A great inexpensive community pool, with a shallow pool for kids…read more We wanted a couple of hours of cooling down after a day of hiking (Jun 2026). We tried out the pool at the George C. Edwards Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex at Garrett College. It's a full set of athletic facilities. We focussed on the kid's pool. It's at the end of the large lap pool. We spent most of our time in the 2ft-8in-deep shallower somewhat-separate section of the kids' pool, which the younger children (and their parents) were more comfortable in. The 3-year-olds entered via a long ramp, and made forays from the separate stairs to practice short swims to their parents. By the end of an hour, they were bravely taking swims in the middle of that shallow area. The 7-year-old swam happily end-to-end there, and then accompanied an adult into the larger deeper main 4ft-3in-deep section of the kids' pool. And at the end, we turned on the jacuzzi-like bubbling in the shallow section, much to everyone's delight! A grand finale! Most of us stayed with the kids, though one or two,swam some laps in the adjacent adult pool. The cost was quite reasonable! $15 for one adult, or $30 for four. Seniors and teens $10, younger $5, below 6-yrs-old for $2. On weekends, there's hours when it's only $6 per person! You pay at a small desk just inside the entrance, just past the Amazon delivery lockers and the shelf of shared books to read. We all burned off excess energy before dinner. And we saw a beaver in the grassy area on the right as we turned north on Garrett Highway afterwards! A perfect afternoon!

The combo Liberty Natatorium with track and field all under one roof is impressive and will turn three in 2020. The facility is home to Liberty University Flames Swim team. The location is not far from campus. Surface parking is adequate for large events such as the last meet I attended Virginia Long Course Championships. There is a pull up for athlete drop off, but no over hang in inclimate weather. The 50 meter Olympic size pool with platform diving and well is an excellent facility. The deck is wide offering lots of space for athletes to sit and move. Cost are often cut to reduce space. Pool temps were correct as well as air temps comfortable. Air quality very good. The digital scoreboard is a highlight. However there are negatives such as the cave atmosphere with little natural lighting. The spectator seating is a hot mess and not designed well for viewing at all. Staffing has improved over the three visits. The first year was rough on running meets. There were multiple issues and a major headline in national news with the timing system. All of this is worked out and last I heard a new Omega timing system was being ordered. I'm a fan of the Natatorium and will likely return in Summer 2020. This is a swimmers pool, not a spectators pool which is disappointing to not have both. They still get high marks from me.

At 5 tried to order corn dogs. Was told the deep fryer was "turned off". Asked for soda. Was told they were all warm!!! Then asked life guard why the slide was not open & was told because they didnt have enough life guards. At 2 pm waited in line for tube. Was told maintenace was blowing up more. Wave Tek is unique to the area as it's the only wave pool around. You can bring your own float or rent one of theirs to float on the waves. They also have a small waterslide. Since the slide is not to large, young children who haven't yet mastered swimming can still enjoy it. The chairs near the pool fill up quickly in the summer, so bring your own chair or a blanket. There are trees for shade located in the pool area as well. The concession stand has a decent selection of not-overpriced concession style food and treats.

An OK Pool There…read morereally aren't many options for pools in Crozet, so as far as Crozet is concerned, there isn't much better than this. However, when compared to other pools, this one is about as mediocre as one can get. Lacking a deep end or interesting structure, the best part about this pool is its one mushroom spray structure. This structure is always crowded with families because after all, it's the only mushroom in the pool. The lap lanes take up much of the rest of the pool. Price for admission to this lackluster aquatic center is $10 a person, which isn't terrible until you consider what little you're getting for the price you pay. It's nothing offensively bad, it's just kind of.... meh. I don't typically use that word in any of my reviews, but it's time to call a spade a spade.
