I first worked with Split Second Sound and Vinny Esposito waaaaaay back in the early 2000's. I was a silly college kid on the homecoming planning board at Queens University of Charlotte and needed someone to deal with sound for our headlining act... wait for it... Sugar Hill Gang! That's right, we booked Sugar Hill Gang in 2002. What can I say? We had a limited budget. Flash forward 15-years to a much older but not much less clueless me on the hunt for a DJ for our wedding. I immediately remembered how easy it was to work with Vinny and reached out with that awkward "Heyyyyyy, I don't know if you remember me, but..." email. I'm happy to report he remembered me and was as happy to reconnect as I was. During our consultation, we reminisced about the good old times (musicians are full of shenanigans, y'all) and marveled at how much Split Second Sound has grown. Theirs is a story of hard work and determination paying off! When I first worked with Vinny in 2002, he was operating SSS out of his garage. Today, he has a beautiful office space in South Charlotte and a full team of employees. Anyways, I'm rambling. We obviously booked SSS for our wedding DJ needs and were so impressed from beginning to end. All the little details make SSS the best in the business. From the personalized chalk board sign welcoming us for our first consultation to their interactive website where you can provide details for run of show, must-play songs along with don't-you-dare-play songs, everything was a pleasure with them. We loved our DJ Anthony and his assistant Danielle. They were fun and interactive and probably most importantly kept us on track all night long! read more

I would not recommend Split Second Sound. I was recently a guest at a wedding DJ'd by Split Second Sound. My wife went up to the DJ booth where he asked "What do you wanna hear?". When my wife requested a song, he openly mocked her in front of a crowd of people. It ruined the evening we were meant to be celebrating our closest friends because of some incredibly unprofessional and degrading remarks. They failed to meet all of the requirements I needed for my wedding, they brought limited speakers that wasn't even louder than my party. When I called asking why I didn't receive the package that I asked for, they said they were limited on staff and couldn't provide what I required. They ruined my wedding and ruined a day that was supposed to be incredible. it was such an incredibly easy task that they failed to provide. Initially we thought about having our friend DJ the wedding as we just imagined that he would be playing a few songs and get the crowd going. Everyone at Split Second that I encountered was friendly and professional. They did a great job setting me up for the perfect day ahead of time. We LOVED our wedding DJs!!! We hired Split Second Sound for our wedding at the Ballantyne Hotel in June 2017 and we were SO pleased with their work, attention to detail, package pricing, and the great party we got from Charlie and JD!!!! We created a contract with SSS for the package and hours we needed, hired DJs for the ceremony and reception, and also added uplighting. We were assigned Charlie as our DJ who was wonderful in communicating before the big day about our music preferences, working with our timeline to make sure he had everything all set, and ensuring he knew everyone's names for announcing, etc. He was easy to commuicate with via email, phone and text to ensure that everything was planned and perfect! His assistant was JD who was also fantastic! The two of them worked hard to ensure that we had a great party. Our friends and family love to dance and Charlie and JD coordinated the best dance party ever! They even went around and changed our up-lighting colors to our requests throughout the night after dinner into the dance party. We were referred to Split Second Sound for my daughters 11th birthday party by a friend who had nothing but the best things to say about the company. This is one of the very first reviews that I have taken time to actually write although I rely on the reviews of others to make important decisions and purchases all the time. My review will likely get lost in the thousands of excellent reviews that Split Second Sound receives. Weddings are expensive, but thousands of people cannot be wrong about SSS. Although a wedding is about you and your new spouse, it is also about the guests that have travelled near and far to spend the day with you. Depending on the size of your wedding, you may not have much time to spend with each guest, so it is your duty to make sure they have a great time. There is so much pressure to be the next best wedding and to put on a show, but chances are if you are paying out of your pocket with little help, you need the best bang for your buck. This is where Split Second Sound came in for me. A year and a half before my event, I chose the venue and I chose the DJ (based on reviews). It was so far out, but I had a plan. If everything fell apart, I knew there would be alcohol and Jonah Pearl! I didn't mind paying a little extra as security that his well-known presence would be there on the most important day of my life. You may be loaded, or have a parent paying for everything, or be on a really tight budget like we were. We decided not to have a wedding planner, but to have a party motivator. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE! Jonah went above and beyond. He helped mix a special mother/son dance mix for my teenage son and I and participated in second lining (a New Orleans traditional brass band parade). I don't know how he got everyone on the floor, but grandmas were dancing and Jonah was too. At one point, I looked over and Jonah was collecting the sparklers from the sparkler exit and putting them in a sand bucket to dispose of. There are so many little things that you never think of. Jonah is TEAM BRIDE & GROOM for the day and you cannot ever put a price tag on someone that is willing to run the show, jump in to dance with your guests, and put you first on your important day. Jonah knew what he was doing, I knew what he was doing, and so did all 170 people in attendance. When people come up to you and ask for the contact information for your DJ during and after the event, you KNOW you picked right. Every single person said my wedding was the MOST FUN they had ever been to. I put a lot of work into making it fun, but Jonah was THE BEST wedding decision we ever made. UPDATE: Fast forward two months. My employer hired Jonah to do a Be-A-Star event for our division. Some of the executive team of Compass Group attended my wedding and immediately booked him for our work event. So whether a wedding or a large event, Jonah has your back. We hired Split Second Sound & requested DJ LeVar for our wedding at the Foundations For The Carolinas in August 2017 and are SO happy we did. We didn't want the typical wedding DJ, we wanted someone who could mix our favorite hip hop throwbacks with contemporary music in a way that would keep all of our guests out on the dance floor the entire night. We wanted to party! From the first meeting, LeVar was able to quickly pick up on the mood we wanted to set, and it felt like he knew us all along. Split Second Sound is AMAZING! We had Mike as our DJ and people