after this ordeal. Oh and their rates are skewed. I was telling my friend to come and he went to check it out. They were going to smack on 10-15 dollars worth of "towel and locker" fee on his monthly payment, which my two friends that I know who come here and I did not get. read more

The worst decision I've made in 2012 was to sign up for a membership at this place. Originally they offered me with a cheap rate of $14.95 a month, but required a 1 yr contract. In mid July my credit card was being fraud and had my card number changed. I missed 2-3 months of payments, so I gone in to explain the situation plus paid off the overdue amounts. At the same time, I had asked the front desk to change my payment info. I'm not the type of person who checks all transactions on my credit card bill, so I wasn't aware they actualy didn't take down my new card number. Then a couple months after I received a letter from a collection company saying this case has been passed onto them. I was still quite calm at this moment, just figured there had been a confusion in between. I called sportcentral, front desk transferred me to the "manager". Before I could start talking, he interrupted me and said "we've tried contacting you many many times and you just have to deal with the collection company now". He wouldn't even let me explain the situation. I told him I wasn't being contacted at all before the collection letter. The "manager" again claimed he had "called twice" and emailed me. whereas I really ddin't receive any. It turned into a heated argument (which I originally just wanted to see if they had my payment info updated). With the horrible customer service when clearly they were at fault, I decided to cancel my membership altogether. read more

This gym is one of those "You pay for what you get" places. For $15/month and 24/7 access you can't really complain. Love the new Strength Playground for cross fit and tough mudder style training. Front desk staff are friendly. The people here are really motivating. Big guys but always willing to lend a hand or spot. There is tons of equipment including machines, free weights (iron plates), cables and cardio equipment. The place is really big and there is rarely a line for equipment even during peak hours. However, cardio equipment needs to be replaced with new machines. Signs have been put up saying that they will be fixed for the past few months now. Really hope some money and time gets put into the section. read more

Eventually I will have to visit this place again do to work/travel. And yes will go here again, I don't know any better and its technically just around the corner from the office. It has what i like, plenty of free weights, more machines that I'll ever use. No air in here, not a big deal a good sweat doesn't hurt. The bad; this place is run down! Its starting to look like a Prison play yard. Mirrors broken have not been replaced, members here have crappy gym etiquette, everything is misplaced, disorganized, and a bunch of skinny wanna-be's. read more

It's 24 hour. Has a good variety of equipment. It's connected to a bar and space for squash and mma training. Membership is between $15-$20. There are two important things to note and it's the crowd and space. The crowd is a mix of casual fitness types and more serious types. Also, there is no separate space for the ladies. Go for: inexpensive membership, good hours Don't go for: if you need to transit, separate space for women, staff to help you read more

This gym doesn't not follow proper coronavirus guidelines. The new ownership is also rude towards its clients. I was here this morning, and I saw that the co-owner who was working out does not even adhere to the guidelines set out in his own gym. I would advise gym goers to avoid this gym and go elsewhere. Edit: Apparently, the person I had spoken to Tuesday morning was actually a staff member of Sport Central and personal trainer, Michael. At the time, he informed me that the person who he was with and working out with was the co-owner of the gym, which I am now told is not the case and who is in actuality an MMA coach who works in the same building and not involved in the ownership of Sport Central. I am very confused as to why employees associated with the gym would misinform clients in this manner and even lie about their credentials. I even asked this supposed "co-owner" if he was the co-owner of the gym and at the time, he told me that he was. Also, being employees of the gym does not mean you have the right to break the rules of the gym or be rude to the gym's clients. For example, leaving large personal belongings and bags sprawled out in the centre of the gym and in the walking path of other gym users, where there are clearly arrows pointing in the directions that people are allowed to walk in, or working out with another person at the same time on the same piece of equipment when social distancing is a thing. If even the employees associated with the gym cannot demonstrate and follow proper social distancing guidelines (or even show common courtesy to the gym's clients), then I do not feel the business is good for your own health and safety. read more

This is a great little gym with a healthy mix of equipment and machines. It does get busy at times, but for the most part there is enough space for everyone. It's got a no-BS vibe to it; what you see is what you get, and you make do with that. In the end, isn't that what a gym should be for? The staff are quite good as well. I had some issues with my membership, which had me worried since I set my expectations based on the older reviews of this place, but Darren took the time to address all my issues in an efficient manner and completely solved my issues. As far as I can tell, Darren is the new manager of the gym and he's going the extra mile to turn the gym into a great place. If you're thinking of signing up for a gym with a lot of equipment, reliable staff, and generous hours (24 hours!), then this place is a great choice. read more

Incredibly unreasonable manager. My contract had ended and was even offered to extend it and pay upfront for another year so I could save money. However, I had declined and said that I may return in the future to renew a contract. To my amazement 3 months later I was looking over my statements and saw that I was still getting billed by them!!!! NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE! read more

