We arrived in Friedrichshafen this afternoon on the second day of our trip to Germany. Day 1 we were jet-lagged and just ate at the first place we could find in Mainz, so we wanted to experience authentic German cuisine. Armed with 12 days of Duolingo, we peeked in the door of SpitalKeller. It looked inviting with classic German architecture, so we went in. The help were friendly, made sense of our poor German, and even helped us out by throwing in English words for us.
The portions were ample. I had pork medallions over spaetzle, which came in a large iron skillet and included three large medallions. They were very tasty and cooked to perfection.
My wife and son had pork schnitzel with spaetzle. They agreed that the food was very good and the portions were large.
We enjoyed a Weis-Gold and a Pilsner with it, and they appeared to have a large wine menu and cocktails.
The bill was very reasonable - we were extremely surprised.
Give this place a try. It was great! read more
