Bellaire Animal Hospital - Welcome new clients to Bellaire Animal Hospital

    Bellaire Animal Hospital

My name is Bob Hicks, and I'm giving feedback to Asst. Bryan Wilson and a recent negative…read moreexperience in October for my Chihuahua/Manchester Terrior mix Scrapper. I'm 55 and NEVER written a negative review. I also have a sister-in-law who is a vet in Tennessee, so I'm sympathetic. I've been going to Bellaire Animal Hospital for 3 years now...for both regular care and boarding. Also for my family with dogs for 12 years now...from vaccinating new puppies through euthanizing them. I'm not a pristine owner who demands perfection. I keep my dog well groomed when he'll be boarded. On Bellaire Animal Hospital's Website it states: BOARDING GUESTS ENJOY A NUMBER OF AMENITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: CAGES ARE SANITIZED DAILY, AND CLEAN BEDDING IS PROVIDED AND CHANGED REGULARLY. The first year I picked-up my dog from their boarding services, he wreaked of a "wet, outside dog smell" and had feces smeared on his coat. I said nothing - I just took him home, bathed him and shampooed his car seat (at a $$$, of course). The second year I politely mentioned the previous year's experience... ...and our dog was cared for perfectly - just as they claim on their website. This year (2017) I politely mentioned it again but was told that "repulsive smell is expected, but we will bathe him for extra cost". Extra cost when their website pledges that "cages are sanitized daily" and "bedding is changed regularly" This is either a conflict - or an untruth. On 2017's boarding drop-off I asked to speak with the vet to express my disappointing reservation conversation. Asst. Wilson invited me into his office, but our 90 second conversation became resentful and an UNREASONABLY rude. I explained that I appreciate all the wonderful care given to both my dog and others, but explained the concern about my dog's hygene...and I POLITELY explained that I felt it's reasonable to expect he be returned to me in the same clean condition he arrived... and without extra bathing fees. This complies with their websit, but in direct contrast the proposal for extra bathing fees. Asst. Wilson's only response was (with a condescending tone of voice) "If you don't like it, then don't bring your damn dog here. We don't need your complaints OR business". {awkward pause} (While infrustrated) I calmly replied "OK then". Asst. Wilson quickly followed "I have emergency surgery in a few minutes and you want me to spend time dealing with your stinky fucking dog? Just get out" (pointing to the door). Without a word or gesture I left his office. Would he give the same rude response should a client obtain flees? Flees, stench and feeces all require extra retail products ($$$) and time to rid the dog of its newly-acquired undesirable attributes. What's the difference? Hmmm. Just a thought. I left my dog to border since I was on my way to vacation and there were no alternatives. When I picked him up, he was just fine - clean, happy and healthy. Again, I was both polite and respectful to Asst. Wilson and the staff. EVERYONE in the practice seems top-notch. Asst. Wilson: Whether you are having a stressful day or not, there is NO excuse for your rudeness when patients share concerns, no matter how insignificant they seem to you - especially considering that you're supposed to be a trained, practicing, educated professional. I respect your profession and what you endure daily, but NEITHER your patience or sensitivity skills. I apologize if, at the time, I seemed self-centered because of my concern for my best friend's care and health, but I had no idea what your day consisted of - emergency surgery or not. You invited me to visit with you in your office. I accepted your offer, explained my concern in a calm, respectful way, and you reamed me unnecessarily. I believe a personal apology from you is also in order. I'm curious to learn if your self-pride allows you to do so. -Respectfully yours. -Bob

Our dog ( a 65 lb wirehaired Viszla ) is comfy & cozy here with lots of space to visit and play with other pups. Megan and her crew are compassionate and caring. They handle food and meds with ease and accuracy. They respond quickly to emails. They are always friendly and best of all, they treat our boy well! New to the area, our vet recommended Meadowpond to us a year ago and we are so glad she did!

I had contacted a facility closer to Charlevoix, but they wouldn't accept our dogs because they are pitbull mixes, and they recommended Meadowpond to us. I immediately requested a reservation on Meadowpond's website because any business that doesn't discriminate against our friendly pups deserves our business and support :) Anyway, the reservation process was super simple. You fill out the information on their site, and they called me about the reservation that week because we requested the reservation a month before our trip. They answered all my questions about how everything works with it being a 24/7 facility, and quickly got our dogs set up for their upcoming reservaton. Drop off was a little confusing because I didn't realize that there were two codes - one for the door into the facility and a different one for the code to their actual room. However, once that was figured out, they were in the room and ready to go in no time. They are able to share a room, and it is a good size for both dogs (45 and 55 pounds). The room also has a dog door so they could go to a private outdoor area to go to the bathroom or be outside whenever they wanted. We got to see pictures of the dogs on their FB page which was nice to know they were having fun and enjoying their time there. You are able to pick your dog up at any time during their stay, so the checkout process was as easy as us accessing the room with the code, gathering their belongings, and taking them out to the car. It was a breeze, so much so that I never even had to talk to anyone in person at the building. If we need to board our dogs in the area again, we'll definitely come back to Meadowpond!
