We stopped for a late dinner and were expecting a bar food quality (which is usually bad in USA). I started with some fresh oyster and they were delicious especially those from Eel lake... I had after the Ribeye steak and my friend had fish and chips. The steak was absolutely delicious and tasty, well cooked medium rare as I wanted.. the fish was so fresh and very flavorful! We both enjoyed our meal while sipping so le local Tidal bay white wine and listening to live music!

The delectable veggie burger. Also love their mimosas!

Oh my goodness. I've found my new weekend local. The Spitfire Arms is a lovely British-themed pub in downtown Windsor. It has wall-to-wall war history and artifacts, as well as a lovely outdoor patio. The food is the best kind of pub food - consistently well prepared, large portions, well-executed, piping hot and tasty, tasty, tasty. Great selection of options for vegetarians. Some of my favourites are the black bean and corn veggie burger, the mediteranean grilled cheese sandwich (it's loaded with veg!), seasonal squash soup, the mac and cheese and breaded pickles. Now I'm hungry again..... Make it a day out! Windsor is juat about the sweetest little town in Nova Scotia with lots of country shops, farm fresh treats and artists.

Lovely Spring dinner. The place was redone exactly as before the fire.We had beers, a reuben, scallops and rich peanut butter pie. Delishious. The fire destroyed everything . Food very good. Staff very friendly.

She was laughing at the multiple old men at the bar. When we finally got her attention her words were 'you look confused' and I was - there was no sign about where to sit. Once seated my boyfriend got the engine room burger and ceaser salad - the lettuce on the bun was literally browning. I got the turkey dinner daily special and aside from the black hair on top of my turkey, it was dry and has absolutely no flavour. We waited a really long time for a refill. The atmosphere was grungy and definitely didn't feel welcoming. The most attention we received was from the multiple flies around us and our food. I wouldn't recommend this place and definitely won't be back.

But inside it's a largeish, busy pub with a dance floor, sports on the TVs, and - probably - lots of busy locals enjoying themselves. It's on the country pub side of things, with lots of wood, neon beer signs, that sort of thing. But the menu is big. My caesar salad was good; my chicken wings (they were on special) were just OK, a little on the thin side. Fast, efficient service. Seems full of friendly locals.

When I was in town for a blood donation, I decided to visit Belly Up BBQ as a way to both replenish…read moremy iron levels and try a new-to-me restaurant. There was a small surge of BBQ places in Halifax in the 2010s, and while that eventually died down, it's good to see the trend spread elsewhere to add new kinds of cuisine to other areas of the province. The interior is spacious, with a bar at one end, a section with several booths, and even more tables beyond that. The décor isn't over-the-top with southern US kitsch like many barbecue joints and could easily pass for a regular bar and grill. Normally when I try a BBQ place for a first time, I go all-in on a sampler platter to try as many of the smoked meats as possible. Alas, Belly Up is the only BBQ place that I've been to that doesn't have this option. As a result, I went with the beef brisket platter since that's more unique to Belly Up, and things like ribs and pulled pork can be found at many restaurants these days. It wasn't too too busy when I arrived and most people were already eating, so my food arrived in quick order. The brisket came as two long, thick slices, and the broad layer of fat on top told me I was getting the fatty end of the brisket. There was a bit of a smoke ring around the edges, although I didn't find that it had a prominently smoky flavour. It was spot-on for tenderness though - the meat broke apart easily, but didn't crumble from being overcooked, and each bite was tender and juicy. You get a choice of a few different sauces with your meat (which is served entirely on the side) and the chipotle sauce was savoury and not *too* sweet, but again, I'd prefer a heavier level of smokiness from the namesake pepper. You get two different sides with each entrée, so again I went with some of the more unique options - the corn fritters and the apple coleslaw. The corn fritters were very well executed - crisp on the outside, fluffy and moist on the inside, and with a hint of sweetness. The ginger and jalapeno honey sauce that came with them was also a surprise hit, with a good balance of sweetness and subtle layer of heat. I generally prefer a vinegar-based dressing for my coleslaw to cut through the rich dishes that it's often paired with, but I still enjoyed Belly Up's apple slaw. The additional crunch and sweetness of the julienned apples brought some complexity to what is often the most forgettable part of a meal, and honestly it's just nice to see a slaw that's done in-house instead of coming out of a five-gallon bucket from Sysco. Service was friendly and attentive throughout my meal. There's definitely some tweaks that Belly Up could do to polish their BBQ game, but it's a still a solid option for something different in the food scene in Truro.