No stars for this gym. Bobby the manager is rude and inconsiderate, the staff use foul language. They run the gym like a bunch of thugs. Staff used foul language and confiscate membership cards without providing proof of any wrong doing on part of the member. Trying to get this issue managed/resolved was a nightmare, dealing with the manager Bobby ended up with him being accusatory & rude protecting his employee. Cancelling my monthly debit to my visa has been a nightmare. I would not recommend this gym to anyone, ever! read more

This is one of the most cost-effective, complete gyms that I have seen in the lower mainland. It is kind of free-for-all, what you want to do. Plenty of weights, machines, chin up bars, mats and three heavy punching bags. Very friendly staff. Fairly dedicated and friendly clientele. I did not see the pretentious, ego-inflated crew that often strut around several of the downtown gyms (eg "pardon while I watch myself flex in the mirror.") And the bar/restaurant serves amazing soup. If anything else, you have to try this soup. It was worth the trip out there. The only short coming is the awkward location. Otherwise, a great place to train. read more

I signed up with this Gym, couldn't get my hiney off the couch to go often and then I moved too far away so I had to end my membership. I am surprised at some of the low ratings for this gym. No problem with the staff onsite, they were all nice and easy going. The equipment wasn't all shiny and sparkly like a brand new Golds or something but I would not expect that for the membership fee, which I think is the lowest in the Vancouver area. That being said; it was always clean and I can see that they are making regular improvements and upgrades. For those of you who negatively reported regarding billing issues and the manager Bobby, I encourage you to try again. Either they have listened to the feedback, took it onboard and are working on the customer experience, or maybe there were some initial misunderstandings, because I actually had the opposite experience. My interaction was positive. There was a miscommunication with the front desk staff regarding my membership and how to end it, so I had to send an email for clarification. I received very polite and professional responses and the matter was dealt with quickly by the staff and Bobby himself in such a manner that it made me sad that I can't keep my membership! I would not hesitate to recommend Sport Central to anyone who has the much admired self disipline to get their butt to a gym :) read more

Ive been a member for almost three years. When I first joined i thought man this place can't be beat for the money. Well I don't know if they are short for cash or what but this place has gone straight into the dumps. I will definitely not be renewing my membership. Cons Only half the elliptical machines are working. They have 10 treadmills only 2 of them are working. Half the rowers are busted Weights are falling apart. Who knew these could even fall apart The steam room in the mens washroom has been broken for months. Pros Cheap Front Desk Staff is friendly Pretty Clean for the most part read more

This gym is not as bad as it seems. However, it would be nice if there were more common courtesy between the squash players' children! This is a gym, but at times it seems like a playground with these children of the parents(instructors?) that are playing squash. It is quite annoying actually as they are running around screaming. Why do the parents not say anything? (I've seen them with them while they are acting this way). Why are they running around the gym? Do they pay to use the facilities? Is this a non supervised daycare? I don't think so! These children are under the age of 10 and are running around the hallways and sometimes into members (that are working out). That is not acceptable! Worse, often they are running around and doing funny things to the cardio equipment, which is discerning, given that the cardio equipment already needs replacing! There is a daycare and a play space provided at the front of the gym. Its only actually a few offending individuals. Hopefully management will do something as some of them are involved. On the plus side, overall, its not a bad gym. The staff are generally friendly and the people that work out here are friendly. read more

It's disgusting. I just recently quit. The new managers office is just as dirty as the rest of the place. Old equipment, not maintained, change rooms smell/ect. it's mostly empty and has a bad vibe. stay away read more

I'm on a mission to leave good reviews where they are necessary! My husband and I have been members since 2000!!! I have never EVER had my billing messed up. The gym isn't the most current (treadmills need an update) in terms of equipment but the price doesn't kill me either. I pay a totally reasonable fee for consistently being able to work out or play squash whenever I want. If you like squash, the courts are great! World class...this facility hosted the junior national squash championships for Canada last year where my kids played. Was so cool and Shakiru is an awesome instructor...two of the members' kids have scholarships to PRINCETON because of him!! The gym is affordable and gets the job done. read more

