Normally I don't write up "Reviews", however on a rare occasion I see an establishment I have been impressed with be attacked repeatedly through YELP and decide to speak up on their behalf. It's humorous looking at some of the complaints here. From what I can see, a vast majority of the complaints stated are entirely self-inflicted drama. First of all, if you're upset that your classes are not transferring to the University of your choice, that's your fault. It is entirely the student's responsibility to look at available online transfer tools OR make the necessary calls to your chosen college to find out if you are taking the right classes. Yes, that can sometimes take many hours of research. Do it. Spokane's staff can only go so far in holding your hand here. There is always an advisor who will help you determine whether you are taking the right "core/bacherlorette" requirements that will fulfill the core part of your bachelor's degree for your chosen four year institution. If you havn't done the necessary research here, that falls on your side of the ballpark. They shouldn't have to hold your hand through the whole process. I also noticed a lot of complaints about cheating students, terrible professors, and so on. Again, blame your generation's lack of ethics/morals (not the professors). The professors here are wonderful, and I simply can't agree. There's a reason people go to community colleges, let's just say that. It's disgusting that so many people would come on here blaming professors for young people's behavior and lack of research skills. Take some personal responsibility. As for my experience with Spokane: I am an Oregon resident and am a returning student who needed to pick up a few credits before transferring to Oregon State University. One of the reasons I chose Spokane is because I have never come across such a professional staff. This college beats the heck out of competing community colleges that are sloppy and have terrible programs. Their professors are as good as any four year institution and the faculty is incredible; in particular Sami and Karen who are INCREDIBLE guides/counselors that have been my saving grace in understanding what all I was going to need to get myself into a position to transfer to Oregon State University. When I had questions about quarter/semester conversions, requirements, financial aid (FAFSA), etc. they went above and beyond to make sure everything was on track. If it hadn't of been for them, I may have thrown in the towel. I have also been immensely impressed with the professors as I've also taken classes from a college in Kansas City, Missouri some years ago. In comparison, it's definitely on par if not better quality classes. All the professors have impressive backgrounds/resumes and hold their classes to high standards. I went to college here 38 years ago. Obviously, I learned something, as I just calculated those years without the aid of a calculator. Back then, this college did a great job of offering enough classes to fulfill the general university requirements, so I could move on down the road to a public university. I particularly recall beginning and advanced volleyball, tennis, and bowling. Oh, and that psychology class also sticks in my head. On my most recent trip to SCC, I went to find my mom (it was Mother's Day weekend), and she was peddling her wares, lilacs at the Garden Expo. I also found my dad planted in a chair, helping the garden club. I had a chance to go down memory lane in the Lair, as I really wanted to find the bowling alley, but things have changed or rather there was too much garden expo in my way or my memory is really slipping. I don't know what classes SCC offers now, but I'd be willing to guess that it is still a great value, and if I had it all to do over again, I'd still come here first and get those required classes out of the way. My economics classes also paid off. read more

I have personally experienced teachers manipulating grades an accusation of stealing. I have tattoos so i am being judged at S.C.C. Also the teachers here are not good at all. I graduated with an A in almost all quarters and i was there everyday, but still i am lost when it comes to fixing cars. If u asked the students attending this college they will say the same. Patrettee, spotts , and coffey I caught messing with grades. This school is unprofessional and lacks real mechanics skills u need to be successful in the automotive industry. I have proof of what i am saying, i just dont know how to post it. Rustameyer, and rodgers are good teachers and they are fair. Wendy at workforce or workfirst (whatever the name is) is also a horrible person and doesnt help students that are really struggling and instead lies about having school funding saying they're isn't any help as you watch people around u that already have lots of money recieve more. This is a horrible college and they dont do nothing if u report this stuff. I reported all this to the automotive tech dean levingston and he just basically said that take it up with the same teachers causing the problems. An said they have a contract with them that states we students have to work our problems out with the teachers. So my question is then whats the point of the dean? Then come to find out the dean is buddy- buddy with the same teachers who are being unprofessional. So the dean is covering for the trash teachers. I hope one day someone with power sees this and does something about all this cricked school. I would avoid this college at all cost it is unprofessional and the teachers are trash at teaching. read more

This is for the Bigfoot cafe. Sometimes the food is ok and sometimes it makes my stomach a bit upset. I had a cheese burger a few days ago and my stomach didn't like it. Today I had the sausage breakfast burrito and again, a bit of an upset stomach. I've also had sandwiches, soup, and two bacon breakfast burritos that did not make my stomach upset and tasted good. I'm not a fan of having an upset stomach during class so be careful what you choose to eat here. read more

This school is so disfunctional, if u need a tutor good luck, hopefully they got one for u, i asked a tescher if he could help me understand a question, he says no right infront of another teacher, also they love hustling students so they send there flash light cops to go an harrass students so they can make money, they are writing tickets to students for not paying to park at a college they go to and pay thousands of dollars for. They charge us drivers( most people) for bus passes and call it tuition. But they dont give us a choice to pick or not pick, pure dictatorship. Because if they did no one would buy the bus pass but a few. And then they wont get money for buss passes and tickets. I paid 60 for a ticket when the pass cost 35 because i forgot and it was a new quarter. Also were does the money go? The parking lot is always icy and dangerous, so doesnt go back to students parking.idk read more