We've been looking forward to eating here for some…read moretime so we invited the new neighbours for dinner before a show, but we definitely won't be back. We arrived before the supper rush and while it was busy, the place was not full by any means with multiple empty tables. We sat up in 'The Boat' which is right next to the bar which is an awkward step up but we weren't offered one of the empty tables so we figured it out even though it wasn't conducive to having a conversation with two other people. The server who gave us menus was friendly but failed to bother to bring any water the entire time we sat there (nearly an hour). The first round of drinks showed up fairly promptly and she took our food order right after that. We opted not to get appetizers because we didn't want to eat too much before our show, but had we known how long we'd have to wait, we would have gotten something. We couldn't even order something to share between the four of us because 'The Boat' is two separate tables. We chatted as we waited for our drinks that we finished and waited some more for someone to bring food. After the last drinks were empty for at least 10 minutes, our server came back to ask if we wanted another round. Seeing as we didn't have food yet (we'd already been waiting 30 minutes), I opted out while the three others ordered one. At this point, I wasn't willing to spend more money for poor service and a long wait. We watched as a large group that clearly arrived long before us, finally got their food after 35 minutes of us having put in our order. A couple across from us showed up at least 20 minutes after us, got drinks, food and the bill before we were even offered a second drink or told about where our food was. During the time, we watched as other patrons came in, were served their food and left before our food even arrived. After about 40 minutes, our server came around and said 'it shouldn't be much longer, we're training kitchen staff so it's taking a little longer'. Not our problem, and clearly not true seeing as so many others who arrived after us were getting their food. The entire time we were waiting, servers stood around the register talking and not really checking on tables. By this point, people kept rolling in, the place got busy and we still didn't have our food 45 minutes after ordering. When our orders finally showed up after 53 minutes of being placed, mine wasn't what I ordered. I asked for a pan fried fish burger and got pan fried fish. The server was adamant that's what I ordered and proceeded to tell me that 'the only difference is the bun and veggies, otherwise it's the same fish'. I was quite surprised at the comment rather than offering to make it right. Given we had a waited nearly an hour for our food by this point, I sucked it up and just ate what I got. Service here is definitely lacking and it's clear staff doesn't have the skills required to deal with people. While the food was alright, the sides looked like they were scraped off of other peoples' plates and just thrown onto ours. No one bothered to check on us or apologize. When the bill arrived, I noticed $5.50 taken off and no explanation. I begrudgingly paid the nearly $70 bill for the two of us and decided we wouldn't be back again!

The service is usually a major miss here but we opted for the patio on a beautiful sunny day. The server didn't even offer to bring water when she took our order but the drinks arrived fairly quickly, as did the food. The fish and chips is actually an embarrassment to the entire Atlantic region. Soggy, crusty and nearly black from the deep fryer. You will get a tiny piece that looks like it had heart disease before it ended up on your plate. I've never eaten fish where I have a leftover cup of tartar sauce, but this was it. The fries looked old and like someone grabbed them off a plate of leftovers. While this is definitely the best patio in the Valley, it is not worth eating here. Basically it's a brew pub located inside of an old church. Very cool! The restaurant itself is quite spacious, as they have two sections to sit inside. They also have an adjacent beer market and outdoor patio seating. For food, they have a menu that is typical of pub fare. I ordered the fish & chips (1 piece of haddock) for $16, as the hostess said it was one of the more popular dishes. I've had my fair share of fish & chips while in Canada, and I'd have to say that this ranks as one of the better ones. The haddock tasted very fresh and it's a nice, thick piece. The batter was on the lighter side, which I appreciated. The tartar sauce was yummy and the fries were legit, but the slaw was more of an Asian slaw as opposed to a coleslaw, and I didn't care for that. Hubby ordered the Porter Bacon & Cheddar Burger and enjoyed it. We both split a cup of their Matriarch's Chowder for $9, and it came with a house made mini pretzel. Both were delish! They have a nice variety of beers, and I chose the 15 oz "Married to the Sea" for $6.96, which is a delicious German Porter. It had strong notes of coffee, which I liked. Hubby got an IPA and said it was strong and bitter, just the way he likes it. Service was fast and friendly. Although it was crowded, they were able to get a lot of people in and out of the restaurant in a timely manner. I'd highly recommend this fun brew pub if you happen to be in Annapolis!
