For a lunch visit on a Tuesday. Restaurant is clean and…read moreslightly dark inside, but plenty of covered outside tables are available if the weather cooperates. It is moderately loud, but not so much that a good conversation is difficult (4/5) I was immediately seated, having arrived earlier than my lunch appointment, but I was also given a menu and served a drink (water with lemon) right away, one even being brought for my fellow diner. No pressure to order, he arrived a few minutes later. The menu has a sprinkling of the expected Italian and Greek dinners in addition to the pizza choices. You have the standard gyro options, several parmigiana options, sandwiches, wings, burgers....and pizza. I decided to go with the obvious choice, the small House Special Pizza. Hamburger, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions and green peppers with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese - it is "what they do", right? And they do it for $14. The service was great (4/5), very attentive in detail and checking in on us. The restaurant started out slowly at 11:45, but business picked up such that by 12:30 it was relatively a full house, but tables were turning and service was moving steady in and out of the kitchen and clearing tables, etc. - smooth running operation. The pizza was okay. And I mean, just okay. It was not bad, but it was about like eating a Costco pizza slice or a QT pizza slice. Toppings were good with coverage. It was out in a quick enough fashion that I didn't notice - except it was also cold in the center. The bottom was crispy, but the inside and toppings needed more time in the oven. For example, you do want some of the pepperoni fat to render the grease into the pizza (not too much, but also not rendered at all is a negative). You want the cheese to be almost bubbly, not to burn the roof of your mouth, but not cool either. The dough was probably done through, but combined with the coolness of the other ingredients, it was difficult to tell if the lack of crisp texture was the combo of the cheese and dough being underdone or if the cheese was creating a doughy texture since it was barely warm? Either way, the pizza also could have used some more sauce, especially as the vehicle for the other flavors the sauce should bring. The crust flavor itself was good. It just felt like the entire pizza was undercooked and the flavors were underdeveloped. I was expecting more flavor from this ingredient combo. Maybe this sounds harsh, or picky, but it is the Pizza House and this is the House Special Pizza, so it's fair to judge objectively. If you want to compare to a higher pizza standard, check out Pizza Parcheggio, Little Italy in Mauldin, or Lily's Pizza just up the interstate on Pleasantburg and you will see another level difference. That being said, I did eat half today and saved the other half to put into my oven at home and heat up/cook some more which did help with some texture and temperature issues. The flavor still needs a plus up. This is not a reason to avoid Pizza House, just maybe ask for extra sauce and a longer cook when you order it and lets see what happens. That will be my next move if there is a return visit.

Both Kathy and the young man were friendly and very polite. They great customer Service, by being fast, accurate and looking neat (which I like when they are fixing my food). I liked seeing the young man wearing gloves while fixing my drink! The young man had a huge smile on his face the entire time, very friendly. I'd just left church and I wasn't feeling well so when I pulled up to the drive thru and told him I was glad they had a drive thru because I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to have to go inside. He very kindly told me that I didn't have to but that I did need to call my order in first. No big deal. I pulled off and called it in. I waited only a few minutes on my order. Although I have not eaten my sub yet I know it will be delicious because firehouse subs always are, no matter where you get them, but I appreciate when I get good customer service. That is very hard to come across these days and it stays with you long after the food (or whatever) is gone. Thank you, young man. See you soon FHS!
