Just had my first haircut from Candice, and I love it. She was able to take my 10 pictures and create something that looked like all of them but me. And she made bangs work with my widow's peak, which I was afraid of. I got a same-day appointment no problem, but I like Candice so much that I booked my next trim already, and I'm thinking about going sooner for some highlights. I don't usually let people color my hair. It's PB but parking wasn't bad. They have parking in the back but I couldn't get down the alley. Aveda salons are the best. Loved my scalp massage, face wash/scrub (like a lil facial) during my shampoo, and complimentary make up touch up at the end. The girl who did my make up did a good job too, played a little but tried to stick to what I like. They did offer product and extra services, but I declined and no one minded. I bought some make up even though I hadn't planned on it, but because I really liked it not because of pressure. I understand being offered, and appreciate when a simple "no" is enough. Now that she mentioned it though, my ends are feeling dry and now I think maybe I did want a conditioning treatment... For $40 I thought the shampoo/cut/blowout was a really good value. Amy is amazing! She knows just how to color my hair so it doesn't show too much growth. I just moved to Denver and am waiting until I return for the holidays to have her color it again. She is super sweet and does just what you ask, nothing more or less. She spends time but knows how to get it done quickly. I also really liked how she gave me a hand massage while I was under the dryer. Dude, how much do I love the beach? I was in San Diego for a conference and had an afternoon to kill. After walking by the bay and enjoying the weather, I conceded that my hair might need a little help. I'd researched Aveda shops prior to my trip, so I headed on to Split Ends. Why can't they be in Chicago? They were fabulous!!! I got a great haircut for a great price ($40) which is waaaay cheaper than I pay here in the heartland. Not only that, I got a free face wash, tone, and cleanse while my hair was conditioning (like a nice little mini facial!) and after she painstakingly blew my hair into total silky, shiney fine-ness, another woman played with the cosmetics on me and I got a full makeup application too. I was smoking hot by the time I left and my only regret was that I can't possibly go to California for haircuts. Can I? read more

I went here today and had Lisandra. She was amazing. So friendly and happy. So let's start from the beginning: Called and got an appointment within an hour! Walked in and was offered tea and water, and got into a chair very quickly. Lisandra actually listened when I told her what I wanted (I work with children and wanted to keep it long enough to put up but I wanted layers). She gave me her opinion professionally and was very helpful. I got a massage which was wonderful. Then a rinse and a facial which felt gorgeous. Then she cut my hair. She constantly asked questions about how I wear my hair and products I use/have so she didn't do anything I couldn't at home. I read on here before that they try to sell you on products. OK, maybe they do but it's an AVEDA salon. It's their job to sell you. Get over it. The products are great. If you dont want to buy anything just say "I'm not interested in buying anything today." and they'll leave you alone. Blow dry with style after the cut was amazing as well. Finally because it's Aveda they have make-up too so I got a touch up (I needed it after the wonderful facial) and was out of there in no time. (around an hour for the whole she-bang). Bottom line: I love my hair cut, and had a great experience. Try it. For what I got, it was only around $40 plus $18 for the hair product I bought. Under $60 is a bargain. I stopped in off the street for a much needed hair cut. The staff was incredibly professional and friendly. I was able to get in with only a 5 minute wait which was a plus. I got talked into some kind of glossing and ended up paying $115 for a trim! However all the little extras were nice (free eyebrow wax, neck massage). My hair is naturally wavy and that's how I wear it. The stylist turned me around in the chair to dry me so I couldn't see the cut. Of course it looked beautiful after a blow out, but this isn't how I wear my hair. I'm not sure why stylists must always dry my hair stick straight as it doesn't show how the cut will lay on a normal day. I got home and was bummed that I had no layers in the top part of my hair and extreme layering at the middle and bottom. I looked like a mushroom. One should blend in a few layers to connect the top with the rest of the hair. It seemed the cut was very basic and didn't take into consideration how I styled my hair or it would have shown the obvious errors. It was a bit of a rushed job in my opinion, with no cross check. Especially for $115. After I went back for a correction the stylist did what she should have done the first time which was to go back thru her work to see if the cut laid properly. I was satisfied with the cut. February 2014 - Went in a 2nd time, same stylist and my hair got butchered! Had to pay $100 to get it fixed by taking off 4 inches :-( Never again! read more