I've been a very content member here for at least 2 years now, and I'm still a very satisfied and happy customer. I would, and have been recommending this gym to my friends. After reading other reviews below, I can see there are some common themes which deserve another perspective. - I've never had an issue with billing so I can't relate to some other reviews. - Cleanliness. I always see dedicated cleaning staff doing their thing, and they are thorough. Both paper and cloth towels can be found along with spray bottles to wipe down equipment too. Not sure what the problem surrounding this was. I wouldn't eat something off the floor, but that's common sense right? - Old equipment/not working/not pretty. Okay, it's not spiffy like Steve Nash's sportsclubs, but the price generously reflects that. As for broken equipment, I've only seen a few things out of order which were promptly fixed up and put back in service. No biggie here. Especially if you prefer free weights and not machines. In a nutshell, I'm happy here because: - 24hrs, which is a blessing for those who do shift work like myself - TONS of equipment AND free weights - Lots of free parking - 4 power cages - Bumper plates - Crossfit box along with the usual equipment - Friendly, supportive and informative staff What I don't like is the ladies only area. This is because I've been told there is another power cage and loads of other equipment hidden away from the general public. But the people I know that use the ladies only area say they're pretty happy with it so I guess that's okay. Do yourself a favor and check it out for yourself. You'll know right away if its what you're looking for. read more

Lots of new stuff at Sport Central! The new all-purpose indoor turf playing fields are amazing, and the Xtreme Athletics crossfit area is a workout in itself. Of course the squash courst are a draw as always. It's still a low-maintenance, no-frills type of gym but you go there to work out, not to pose and be seen.... I'm so glad they changed owners in the restaurant though, the food is much better and healthier too. read more

I used to be a member of this gym a while back, and the reason I left was because of the older equipment and another gym nearby offered a better membership rate. However, I am now back due to the improvements including membership rates and the Crossfit section. Not to mention, being a 24/7 gym was always a bonus because often I find myself stuck in a busy schedule in the day. Having the option to go in the middle of the night is definitely a plus. Note, they do still have older equipments. Having a section dedicated to Crossfit was mainly the reason why I switched gyms. In the x-fit section, they have bumper weights (needs more), climbing ropes, GHD, rings, plyo boxes, pull-up rigs, tires, and squat stands. (I might be missing something...) Although it may seem like they have everything, they are still missing some equipments such as KBs and medicine balls, which isn't a really big deal, since there are other equipments that can be used to improvise. Another good thing is that they do offer crossfit classes, and I think only those classes have access to those "missing" equipments. All in all, the gym has been good so far. The only downside to the x-fit section is that if there is a class running, you can't use it, which is fair enough, I think. As mentioned by other members, this gym isn't the prettiest, but it does seem like it has potential with all the other facilities like tanning, indoor turf, and squash courts. read more

If I can give 0 stars I definitely would've. The manager is terrible. Bobby definitely doesn't know how to run the gym. He's terrible at communicating and giving stellar customer service - which A) is the number one aim of running a business. B) I've heard of how unfair he is to his employees regarding shifts & wages. I'm unsure of how he got this position but he definitely needs to be demoted. The gym is run down and has very old equipment. It's nice if you like being alone and having weights for yourself. No classes either. Aside from that a gym is a gym. Bobby needs a reality check. Do everyone a favour and find a new 'career' read more

This was the worst experience ever! i tried to sign up for a membership and in the middle of my signing up i hear this man in the background (who i later found out was an owner/manager) was yelling at someone on the phone being extreamely rude! when he was done yelling at the person on the phone he rudely pushed aside the lady helping me and treated me so poorly that i walked out without my membership and will never go back! Bobby Poor! What a rude person and what a terrible ownership for a gym! read more

Staff are friendly! The cardio machines need MAJOR work though, seems like none of them work, there is always an issue with everything and it seems like nothing has been addressed in what seems like years. They took the basketball court away which was a big selling point for me and they put in a dryland facility which is cool but they started charging you to use it. The Squash courts are a nice perk and the new crossfit section is nice to have except when there are large bootcamps going on and it seems like the gym becomes tiny. Really hoping they start fixing the cardio equipment instead of throwing up half ass signs saying that the parts have been ordered but never really get fixed. read more

Been to this gym for 3 years...It's convenient, 24 hours but needs a little bit more work on changing rooms and equipment. Not sure what the deal is with the painted floors in the change room. Overall, everything for basic needs are there if you're one that doesn't mind using older machines. Too bad there are no fitness classes offered. Can't complain coz its only $15-20/ month! read more

This gym was good UP until my credit card got charged 94$, I contacted manager, front desk and everyone but there was no reply and I had to wait for the manager. Sent him many emails and after about 2 months, he finally told me that they overcharged me. I told him to REFUND it but he wouldnt and said that it would be extended for 6 months until your next charge. 6 months later and the fact that I did not want to go to this gym anymore, I was charged again for 34$ and 43$ 2 separate times, so I cancelled my membership. FRONT desk guy tries to prove me wrong for the next 45 minutes until Bobby shows up, through my logical reasoning, I told him that I was overcharged again and again, how can they get away with this? I warn you guys, DO NOT GO to this gym. I cancelled my subscription and he said he would give me back the money. nope, he said I also had to pay for the next month and the cancellation fee. So i got 0$ back from this fiasco, consider it a mistake. This gym might be cheap, but do not get scammed by them. It is such a hassle. read more