were coming up to me all night asking who our DJ was and how we found him. We had our ceremony and reception outside on a rooftop and I was concerned a bit about the logistics of sound. After talking to Mike, I felt 100 percent at ease about the entire evening. Mike was so professional and handled everything throughout the night including the prelude music, ceremony sound, directing the flow of the evening, and making the reception a huge dance party. He played a wide variety of hits that got all ages on the dance floor and mixed them into each other very smoothly. First wedding experience with DJ DENNIS was amazing! He was great, personable, polite! Last night, upon my suggestion, my best friend chose Split Second and got DJ MIKE.. as Matron of Honor, I requested to play a song for the bride and he was completely rude to me. This was a sober wedding, I hadn't requested any other songs or anything of that nature, and his response was "You have to asks the bride's permission b/c she said no more older songs". Now my best friend, sure I see her saying something like that... but it was his delivery and the fact that I was trying to play her OUR song. I KNOW she would have loved it, but the moment was ruined by him. He could have been more polite about it and just said "I'll see if I have it". But he totally EMBARRASSED me and I felt like a complete idiot trying to do something nice for my best friend. He knew I was the MOH, he introduced us, I had the dress on... but apparently I was a nobody to him. read more

My wife and I hired Split Second Sound for our wedding this past September. They came VERY highly recommended and we thought we made the right decision. On our wedding day the service was terrible. Our D.J Joey, never got up to interact with our guests, he let 45 minutes go by with no music and rushed all aspects of our wedding. When we asked him to play fast music and pick up the pace, he was rude and advised us "this is how southern weddings are done". Our guests were really disappointed. When I spoke to the owner, Vinnie , he was very nice and really seemed like he was going to make this right. He said he would call me after doing research into the matter. That was a month ago and I haven't heard from him since. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY!! I worked with Split Second Sound to book a DJ for my brother's wedding in November 2013. I have been to several big weddings in Charlotte where Split Second was the entertainment (Ritz Carlton, Hilton Center City, and the Omni), so I knew they could provide a fun time. However, we didn't have as big a budget for music like some of the other weddings I attended, so we went with their entry level package and I was a little concerned that they would send us an "entry level" DJ. I was COMPLETELY wrong! From the first phone call with our DJ to the very end of the wedding night, Terrence was unbelievable to work with. He was prepared the day of the wedding, arriving early with a detailed timeline of the wedding day including the times of first dances, toasts, dinner, cake cutting, etc. and even worked with us to make a few last minute tweaks and changes to the timeline. We had discussed the type of music we wanted played but didn't give very many specifics and Terrence couldn't have done a better job! He had a nice jazz/big band selection during cocktail hour and then amped it up for the wedding party entrance and really got the guests excited with his personality and enthusiasm (but not in an annoying way like some DJs). We warned him that the wedding guests were not big dancers so getting people on the dance floor would be a challenge. Terrence did a great job playing music that involved everyone (old and young) and really kept the wedding momentum going all night. I noted Terrence's attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond on many occasions throughout the evening. During dinner, Terrence noticed that there wasn't any catering staff to prepare the bride and groom's dinner plate, so he grabbed two plates and went to the buffet and prepared the plates for the bride and groom. Although this might seem like a small detail, I believe that NO bride or groom should have to prepare their own dinner plate on their wedding and since Terrence had prepared their plates for them, it gave them more time to mingle with their guests. Terrence also made sure the bride and groom had a drink all throughout the night to ensure that they never had to go to the bar. Since there wasn't a wedding planner to stay on top of these details, we really appreciated Terrence going the extra mile and making sure the evening was seamless. I would highly recommend Terrence and Split Second Sound to anyone looking for a DJ for their next event. You will not regret this decision! When it came to selecting my wedding vendors, there was no question who I would be booking with for DJ services! Split Second Sound has a stellar reputation and came highly recommended by several of my friends who have booked them in the past. We were NOT disappointed! After contacting SSS, we met in-office for a presentation of the various services they offer. We opted for a package that included a DJ, DJ assistant, cocktail & reception music, as well as uplights. Once the contract was drafted, signed, and the deposit paid, my husband and I were provided access to an online portal where we could customize the details for our big day. I loved that we were able to log in any time, any where to add songs to our playlist as soon as they popped into our head! After getting set up with the online portal, we were matched with DJ Jonah and Assistant Tony. Jonah then contacted us to schedule an in-person meeting to discuss our vision for the big day. At the meeting, we reviewed the information from the online portal and discussed additional details we overlooked or were struggling with. Jonah was very thorough in going over the timeline to ensure we were on the same page as our vendors and event coordinator. The week of the wedding, Jonah was very attentive to my last-minute questions and tweaks to the timeline. He was able to custom mix a song for our introduction, as well as color match the uplights to a photo I provided! When the day of the wedding arrived, DJ Jonah and Assistant Tony arrived early and greeted us warmly. I was a bit stressed that day, as most brides are, but they instantly put me at ease and reassured me of the wonderful night they had planned for us. Once the reception began, Jonah's professionalism as an event host shined as he smoothly guided the course of events. He and Tony even went around to the guest tables during dinner to take song requests! I thought that was a wonderful, personal touch. Tony proved to be an excellent party motivator by leading the crowd in a line dance to break the ice. Once the party was rolling, Jonah was able to read the crowd and control the energy so that the entire night flowed perfectly! Guests of all ages were thoroughly entertained and enjoyed themselves immensely. My husband and I received so many compliments about how memorable our reception was thanks to Split Second Sound. He met with my husband and I prior to our big day to talk about expectations, song choices, and the overall feel we were going for at our reception.