I just had my hair highlighted by Ashley and it was the best experience I've ever had in a salon! She is so kind and really listened to what I wanted. Ashely did a full highlight and a root lightener. I'm always so nervous getting my hair done because it's always been inconsistent with other stylists but I walked out with exactly what I wanted! I came in with roots that were pretty dark and dark hair underneath that most stylists are too lazy to highlight even when I ask for a FULL highlight...(I do have ALOT of hair). But today I walked out with a full head of blonde hair! Finally someone who knows what they're doing! This place is awesome...they start with a neck and shoulder massage, then a hand massage and then a cleansing facial when you're being rinsed! I've definitely found my new favorite salon and stylist! If you're wondering I paid $200 for highlight, root brightener, moisturizer treatment plus tip. A little more than what I've paid in the past but worth every penny! Candice was the first stylist I trusted with my tresses after I moved to San Diego. She's friendly and knowledgeable, and gave me a trendy, cute cut (and wash/style) for only $40. I have fine, blond hair that dips a few inches past my shoulders, and usually when I leave a salon, the styling doesn't look that good -- it usually looks too flat or stringy. Well, Candice blew me away in that respect -- she gave my hair tons of volume, AND took the time to show me, step by step, how she styled my hair as she did it so that I could replicate the look. Their stylists do try to sell you products (makeup, treatments, other services), and give you a free facial and makeup application. I did end up getting some sort of moisturizing (I think?) treatment for an extra $25, which was TOTALLY worth it, and I would go back just to have that treatment applied. Its effects lasted a very long time -- it was much easier to comb through my wet, tangly hair for at least two months after I had the treatment. The only thing I would have changed was that my top layers were a little too short for my liking, which I didn't realize until later, when I put it in dual French braids, and the bottoms looked a little thinned out. But I probably could have better clarified the length I wanted my layers. I would definitely go back to Candice, though, and tell her longer layers next time. Also if you're a first-time customer, if you refer someone for a haircut and they go within the next month and turn in the card you're given, you get a free cut. Sweet! Edit: I went back to Candice for highlights and a cut. I liked the cut better the second time around, and LOVE the highlights/lowlights. They're gorgeous! She showed me the colors and let me choose them before she applied them. My style has body and depth. They DO try to sell you products here at the end of every visit, though (which I don't mind buying, provided I can sample them for a little while before making an investment in a $20 or $30 hair product). She gave me a hand massage while I was waiting for the color to set -- soooo relaxing! I did have a little bit of a hard time using my free haircut from referring someone -- it apparently wasn't in their computer system, but had confirmed that I had one coming when I called to make the appointment. Also, apparently the haircut/wash/style was going to cost $45 this time -- not sure if her prices went up or what. All in all, I am really happy with my hair. read more

THEY'VE REOPENED!!! This review is long, long overdue! I was able to get my hair done again for the first time in months (due to Covid) and am so grateful to Cyndi for weathering this quarantine shut down and adapting so dramatically for their reopen. This shut down really highlighted how much Cyndi cares about her customers! She reached out throughout quarantine multiple times and texted straight away when they had their reopening plan in place. She even squeezed me in and stayed late on their first day reopen! The staff are clearly taking so much care to protect their customers and theirselves, with temperature checks at the door and sanitizing constantly throughout the service. Cyndi had 3 different types of masks on while she did my hair! They're obviously taking health precautions very seriously. I've been getting my hair done by Cyndi for almost four years now. She can do it all. Cyndi's fixed horrible dye jobs (from a different salon!), taken me from brown to platinum to purple and back again, cut awesome pixies and faux hawks, and helped me grow out my hair and get through the awkward phase two different times. She's the only person I trust now with my hair. This quarantine definitely made me realize how grateful I am to Split Ends and Cyndi for always taking care of my hair! For the longest time I haven't bothered to style my hair. I just grew it out and let it air-dry. But I realized that I could benefit from a change and a good style, so I went to Split Ends. First of all, they give you a make up touch up for free, and also a scalp massage before your cut. Both are nice touches that put this place above the rest. Amy was great. I told her that I didn't know what I wanted but that I wanted a style, and she did a wonderful job at giving my hair a makeover. I loved my style and now I style my hair every day. She was patient with me when I asked her how to re-create it, and she was so friendly and helpful. It's worth the extra money to go here instead of supercuts! haha :) read more