Wow. That is all I can say. I've been going here for the last two years and I am so disappointed. As I just began my second to last quarter here, I am finding out only 1/4 of my credits are able to transfer to WSU. I did the first year on campus and my second year online because I moved across the state. How is this school offering online classes and the teachers are expecting students to go on campus for a final test? This is an ONLINE class, I signed up for this for a reason. I am finishing my last quarter of my AA at WSU because I will continue my education there and SCC does not have the classes I need for graduation online; I saw that only 22 of my credits transferred from SCC. So none of the management or marketing classes in the business degree are equivalent to what WSU offers. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Why have I been going here to get a degree but none of the classes count at a different university that the college apparently has partnership with? Here is to 2 years wasted! read more

I looked online at the schedule for their courses and i'm so dissapointed. I moved from california in search of a better life and in hopes of finishin my education in WA. Why don't they offer more evening classes? They are so limited on selection and most of the clases offered during the evening aren't general classes. Also not to mention no weekend classes?!! Do teachers not want to work or is it a lack of funding? It seems silly to me that they offer no flexibilty to hands on students. This school/state really needs to put more focus on making education accessible to everybody. read more

Went to this college. It has some GREAT teachers however some of them are just there for a paycheck. Also, try to call and reach a counselor. No one knows where the heck one is and what's his schedule looks like for the rest of the day. Feels like they do whatever they want. I honestly think they have terrible customer service. You will be on hold to find out if they are there or not for hours and no one will pick up the phone, oh and when they will they will tell you that they don't know anything. This is just very much misfunctional. read more

I have never dealt with a school that is so backwards. Today they told me tahr if I do not pay my my summer tuition that my classes will be dropped. I told them that I am waiting for financial aid to process my paperwork and they said it does not matter, if my classes are not paid by June 5th then they will be dropped. Classes don't even start until July 1st. So I am screwed because the have a screwy system. read more

SCC is primarily a technical community college that offers AA degrees and certifications. It has a good reputation for its automotive programs and its nursing programs but it offers many more options. It also has hairstyling and optometry assisting and liberal arts transfer degrees. This review is about the culinary department and the Bakery and Orlando's in particular. I was there yesterday with the garden club from Coeur d'Alene. I bought delicious 'honey grain' bread in the bakery which I've toasted and am munching on while I write this review. Don't let the name put you off as it's not sweet but crammed with raisins, seeds and nuts. Everything we bought in the bakery is delicious and very reasonably priced. Orlando's lunch menu has a strong and sophisticated Asian influence and my four year old granddaughter and I enjoyed shrimp skewers beautifully served over brown rice, shaved carrots and daikon. Others ordered 'Drunken noodles' and pork filled lettuce wraps. The desserts were works of art and with superb service from Graciella, we had a great lunch. Again it was very reasonably priced and both the restaurant and bakery are run by the students. Not open every day but well worth a visit. read more

I took Andy Buddington's Geology of the Pacific NW 202 this spring. If one is interested in how the earth developed, how the NW materialized, interested in one's surroundings, would like to experience a mind blowing understanding of the physical features that one sees every day, then Andy is your professor! I can not begin to imagine a professor who is more informed, entertaining, enthusiastic and easy from whom to learn. Andy's sense of humor, his corny geology jokes and general enthusiastic and pleasant demeanor helped me to remember the many new terms and concepts. This guy is really into what he does! Andy's wonderful course notes make the job of learning much easier than any class I have ever attended. His field trips are most fun and interesting and demonstrate precisely what he is presenting in class. The labs tie well into the course as we progressed through the quarter. I am signed up for his next class and anticipate it eagerly! read more

I am a current student in my second year. Overall, I am happy with SCC. There was a huge switch in a computer system and some things got messed up. I believe it has all been resolved now. This is a great community college- lots of programs, resources, activities, and more. read more

The people at the cashiers desk in the main building are literally some of the rudest people I've ever come across. They all have snappy attitudes and seem so annoyed when anyone gets in the line. Even if you're the only person in line and there's multiple cashiers open. They all just sit around and wait for a few minutes to see who is gonna take the person first, and when it's been like 5 minutes and you're still the only person in line, they finally decide to do their job and help you. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to get a parking pass, which takes barely even a minute to accomplish. I've been coming to this school for nearly three years now and I've always noticed this. Ever since the beginning and even now. Why don't you guys act a little nicer? It's your job after all. Sorry me needing a parking pass is such a burden on you. Stop requiring parking passes as a separate transaction and just let there be free parking included if you hate it this much. There's got to be plenty of other people noticing this. Why hasn't anything been done? Any type of costumer service training or just new people in general? I'm sick of being talked down to and made an idiot just because I have a question about something. I get they deal with it all day, but if you can't handle it then you should probably just switch your job. Need better people on staff. read more