I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I started going here a few years back when I moved to PB. It seemed like a cool, hip salon, right on Garnet. I liked my first stylist a lot. I have longer hair so I didn't come that often, maybe every 4-5 months. Anyway, one time when I called to book an appointment with my preferred stylist, the person on the phone was utterly rude when she told me "Yeah, she no longer works here and hasn't for like a year!" Ummm, yeah, actually I'd been to see her a few months before, so I knew she was wrong and just having a tude. Since the location was convenient, I decided to try a couple of other stylists, but never really felt comfortable or clicked with anyone. The place is small and a bit uptight. In my opinion, you gotta be a way better salon to have some of the attitudes the girls there were sporting. Also, I hate places that do a hard sell of their products. This place does that with everything. Would you like your hair conditioned after we wash it? Of course! Do I want to pay $20+ extra for that service? No, thanks. Not to mention their make-up. Every single time, they'd ask if I wanted to be made up that day. Enough. Put a note in my file that I'm not interested or something. Just stop trying to sell me your shit. If you do a good job on my hair and I want to buy the same products you used, I'll ask. Again, I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. This was my second time at split ends and I love it. I went to Candice based on all of the yelp reviews and everyone is right... She is great! First time she trimmed my hair which is pretty basic but we talked about some color options I wanted to do. So this second time she dyed it a fun bright red and put a few lighter red highlights in the front. It looks great and she was really fast (I was in a hurry). She is good with layers and bangs, my hair looks so much better. Oh, and she is also really sweet and energetic, a fun person to talk to. Thanks Candice, I will be back for sure. I was recommended by my grad school roommate to check out Split Ends (I have no idea how she found out about the place - I'm just an unquestioning follower like that.). The staff is awesome - my ex-boyfriend and I both have been going there for years since. The haircuts are reasonably priced, and Cindy is great (less the one time she turned me blonde, but that was partially my own fault for telling her to go "more lighter".). They do waxing in addition to haircuts. I've always walked out of Split Ends with fantastic hair and perfectly shaped and waxed eyebrows. Cindy remembers her clients. She remembers me and I'm only able to go there once every 6 months! She knows what you did last (and not just because "it has grown out"). She likes to know what is happening and she can remember the little details. It makes me happy going somewhere where the same person is there to do "that think they do" as opposed to finding my way to Supercuts and having a new stylist each time - one who has a completely different haircutting philosophy than the last one. I have had only 5 people touch my hair in that time. I was converted to Aveda 4 years ago thanks to my good friend who went to their school. So... I needed a hair cut really bad and damage control for a cut that was all over the place and went hunting. As soon as I saw that Split Ends was an Aveda salon I made the decision to give them a try. Ah-maze-ing!!! My hair hasnt been this nice in 4 years since my friend moved. They were super friendly. I had no wait time for my appointment even though I was a little early (hair jitters). Candice was my stylist. and she was amazing!!! Its the only word to describe it. I only came in originally to fix my layers and bangs which were longer on the one side :'( and she totally fixed it just the way I wanted and actually took the time to go through and show me they were even. Then she suggested that I should get color because the color I had was making my hair look thin and scraggly at the ends. I bit. She made it dark and now my hair looks thick and full. Beautiful color that she came up with as well. On top of all this, I received a massage for my scalp and shoulders, a mini facial (cleanse and exfoliate) and a hand massage. But, oh, was I happily surprised when I heard that their products have gotten PETA-awards several times, and they use recycled plastic for their packing (and much more)! I can't say enough wonderful things about this salon. In true aveda form you are pampered to the EXTREME. Scalp and neck massage, awesome shampoo and blow dry, products phenomenal as always, hand massage, and flat out amazing hair. Both stylists listened to our requests and delivered. My hair was so out of shape and heavy, Cindy kept my length as requested, cut layers and took a lot of bulk out of my hair. It feels weightless and beautiful. She also did an amazing job on my mom's highlights and gave her some tips on starting to grow her hair out. I have gone to Split Ends Salon twice. Once, a year ago, where my experience was not the best but it was okay. Then I went yesterday and had the worst experience I have ever had getting my hair cut. First I will stat out with that they were soooo pushy for me to buy stuff! They were making me feel awful as they pushed me to get: my hair dyed, my eyebrows dyed, either one of their two hair masks, AND a body wave for my hair. I mentioned a little interest in the shampoo's, but said I was moving soon and was going to buy it when I move (up in Washington) and they said That they would really prefer for me to buy it at their salon because they credit for these classes that they need to take, which are expensive. I was shocked to be treated like this. My boyfriend and I have been looking at new cars lately, and these woman were more pushey then any of the car salesmen I have been meeting with! I go to the salon to relax, and got the exact opposite. The girl who did my hair had me sit and wait for 5 minutes well she chatted with the receptionist and then barely shook my hand and said hi. I told her I liked my hair exactly the way it was, I just wanted everything (bangs, layers, hair) to be about 3 to 4 inches shorter, and to not really change anything. Now, I have very little layers in my hair, and they aren't the same distance as it was from the full length of my hair. I had bangs that swoop to the side, and when she asked if she could cut on the other side just a bit, and promised it would be longer on that side, I said sure. Now I have this awkward piece of hair that is cut even shorter then my bangs located on the other side of my bangs that will take FOREVER to grow out. The only pro I have is that its an Aveda Salon, and that they use really great products. read more

For starters, they offer hot tea while waiting and a hand massage if the wait is too long. Split Ends Hair Salon is my new hair salon. I got my hair done there twice now, and I really like Cassie, my stylist. She is friendly, knowledgeable and skilled with both cut and color, and I can only recommend her. If you need to get cut and color done, most salons have you see two stylists, but I like that at Splits Ends only one person takes care of me from beginning to finish and is proud of the end result. I like Aveda salons and products, their complimentary scalp and hand massage while you wait for color processing etc and their signature hot tea. If you want to make use of the waiting time even more, they also do eye brow shaping, facials etc...It does get pricey though. The only thing that irks me, but is normal for every salon is that it takes soooooo long. I really think an overall color and cut should be done within 2 hours. My last two visits lasted 2.5 hours, even though both times Cassie got helped by assistants and I was literally double-teamed. Splits Ends Hair Salon is a friendly, clean and professional salon, yes, it's expensive, but the service is good, Cassie is a gem, and I will be going back there... read more

Candice is AMAZING...at least what she does to my hair is! She does an awesome job with blonde highlights and subtle low-lights. I used to go to the Robert Cromeans Salon downtown and saw Chris. He was great but way over priced. Candice does a better job at half the price. A two color partial highlight and cut is about $125. Candice is great at suggesting products but never pushy (I've only bought one product and I love it). The hand/arm massage makes it a treat to go. Seriously, she's good. Yesterday I took off from my house with my spare keys which only have one key to the front metal screen door and not the main door. I asked my roommate to please let Charo (my other roommate) know not to lock the wooden door because I wouldn't be able to get in. I guess she did not get the memo because when I got back at 11pm, the door was lock and no one answer the door! So I drove my ass back to National City from OB and stayed the night at my parents. This morning when I went again, there was no one to be found! My hair was curlier and greasier than a JBX fry! The service was great! My stylist massaged my hair with some oils, then she washed it (which I really, really needed!) and cut it exactly how I wanted it... ONLY THE TIPS PLEASE! She also blow dried it and made it look gorgeous! I'm so satisfied with the haircut that I will be going there again! Candice definitely made me feel pampered and relaxed after a stressful day of work. She was so easy to chat with throughout the whole experience. She also gave me a fabulous hand massage while my hair was "cooking." For the first time in a while, my hair doesn't look like crap. On a recommendation from one of my best girlfriends, I decided to give Cyndi a shot at my hair. And you know your previous haircut sucked when the stylist asks "now how long has it been since you had your hair cut?" and when you tell her "three weeks" she says "really?" Cyndi razored, tapered, layered my hair into a whole new, less bohemian, less sit smoking pot around the campfire in socks and Birkenstocks. See, when my hair gets long there's no style to it... just hippie. That's it. This is also an Aveda concept salon, which means that all of the products they use on your hair are super-infused with everything herbal, and they keep offering you tea and icy-cold bottled water and give you massages, etc. etc. It's great, just make sure you've got plenty of time when you go there. Example: My appointment was at 4:15 and I didn't leave there until almost 7:00. Pampered the entire time, of course, so I'm not complaining. read more

I've been to this salon 3 times. I loved what the stylist did the first 2 times (not to mention she was super friendly and knows when to stop small talking and let you relax) but after getting a gift certificate to Travis Parker I thought I'd give it a try...and I wish I didn't. I like my hair to be super blond and always tell them not natural looking, but she made it, yep, natural looking. Anyways, this is about Split Ends...so I went back and asked her if she could fix it. It fell short by a long shot, instead of dyeing my roots, she highlighted them and the roots of my low lights were 10 times darker than the rest?? I'm assuming she was just having a bad day and I would go back if the price was right, but it's not. I guess my main problem with this salon is the hidden charges, I was charged $20 for 3 squirts of "color prepping" spray and around $35 for the "root boost", which would all be ok if they told you beforehand it was extra. My last visit I tried to keep the bill under $200 (for a full highlight and cut) so I asked to skip the extras and then presented my $20 coupon...total-$190. How that works out, I have no clue. I would recommend this place if you have the money for the unnecessary's. It's a hit or miss with the end result. So here I am, 4 years after moving to SD, looking for another stylist, which to me is worse than looking for an OBGYN. read more

I'm not a big salon gal if ya know what I mean. But these people always make me feel like I am! I walk in, am greeted with some of the most delicious herbal tea I've ever had in a cute little red cup, sit down in in front of the mirror to start with a scalp massage, head over to the washing station where I get a warm rag and some awesome lotion for my face, chat with a competent and friendly staff member throughout the cut, and barely have to wait while my hair is blow-dried because other staff will come and use an extra dryer to help out if they don't have any clients. AFTER I pay (so clearly not looking for more tips) they offer me a "touch up" on my make-up, do a great job and don't push any of the damn products on me (which I ended up buying anyway because they looked great). I've been there 4 times and never have had the same beautician (like I said, not really a salon girl, I don't really care who does it..) and I am always pleased the with results. read more
